What is a ‘career woman’ and how do you differentiate a ‘career woman’ from a woman who works? I don’t get it
Is career woman someone who invests her effort in her career and wants to be good at what she does and gets ahead? Or is it someone who prioritized career progress over family at some point in time or throughout her working years?
Because if it is the former then you know what, I want my kids to be educated by a teacher who is focused on what she does and it’s more than a paycheck for her, when my mother goes to a doctor, I want that doctor to be someone who values her career and wants to do her best at the level she feels she can make the most impact. I am very thankful to the doctor who put in the time and effort to become a specialist …an respected authority who knows her subject matter so well that I am comfortable that my Mom is in good hands.
If the definition is latter one, where a career woman is someone who is ignoring family responsibilities and have them play second fiddle to other things, it does not have to be a job, it can be “social work” … Or social life, …or dramas and Bollywood addiction …or anything else.
And if doing that makes someone a bad family member then does it not apply to men? Whether its sports, hanging with the guys, or whatever.
At times we have to make sacrifices, men and women both. Sometimes you don’t take that job which includes weekly travel, or don’t apply for the role which would mean much longer hours… And at times you do those not just because a bigger title, or a few extra bucks, or a cooler or impressive employer brand.
You do them because you invest in yourself for your family spouse, children, parents..and yes yourself because if you are the type of person who needs to be intellectually stimulated and engaged in the field you have passion for then you must do it, you can’t sit around unhappy whether you say it or not, feeling you can’t do what you want to do and are limiting yourself too much.
Choose the right terms to describe someone, the term career woman to describe some selfish, calculating, cold, person is just as intelligent as using the term observant Muslim to deceive some narrow minded,ignorant, chauvinist, bigot.
