I need suggestions from other parents on which book series or V-Tech/Leapfrog laptops to use for pre-school teaching for a 2+ toddler.
Re: Suggest books/laptops for toddler
My son was given a V-Tech laptop when he turned 2 and he just loved it. Great alphabet discovery and matching games. Small screen, but it was enough for him.
He just turned 3 and was given another more advanced and flashy laptop. This time the Nitro Jr. Notebook by V-Tech. It looks like a real laptop, but the screen itself is actually small. If you can get over that (toddlers can get over whereas the parents have an issue with it), this is a good one.
Re: Suggest books/laptops for toddler
Thanks Mehnaz. I am looking at Vtech and Leapfrog's sites for the products. I will check out Babies R Us and Chapters for books as well.
Would you recommend any specific store or site for these stuff?
How is the little one? How many hours you allow him to watch TV?
Re: Suggest books/laptops for toddler
He's doing good. Well he's at the daycare during the weekdays so there is no t.v. When he comes home, he is not really interested in watching t.v.
These days, he does like to have it on (Treehouse), but he doesn't actually sit and watch it. He is busy playing with his toys. I do let him watch Sesame Street/Elmo and Max and Ruby cause he enjoys that. As long as he is busy doing other things, I don't mind letting him keep the t.v. on in the background cause I know he's not actually watching it. After 8:00 p.m., everything goes off.
I rarely watch t.v. myself, so that helps.
You should check out Toys R' Us and Wal-Mart. If you want to read parent reviews, then check out amazon.ca and the Toys R Us website.
Re: Suggest books/laptops for toddler
@ Mehnaz: My 2 y/o nephew pretty much refuses to learn the numbers. He knows the alphabets by heart (A-Z) but as far as the numbers are concerned he only knows 1-10... and even then he sometimes messes the sequence up. We have been trying really hard to get him to learn up to at least 20, but haven't been able to do so because of his lack of interest. (It took him only about a week to learn the alphabets, so it isn't that he's a slow learner)... What we have noticed is that he learns really quickly (m'A) when things are taught to him in the form of a song/rhyme... so we're thinking that maybe if we come up with a really fun/catchy rhyme to teach him the numbers, it'll be easier to get him involved. Here's the problem though, we have been trying to find a really good numbers-song but haven't been able to. Would you happen to know of any good ones (rhymes/songs/games)?
Re: Suggest books/laptops for toddler
@ OP: sorry for derailing the thread. :-(
Re: Suggest books/laptops for toddler
Afsoon, my son knows his numbers 1-20 which he learned early on.
There is this one ‘raga’ from Sesame Street where they count 1-20. I learned it and sing it to him all the time. Do the musical sound effects too (boom boom boom). Give it a shot.
Here it is:
It’s quite good that your nephew knows 1-10 at the age of 2. The rest will come in time. You should look into getting those wooden peg puzzles for numbers 1-20. That helped my son with his numbers too.
Re: Suggest books/laptops for toddler
Thank you so much for the suggestions. Will definitely look into them! :-)
