I have heard/seen many instances where suffering or tragedies brought people closer to whatever religon they had.
For me, it has been the total opposite. I grew up in a Muslim family. Fortunately, my life went very well but I saw a lot of suffering. And ofcourse the suffering just wasnt of pakistani muslims but of all different races/nationalities (dafur, palestinans, americans, isrealis etc).
That brought me to the realization of why is such suffering allowed by God? we can this is a “test” and rewards will be in he afterlife. By would God play such a cruel joke on people by putting them through these “tests”. Surely, there are better ways for God to test his loyalty. And then what about folks who havent suffered in this life, then God doesnt intend to reward them in afterlife?
I would be interested in hearing other peoples views on how can justify the suffering in this world.
First off, its not good to question God, to complain and moan is a sin. God is just and equal.

Better ways? You mean harsher ways? Would we survive?
Everyone is either suffering or has suffered, even prophets were tested and faced harsher difficulties than us.
...some dont necessary have to be tests by Allah...just dont start balming Allah for everything....tomorrow someone punch on your face so hard that your teath comes out will you start balming Allah for this....some acts Humans have proportional and direct impact on other humans...i.e Killing of 2000 people on 09/11 lead to death of hundreds of thousands in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Talking about sufferings n punishments n hard times and hence this question to God. I wonder when you see all the blessings you are enjoying, why you do not ask God why He is too kind to you ?
Quran says(not exact words and i can search for ayat if you wish)
any hardship that comes upon you is because of your own deeds(from Allah) and any good that you come across in your life is From Allah. so saying that how can Allah make ppl suffer so much is wrong. ANY suffering difficulties we have are because of our own deeds. so analyse your life and accept your mistakes do serious tawba. mend your ways and see your life will become easy inshallah. having total faith is the key.
and do not forget every moment of life is a test whether hard times or good times. whether u r rich or poor...you are blessed with children or are childless....ALL IS TEST. do not think abt only difficult times as test,
think of yourself as a SLAVE of Allah. now if you had a SLAVE that you owned what will be your expectations, TOTAL SUBMISSION. thats what Allah wants from us just put your head down submit yourself to ALLAH. obey Him. Obey HIM Obey HIM.

Justify!!!
The first thing God did when he created earth was take justice out of his dictionary... for a while. And earth moaned and wept and cried... but God didn't listen. I guess u should read some more scripts then u might understand SOME meaning of it all.

Strange that you say you have "seen" suffering but at the same time question how can suffering bring one closer to their religion.
Seeing does not count. Actually suffering is needed for most people.
Once the circumstances around you become such that you cannot change them or help the ones closest to you, you realize how arrogant you had been when you had it all, even though you lived your life thinking you are such a humble muslim.
Anyway .... please be careful when you post such title cause you do them at the risk of either doing shirk, or challenging the wisdom and maslehat of Allah Zaujal.
yes its a result of our deeds and yes its a test....do you realise it?if Allah cares then he puts u in suffering which is an awakening call from Allah that u shd mend your ways. if u do not suffer u shd be afraid that Allah may have stopped caring for u(not if u are following Allah's path).
quran says not to look at the wealth and abundance of rizq and children of non believers because this test is worse than the test of suffering. when u suffer u remember Allah and u might come back to the right path.
but with luxurious life ppl tend to think its bcz of their own intelligence cleverness etc. and they forget the creator.
Prophet Mohammad p.b.u.h sed to seek Allah's forgiveness 100 time a day . what about us. we shd rub our noses on ground and seek Allah's forgiveness if we want to have any hope for us.
^ right. well quite the opposite happens on earth. you see..a lot of bad people lead good lives (take pakistani people) and a lot of good people have ****ty lives (again take pakistani people). what test did they sign up for? what test are those malnaurished children in Africa going through?
This is an important subject especially for dawah:
Parameters
a) Every bad that befalls us is a result of our own actions and every good is from Him
b) We are tested with hardships to be patient and tested with ease to be gratituous
c) Any injustice in this world will be balanced in the Hereafter with the removal of punishments.
Constraints of Suffering
No soul is given a burden more than it can bear, therefore failing to be grateful when in ease, or patient when in hardship, or losing oneself to emotional denial or losing hope for the Hereafter is a burden that we impose on ourselves doing our ownselves an injustice.
Scope/Perspective
This life is only a flicker of the eye lid compared to the permanence of the Aakhira, any pain in the this world is minimal any pleasure in this world is minimal. Set sights for Jannah the maximum happiness and strive to avoid Jahunnum the maximum pain and torment. Pain and Pleasure in this world give us the impetus to move for the Hereafter - the carrot and the stick. Life is not a joke for this reason.
I feel life is like a test. Results will be declared on Day Of Judgement. Based on our performance we will be sorted out to heaven and hell. So we need to pass through both tough and easy times to get through this test, and the test in this life is like an atom infront of our reward.
may be it is part of test....see Allah sent his messangers through out the ages to remind us about that oath!!!! no matter which way u look at it we have NO CHOICE Allah has ALL power We are his creations his slaves...we pass test we get a reward beyond our imaginations too. when Allah showed Angel Gibrail heaven and hell. GIbrail said heaven is worth it if you are dragged on your face all ur life and hell is not worth it if you enjoy all pleasures of life.... so where will you run. better submit life is quiet short.it will be over soon.
