Well, subdued doesn't necessarily have to mean fully extinguished. It can also mean lowered in intensity/strength. That said, it might even not be seen as an oxymoron. It could refer to a rebel that has "toned down" the rebelliousness.

As for your query it could be a rebel who has toned down his/her ways, possibly from maturity, or from constant failure at rebelling.
