Sugaring anyone?

Yea, I know, WTH?? Anyway it’s a technique like waxing, which you can make at home.

Recipe(haha)
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup lemon juice

BAsically you’re supposed boil/simmer this unril it turns an amber color, let it cool, roll it into a ball, place on skin, and pull.

More info found **here](http://hairremoval.about.com/od/sugarwaxing/ss/sugar-hair-removal-recipe.htm). So tell me ladies, have you tried it? Is it better than waxing? Or do you steer clear of this stuff and use the good old razors and hair removal creams?**

Re: Sugaring anyone?

I had sugaring done a few years ago. It did not suit my skin. I ended up with brown marks all over which disappeared later. It is very popular in the Arab countries though.

i found it to be a very painful and lengthy procedure, and yes ^ your right, very much favoured in the Arab countrys'.

Much rather stick to waxing.

Re: Sugaring anyone?

So you don't need strips for sugaring? You just spread it on your skin and pull?

Re: Sugaring anyone?

^yes

ive tried it and i like it.. a little messy the first time though but you get used to it :)

Re: Sugaring anyone?

So whats the consistency like, is it thick (like atta) or liquidy?

*Apparently not as thick as atta but not watery, my guess was sorta like caramel(yum!!!!). *

So the people that have ad this done, would you recommend it for sensitive skined girls?

Re: Sugaring anyone?

Can you use it to wax eyebrows?

Re: Sugaring anyone?

^You can use it for any place on the body, even bikini line!

Re: Sugaring anyone?

I used to go to a salon when I was in Pakistan... where they used some soft-atta-like thing to wax and it definitely hurt less than the regular cold wax... was that this sugaring thing?

It was caramel colored and was kind of sticky... They would roll it like a ball and then put on my skin and then sorta spread it, pressing down...... I totally loved (as it hurt less) it and asked what it was but they refused to share the recipe or tell me what it was :(. They used some oil on their hands so it wouldn't stick to their hands.... and on my skin they would apply powder before starting off. Just want to know if thats what this sugaring is?

Also, if I prepare it... how long can I keep it? Is it supposed to be kept in the fridge or what?

Re: Sugaring anyone?

**Yup! That was sugaring! ******
Here the link for it.

**So it does hurt less than waxing? **

Re: Sugaring anyone?

Oh yes, if it was sugaring… for me, it definitely hurt less than waxing… or maybe I just went numb from the pain :cb:. I have sensitive skin, especially my back… it breaks out after waxing… but with sugaring it didn’t.

Thanks Ria for all the info

Re: Sugaring anyone?

^ No prob! I was looking at how to make wax at home and I came across this! I have really sensitive skin too so I want to know if it would help!

Re: Sugaring anyone?

yup, i have sensitive skin aswell and so far ive used it just on legs and its awesome. I tried underarms.. but i just didnt manage to do it lol .. really difficult to hold that area tight when doing it yourself..

I like sugaring/halawa.. it's easier to use than heating wax and using wax strips.

Re: Sugaring anyone?

That looks easy to do! And maybe pulling it IN the direction of hair growth causes less pain. I want to try it. It looks messy though.

Any tips from sugarers?

I tried to make that mixture once. Did not turn out well.

It should be a very light amber color.. if you drop a small amount into cold water it should form a soft ball.

I pour it in a heat-proof bowl and let it sit for a while and then stretch it till it's easy to work with. It's less messy than the regular wax that you have to heat-up and this doesn't need any strips of cloth either. You spread the halawa and pull against the grain of hair.

Make sure your skin is clean and dry..

Re: Sugaring anyone?

*^Against the grain of hair meaning like how they pull from the direction it grows or the other way? *

Re: Sugaring anyone?

but how long does this sugaring last? i would think it would get less sticky over time and you wouldn't be able to do both legs or other areas...?

Link that ria1328 posted says that you should put it on against the grain and take it off in the direction of the hair. I noticed because waxing is the other way.
