Re: maya khan FIRED!!

it shows that people and viewers have power to change things. :k: Hope people get this fired up about other issues in Pakistan.

Re: maya khan FIRED!!

so why didnt aamir liaqat ever get fired?

Re: Subah Saverey Maya kay Sath.....Seriously!!!

Such a stupid woman.

Re: Subah Saverey Maya kay Sath.....Seriously!!!

What Irony - I liked that people reacted to a TV anchor taking it too far and invading people's privacy and rights and achieved a result. But would these people have reacted in the same manner and spoken up if it was done by some people from a madrassa? or they would have accepted invasion of privacy and individual's rights in-the-name-of-god?

Till that happens, we still have a long way to go as a society!

Re: maya khan FIRED!!

^^ Because Amir Liaqat did that "in-the-name-of-the-god".

Re: maya khan FIRED!!

People are the power, bud.

Aamir Liaquat, forgive me if I offend anyone, is an a-hole. The majority of Pakistan are willing to believe that a religious person of his popularity was 'framed' and the video was doctored. It's just easier to say that rather than fire him, and have this whole hoop-la about religious authorities being hypocritical and using their status to do whatever...all that unpleasant stuff. However, if a woman does that it's easy to remove her. She's a woman. What influence does she have, right?

Re: maya khan FIRED!!

Amir Liaquat wasn't chasing people down. I hate him, but what Maya did is different. I do think he should be fired, but what Maya did was more disturbing. People have the choice to listen to that guy and they choose to treat him like some holy saint.

Re: Subah Saverey Maya kay Sath.....Seriously!!!

Trashy women, all of them. This is why one needs to keep religion away from government - a slippery slope.

Re: maya khan FIRED!!

I agree, but in the same breath...those women had the choice not to follow her around, right? =/ I mean i highly doubt she would have gone so far as to chase couples down if she was by herself. Both TV personalities are disturbing - and I think both just took advantage of their psychotically devoted fans. ie) AUNTIES.

Re: maya khan FIRED!!

i hate him hes an a hole

Re: maya khan FIRED!!

that's true. neither have the intention of any ones "bhala"

i agree. i'd prolly punch him if i see him :D

Re: Subah Saverey Maya kay Sath.....Seriously!!!

It's not that religion needs to be kept away from gvmt. Saudi Arabia runs fine. Iran runs fine. The problem arises when people try to introduce "modernization" into an already perfect ageless, timeless legal system. Islamic law is really simple and straightforward. People corrupt it, and try to become judges of something they need not be judges of. Obviously, if you're in an Islamic country and someone's making out in the street - the gvmt has a right to say, "Stop, that's gross. Prove you're legally married." But when people try to go out of their way to prove something (random couple sitting in park doing nothing) - then you create problems.

My point is - it's always one or the other. Religious or secular. You can't mix the two.

Re: Subah Saverey Maya kay Sath.....Seriously!!!

I dont know much about Iran. But if your opinion is Saudi Arabia runs fine, then I can understand why you feel this way.

This is what I meant by slippery slope - givernment interfering in people's private liges in the name of religion - you shall not leave the house without a male relative, you shall not sit in parks together, you shall not hold hands, you shall not ..... This is a precursor of things to come if government and religon are allowed to mix, IMO

Re: Subah Saverey Maya kay Sath.....Seriously!!!

I'm not saying I prefer the way Saudi Arabia runs - it just runs fine, though. Just bcos I hate Kobe Bryant doesn't mean he plays crappy b-ball. You get me? Saudi has instated a rule of law from the beginning. They don't do back and forth - they don't try to 'secularize' their nation. It's religious law and that's it, end of story. It's not sort of religious but kind of democratic but also kind of socialist law. When you get countries trying to do that, you have problems. Saudi Arabia is a religious example...let's go the other way...Turkey. Chock full of Muslims but they have a secular gvmt...everything's cool.

A lot of the laws Pakistan comes up with are weird. It's like one foot is in the religious boat and the other is in the secular one. Both go different ways and the end result is Maya Khan and creepy aunties and aalim online frauds. =D

Re: Subah Saverey Maya kay Sath.....Seriously!!!

To the best of my knowledge, in Saudia Arabia, there is one set of laws for the common person, and another set for the Royal family. IMO, they are just using religion to keep the common person from questioning authority.

If Saudi Arabia's strength is their inflexibility, I dont consider that a strength. Rigid stances are a detriment to progress. The model for the future is going to be secularism, IMO.

(Nice courteous discussion - cheers!)

Re: maya khan FIRED!!

I keep reading the title as Maya Khan FRIED.

Re: maya khan FIRED!!

OMG. This is amazing. I love love love love the people who stood up against this.
