I have been on weight losing regime for a long time now. I have cut back a lot on desi food , but I get that craving for some mirch masala , some snacking , some desserts .
So please share you recipes for low calorie desi goodies.

For a low-calorie and low-fat snack, I opt for Gujarati snacks like Idli and Dhokla. Both are steam cooked but don't lack in flavor at all. It's commonly available in Indian stores here in Toronto.
I don't think there is any desi dessert that is healthy if it's made the traditional way. I've a sweet tooth and I keep a box of dates (khajoor) in the fridge all the time. It satiates the craving of sweetness and is nutritious at the same time.

erm....muller's yogurt, some chana chat, dates, fruits, may b some cheese crisps...quavers they have 87 kcal...;)
may b make some chkn keema kebab...nd bake them or sometnhing....eat with a pita bread with those kebab along with salad nd chutney etc in it...yum yum abt 200 kcal in that...depend in the fillings etc
i basically eat everything and anything....just in small portions and drink water before hand... :)

CHEESE AND CRACKERS!!!
(You can have plain crackers - no fat, and low fat philadelphia, with a sprinkle of chilli powder, some chives, cucumber).
Channa chaat (none of the fried phulki's)
Beans cooked with very little oil and spices.
I love greek yoghurt, I add splenda and vanilla to it and have it with peaches, pineapples and grapes.

Maybe try substituting a few ingredients. A chana chaat is healthy because it contains chick peas (protein) and sometimes yogurt, which is also a good source of protein. Potatoes can be fattening, so substitute with sweet potatoes instead. Try sweet potato pakoray. Try baking/grilling things that are typically friend.
Fruit chaat
Make vegetable shami kababs........or make them from ground chick peas. Or from low fat meat like chicken or tuna.

Sugar free mithai is what we get for my dad who is off sugar and salt these days.
Sugar free does not necessarily mean low cal. :halo:
Splenda gives me headache:bummer:
Cabbage all the way. Cabbage is almost calorie.

cucumber with some chat masala on it
pop corns (without butter)
cabbage , carrots
corn (bhutta u can make it at home by boiling)

BBQ (tikkas etc.) are low-fat too
roasted black chickpeas as snacks
Nuts? (although I am not sure of their fat content)
try baking pakoray, if they turn out good, let us know too :D
fresh berries dipped in some balsamic vinegar for a few minutes and served with low-fat yogurt.. you can make yogurt ice-creams too at home..google for recipes
Cut peach or apple in halves, cook with fresh orange juice, dash of cinnamon powder and vanilla.. add a bit of honey if you like. juice will thicken up to form nice sauce..you can have it on it's own or with frozen yogurt or low-fat sugar free ice-cream..
