Suddenly MQM found itself fighting for survival

What happened in the supreme court, where learned judges clearly shocked to read JIT report, and asked AG about government action (which was none). The judges even hinted action taking in Wali Khan case, just to remind you that suing ZAB government, the government filed a reference with supreme court to disband NAP due to alleged anti National activites.

It was interesting response from Mustfa Kamal, where he side that Ajmal Pahari given statement to JIT under torture, on otherside he seems to be accepting that their workers did went to India but just save their lives during operation against MQM.

Another interesting thing while they have denied that any letter sent by AH to Tony Blair. Yet seems to defending it’s contents.

We are in interesting time.

Re: Suddenly MQM found itself fighting for survival

In reply Mustafa Kamal came out as the biggest Liar of Pakistan.
Zulfqar Mirza spoke one hundred truths in a day
In reply MK spoke two hunderd lis in a day. MQM is not a sole representative of Urdu Speaking Pakistanis.
Actually they have made the citizens of Karachi a hostage with the help of their armed persons.

Re: Suddenly MQM found itself fighting for survival

First of All i must make my position clear i have no sympathy with MQM (In fact i hate it), but we must need to be objective for discussion purpose.

Although i agree that MQM using terror method to maintain its dominance in Karachi, but this is not full story, even without the terror methods it is still a party which supported by big chunk of Mohajirs in Sind.

Without guns/ terror they might lose few close seats or their victory margins might be drastically lower but they would still managed to keep most of their seats.

On other side Lyari Ganges with support of PPP, and ANP terror which seen as Pashtoon or Blouch against Mohajirs, not only create insecurity in the streets of Karachi, but also directly plays in the hand of MQM as forcing Mohajirs to closer to MQM even more tightly considering so called "only protector of Mohajirs".

The supreme court wisely observed that nature of vigilance in Karachi is political rather then racial. That opens next phase of to examine the political players causing this.

I believe the way supreme court proceedings are going on, would certainly open door for MQM to declare as terrorist even could be disbanded. (It is not a simple thing though as, a new reference needed to file against MQM in supreme court and MQM would have full right defend itself, given weakness of Zardari government it hard to expect they would go for it).

But would it good for Karachi or Pakistan to disband MQM, a party which without doubt have large public support, thus creating another "Mukit Bahni"?

In my opinion the solution lies is instead of closing on political party or group, taking action against who ever individual caught involving (its alright prosecute even leadership if direct evidence found against them) without closing the party.

So next time any leader and worker would understand that there would be no impunity.

Re: Suddenly MQM found itself fighting for survival

Altaf Hussian is trying to cash out the reputation Mustafa Kamal made during his tenure and by doing this, he is actually denting it.

These days can be called worst days for MQM, where they have lost almost everything, on political front their credibility is zero and they have become joke of the town... where the hard-core supporters ( the one who do not kill) are finding it easy to say that they are no longer supporting MQM ( ofcourse in doors) and on ground, the investigations by Scotland Yard and hearing of Supreme Court is getting on their nerves, so far, none of their leader have come out clean and have actually denied the allegation ZM made nor they have shown good resistance backed by logic and evidence to defend themselves on legal grounds...

The few options Altaf Hussain have got now are:

1) Give in to Asif Ali Zardari ( which he already did and have lost its credibility)

2) create chaos in the country ( luckily they are not all over the country and the only city they are in, they have done the best they do)

3) hope that Army takes over in the center and then they can revive while the main stream parties would be at the receiving end from the army dictator ( MQM have actually grew under the army rule, be it Religious ZIA or Liberal Mushy)

Re: Suddenly MQM found itself fighting for survival

And this chaos can be very expensive for the city dwellers:

Malls offering shops ‘free of rent’ as businessmen leave city

Salman Siddiqui
KARACHI: A number of shopping mall owners in the city have offered their shops ‘free of rent’ to traders after around 30 percent shopkeepers winded up their businesses due to bad law and order situation.
There are about 84 shopping malls in the city and many of them have displayed banners or billboards offering traders shops without rent. “Owners are just demanding monthly maintenance charges from tenants and nothing else,” said Siddiq Memon, chairman Karachi Traders Action Committee.
Until three months ago, these shops had been attracting a rent of some Rs200 per square feet or in the range of Rs60,000 to Rs150,000 per shop, depending on size and locality.
He added that owners were demanding only maintenance charges at the rate of Rs15 to Rs35 per square feet.
He said that these offers were being made by malls at Tariq Road, Defence, Clifton, Hyderi and other areas.
Memon said that due to almost no protection available to traders against extortionists, shopkeepers have relocated their businesses to other parts of the country or abroad, he added.
Those shopkeepers who are still running their businesses are attracting only 10 percent buyers. “There are a lot of weddings happening, but still the business is in the reverse gear. If the situation remains tense and extortionists are not controlled many other shopkeepers will leave the city.”
He said that due to bad law and order, shopkeepers failed to attract business throughout Ramazan. They did good business only in the last five days, he added. “About half of the investment made by traders for Ramazan is stuck up.”
He claimed that traders had cumulatively made an investment of about Rs150 billion this Ramazan. Out of this, Rs70 billion worth of garments, shoes and other Eid-related items are yet to be sold.

Re: Suddenly MQM found itself fighting for survival

Such a sad situation. neither MQM nor PPP are good for their voters. PPL of Sindh are on one hand suffering due to politics of violence & provocation (adverse impact on business) and on other hand they are victim of bad administration (flood destruction due to lack of preventive measure and corruption at every stage)

Re: Suddenly MQM found itself fighting for survival

^^ So MQM actually accomplished its Mission.. turning Karachi from Economic HUB to city of ghosts???
