Honour for Successful Entrepreneur Zulfiqar Hussain
Leading businessman and international speaker Zulfiqar
Hussain was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday
Honours, recognising his many years’ service to business
and charities. Commenting on his award, Zulfiqar said: “I
arrived in Britain from Pakistan unable to speak one word of
English but my parents ensured that I got myself an
education and they inspired me to be successful. It is a
great honour to see my work supporting local businesses and
charities recognised by Her Majesty the Queen.”
Renowned primarily as being the Founder of
‘not-for-profit’ organisation ‘Global Promise’, a
social enterprise he set up in response to the Asian
Tsunami and which, in less than three months, raised over
£2 million, all of which was used to provide practical
help to survivors of the disaster. He also helped raise
around £500,000 for the Asian Earthquake.
Global Promise’s, latest bold initiative is WALKTALK,
which is headed up by Zulfiqar and involves Zulfiqar
walking all the way from Leeds to London next month. The
aim of WALKTALK is to encourage people of all cultures,
faiths and nationalities to talk to each other as they walk
and help break down barriers by fostering better
understanding of each other. Zulfiqar will be accompanying
Gill Hicks, a survivor of the 7/7 bombings in London who
lost both her legs on that fateful day Often described as a
serial entrepreneur, Zulfiqar describes WALKTALK ‘ as a
great way to help businesses do something very practical
and meaningful as part of their Corporate Social
Responsibility agenda.’
Zulfiqar is also known for his expertise in leadership and
mentoring as part of
Bradford-based Global Synergy Solutions, Zulfiqar travels
the world giving presentations on coaching, mentoring and
diversity-related issues. He recently co-authored a book,
‘The Psychology of Coaching, Mentoring and Learning,’
which is now on sale worldwide and has been translated into
a number of different languages; he has delivered lectures
in Europe, China, Pakistan, India, Canada and the United
States. Zulfiqar was the recipient of the IoD Director of
the Year in 2005, and IAB Social Entrepreneur of Year 2006.
He has also recently released a series of Inspirational
poetry books to help raise funds for Global Promise.
