Re: subjectivists better or determinists?
De gustibus non disputandum est
Re: subjectivists better or determinists?
could you give a brief description of what you think entails a subjectivitst and a determinist. I’m not sure whether my interpretation of this notion is the same as yours…this could lead to confusion in any discussion :k:
Re: subjectivists better or determinists?
subjectivist will look at the subjective or “own” view of things in order to decide on a given course of action. will-power and personal autonomy comes in and figures huge in this philosophical notion.
where as ,
a determinist is a consequentilist. the events that preceed the current or future sequence of events or end results, guide her/ his flow of thinking.

Re: subjectivists better or determinists?
but are these two things totally separate from each other?
I can imagine that the future consequences of an action that a consequentialist sees, are very much colored/influenced by his subjective observation of things around him?
But apart from this discussion, I get the broad distinction you are trying to make, and in this light I can imagine that neither is better than the other. You need both aspects to come to the optimal (note: need not be the best) solution
Re: subjectivists better or determinists?
People are just like that sometimes. Its not like they prepare themselves for it. Some are subjective...while some are determined.
Re: subjectivists better or determinists?
thanks folks.
a very good close friend of mine reflected that identity is not what should separate us from others. i have understood her correctly, it is our and the other peoples' goodness or badness, which will make us be known as nice people or bad people. we should go beyond creed. which is such a nice idea.
i cannot seem to finding its implementation beyond drop in a bucket,. maybe i am a subjectivist. i see the world from my experiences , as many of us do, in fact most of us do.
how do we seamlessly merge into the great big endless sea of people, universally and hope for and work toward finding only the good things in others, and improving each other thru sharing the good, alone and not responding with badness to somebody clearly bad to us.
example is the way Muslims are at the current times, with the non Muslims.
who is determinist?
someone who believes it is their right to fight for their rights
or those who have a self-proclaimed entitlement to police other countries, for their own self-serving agenda.
who suffers theoretically and in actuality? the common people. me and my neighbors who do not share my faith with me.
ideology is a great thing.
but, if it creates human emotions of hatred and destructive nature to come out, in several ways that we witness today, then, what can make us determined and how can we handle subjectivism when we deal among ourselves and with others?
i know i might have given many diff strands of thoughts above, but i hope the readers will understand what i mean, philosophically on the issues of existing and gaining strength as a subjectivist or a determinist.
the examples are just used for the argument's sake.
Best,
Dushi
Re: subjectivists better or determinists?
I believe you have misunderstood what you've asked in the first place, yourself. :(
Why do people strive to see the good in others ?
Whats wrong if we see the bad, alongside it all ? Does it make us less of a good person.
I dont think so.
BUt forming an opinion entirely on the goodness or the bad...is rather unfair.
Like it or not, people live life as experience teaches them to. Quite a number of bad experiences would throw us off. We'd see wrong, in just about anyone or anything that comes our way.
Thats just how it is.
And thats how we end up being Subjectivists or Determined (could've used a better word instead, this just doesnt qualify, or so i think)
:)
Re: subjectivists better or determinists?
I believe that one should be both a subjectivist and a determinist. Different circumstances in life should inspire us to react and decide differently depending on the facts and emotions available to us at a particular point in time. Restricting our reactions to a particular strain of thought will eventually only restrict our options in life.
Re: subjectivists better or determinists?
i agree.the pursuit for perfectionism or absolute regularity of one or the other is perhaps never effective.
objectivity is unknowable. so, a delicate balance has to be struck in all manners of behaving, be it from a subjectvisit POV or determinist.
Re: subjectivists better or determinists?
The islamistist is better than both! This much cannot be denied. Takbir!
