Suggest a good mask for

acne-prone often congested skin please, will you? Sometimes, my face is all cleared up and then a couple of weeks later, pores get enlarged, skin feels all congested and acne flares up..

Is there any mask that removes all the skin impurities and refine it? I know that clay mask is the best for this type of skin but please do correct me if I’m wrong and suggest a face mask for such type of skin?

P.S. I saw a sulfur mask ( I think it was Murad’s) at sephora which was for blemish-prone skin…Has anyone heard of this before or tried it? It was around $40 bucks and I don’t wanna spend that much money on a mask unless it’s too damn good.

Thanks a bunch!

Neutrogena, deep cleansing mask

Avons sea-mineral pore-fection mask

Re: Suggest a good mask for

i LOVE DDF sulfur mask (costs $35 but it lasts forever plus it works) You can use it as a spot treatment on breakouts and they disappear faster. For acne-prone skin you can also try using natural/homemade masks (yogurt mask or turmeric) They both work to soothe redness in the skin. Turmeric reduces inflammation, pigmentation and the lactic acid in yogurt works like a natural peel.

Re: Suggest a good mask for

hey i agree with gina use neutrogena but use rose water everyday and solve the root prob of ur acne it could be ur not so proper digestive system drink more liquids stay away from sodas n things like tht

Acne shud be treated, that's the only way u'll avoid any scars :)

^^Yes but the question is how it should and could be treated? I've dealt with severe acne for a few years, have tried every product, treatment, prescription medicine that is currently available claiming it treats acne but haven't got ANY permanent results...I've observed the pattern of my flare-ups and they are actually hormone-driven and there is hardly I or anybody can do to fix it...Come exam time and acne comes along...

Can you suggest something, Gina?

OK good! I am gonna give it a shot too...have read very good reviews about it...Thanks for your input, ShweetD!

Re: Suggest a good mask for

go to cvs, there is a company called queen helen...i dunno queen something. it's called mint julep mask. it's good and it's cheap, and it has sulfur too which is good for acne-prone skin

wishkamar, have u been to a derm? Consult a good derm he can either prescribe longterm antibiotics which are great! He/she wud be able to guide u better and figure out if u have a hormonal imbalace maybe? Once everything is ruled-out and u're on medication then work on the topical gels and creams. It's a waste of money to work on pimples and scars when u're acne keeps coming-back. Irradicate u're active acne first and then treat the over-the-skin issues :)

how acne can be treated?

Re: Suggest a good mask for

Sometimes there is no cure for acne. After seeing several derms and spending literally 1000s of dollars, i have stopped doing extensive stuff.

wishkamar, i really like this one mask and feel that it clears up congested skin. Sometimes the results are apparent after a few days. Try using Aztec clay with apple cider vinegar as a mask and follow the directions on the jar of clay. Do this every day or every other day for a little bit. Its a bit drying for some ppl but my skin is oily so i can handle it. I now use it once a week and follow up with Jan Marini enzyme mask and my skin has never been better except when i am on meds etc.

If you can please try it. Its so cheap (about 10 dollars for the clay plus vinegar) that if it doesnt work out, you arent left with a hole in your pocket. I am in the US and i found it at Campbell's nutrition store. I am sure stores like Whole Foods might have it too.

Usually the issue is hormonal..sumtimes it's treated with antibiotics sumtime Roaccutane if it's severe.. but acne can be cured thru proper treatment. There are several over-the-counter meds to tackle acne as well such as retin A, benzomic, skinoren etc! Work on u're acne, then the scarring.. no use of treating scars if u still break-out u'll have to start at square one again!

Re: Suggest a good mask for

Gina i hope there is a cure but derms have certainly told me to my face (no pun intended) there is nothing they can do for me since even Accutane didnt work out either. And i am hesitant to take it now since i am married. Thankfully mine isnt that bad or anything so i can live with it. But if treatments only work till you use them, thats not a cure.

Accutane didn't work for me either and million thanks for your advice, Ira :)

No over-the counter works for me permanently, Gina…They seem to alleviate the problem for a couple of weeks and then it seems as if my skin develops an immune to that product/treatment…I’d keep applying it and follow the direction very closely but it’s futile :frowning:

After having been put on Accutane, Tetraacyclin and Mynocyclin, my doctor suggested me to go on this antibiotic as the last resource and he gave me a brochure about the antibiotic which entailed about a million side-affects/after-affects…I decided to not take it :hinna:

And while I’m here, I have another thing to ask you, Gina

Because of having been put on those antibiotics which basically did nothing, my skin has become very, very sensitive…My face is almost always red like a tomato which I feel looks hideous…Can you PLEASE suggest something that can help with redness?

ThankoOo :cheegum:

Ira, sumtime's roaccutane alone isn't effective, but acne is 100% cureable :) It's just the right combination of drugs and topical medicine. The first issue to tackle is hormonal.. then take it from there!

If u still have acne, try a session os salicylic peel.. that combats acne by penetrating under-the-skin. Wishkamar, use products made for sensitive skin, stay away from products with alcohol.. spray chilled rosewater several times a day on u're face..

Re: Suggest a good mask for

Thanks Gina. I have had peels done regularly but they did nothing to solve the problem either. My skin would look great for a couple of days and then start breaking out again. But i love how peels can take care of the scars. I think in our case acne is inherited. My chacha had it really really bad. None of his kids have it it but both my siblings and i do. Wierd how things work out! I am ok with my acne now, Alhamdulillah its in control for the most part during my pregnancy even though i get an occasional pimple. InshaAllah it will stay that way.

Re: Suggest a good mask for

If its just the hormonal flare up then the best thing is to leave it and it'll settle down in a week. if you touch it or layer it with products you are probably going to end up causing it to become worse.

Depending on how old you are and what condition your skin is and what results you are after you can choose whatever mask you want.

I have 3 basic ones

Honey Mask to provide with extra moisturizing and nourtishment, it leaves the skin glowing

Cucumber mask for hot days when I need my skin to relax, breathe and cool down

Mud mask after doing facials

Wishkamar, if u're cheeks turn really red then calamine lotion with help soothe them and so will aloe vera gel ( I keep mine in the fridge) Please see u're derm and ask him for anti-bio's it'll prolly be a 6-8 months course. If it's an occasional pimple before u're periods, just dab tea tree oil. If it flares-up often have it treated!

For the red/irritated skin a cucumber/aloe gel mask is ideal and so is a clay mask mixed with rosewater..
