Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

ehsan bhai, it might be inconclusive, but if u look at the position of his thumb when it goes down the ball, the nail is clearly the thing that it comes in contact with the ball. anyways if he was removing sumthing y not use both hands why use one? why try to be slick like that.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

^ The umpires must be blind who were not able to see the scratches on the ball when they inspected the bsll at the end of the over.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

Is one scratch detectable?

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

BAN THAT SHOAIB AKHCHEATER…:grumpy:  :aj:

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

I don't think at this point anyone could conclude that Shoaib was ball tempering. I have seen the clip, and if a bowler is trying to rough up one side of the ball, in order to reverse swing, then the one flicker of thumb that Akhtar did could hardly accomplish anything.

So, basically, Nasser Hussain etc are just trying to create a controversy by being uber technical about it. Also, after Oval test, Sky tv crew must be feeling a bit embarassed for not having caught ball tempering by Pakistan, and so now they are doubly focussed on getting their cameras pointed to anything that can possibly be deemed ball tempering.

This also brings into focus the inane way cricket rules on ball tempering are written. So a bowler can vigorously rub one side of the ball all he wants, but if he wants to remove a speck of dirt, he has to toss the ball to the umpire. These kinds of arm-chair controversies bring more credence to Bob Woolmer's argument that as long as the fielding side is not bringing outside objects to temper with the ball, using your sweat or fingers to 'prepare' the ball, should be allowed. Even rubbing the ball on the ground should be ok, since thats what the ball does anyway, most of the time while in play.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

saieen, ur pakistani, live in canada, and support england? lol hmmm

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

How are you sure there was a scratch on the ball. Did you see it on the TV, the actual scratch. If one scratch is not visible than surely it must have made no difference to the ball and therefore it is not tampering and therefor he was probably cleaning it and not tampering it.

Oh yes I forgot you pointed to the reverse swing as well which you detected after the tampering.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

i mean, i didn't find anythng suspicious about the reverse until that incident happened, i just connected the dots, thats the aim of tampering, isn't it. I agree the evidence is inconclusive, however i do think he did scratch it on purpose.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

one scratch can make the ball reverse swing?

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

thats not the issue....its if he scratched the ball, so far it's inconclusive, so innocent until proven guilty, i'll end it with that.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

have you even tried thinking for a moment?

bhaioon, ball tempering evidance consist of 2 things
1- Tempered ball
2- Evidence that some one tempered it

Umpires were checking the ball after every over and it was not tempered, so thats the end of that. ...! If one of the 2 evidences is missing, its not tempering.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

Mike Procter did not see any issue with the situation but our guppies do.

Hmmm ! What awakened you from the dead? I never heard or read of you in these forums, who exactly are you ? Another ‘sleeper’ from the other side ? :hoonh:

YOU ARE SO STUPID! :smilestar:

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

I don't think thats entirely true though. Based on my understanding of the current laws of cricket, the umpires DO NOT have to see anyone tempering the ball to conclude that the ball is tempered.

Although, as we found out in the aftermath of Oval test, umpires better be darned certain about some one tempering the ball before leveling such a serious allegation against a team. Otherwise, even if by just looking at the ball, the umpires suspect that the ball is out of shape/tempered, they can/should just change the ball.

Changing the ball is a fairly common occurance in cricket for multiple reasons (quality of the balls, stroke play, mist etc), but it was awarding 5 penalty runs and a charge of deliberate ball tempering against the whole Pakistan team, that created the whole Oval test issue.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

Go to BBC message boards...lol.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

Just because shoaib was doing "something" with the ball (which by the way is totally inconclusive) and was caught on TV camera by chance does not mean he was tampering.

Whatever he was doing, I am sure is something which everyone does in every other match which is not always covered by TV cameras. Sometimes it is one of the slip fielders or some other fellow bowler before giving the ball to the bowler or sometimes it is the bowler himself.

Do you think that someone will be so stupid to actually start tampering with the ball while going back to his run up. This is the time when TV cameras are definitely covering the bowlers. Even in normal circumstances, someone will think thousand times before doing it. But in the current environment, after the aftermath of Oval test, no body would not even think of doing it even in an empty room.

Had the Oval incident never occured 2 weeks ago, no body would have given this incidence any importance. After hearing sensationalizing news for approx 10 days after the Oval test, things came back to routine, however fans and media needed something spicy to keep the issue alive. I guess this will help them, so enjoy till it last which I assure you will be for a very short time.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

Your right, this just in...no charges will be filed against Shoaib Akhtar...Phew...I thought they were going to throw the book at him.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

Shoaib cleared as Pakistan wins

Shoaib Akhtar and his Pakistani teammates were cleared of wrongdoing after an incident during last night’s one-day international victory over England.

Barely more than two weeks after the unprecedented conclusion to the Oval Test, pictures from host broadcaster Sky Television appeared to show the fast bowler flicking at the ball with his left thumb as he returned to his mark at the Rose Bowl.

But more than an hour after Pakistan wrapped up a two wicket-win to go 2-0 up in the five-match series, a statement issued on behalf of International Cricket Council match referee Mike Procter said: **“After viewing television footage the match umpires have decided no action should be taken against any Pakistan players.” **

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

I just saw the video in the Video section. There's absolutely nothing in it. At least not compared to the Waqar Younis video of 2000 in Sri Lanka.

Re: Stupid Shoiab Akhter!

United we stand, divided we fall. *When Sachin got caught the whole Indian team was behind him. When Atherton got caught I bet Naseer Hussain didnt think it was stupid back then and most englishmen were probably making excuses. Here, our own player is doing **something* to the ball, something that no one really knows. But all of a sudden everyone wants Shoaib's head. He has bowed beautifully in this series so far, he seems to have a sane head on his shoulders now, he seems to be taking the responsibility of main strike bowler and senior fast bowler well but no one would notice that. Sky shows something that every bowler probably does in every match and all of a sudden people want action taken agaisnt Shoaib, calling him stupid and such.

The best part is, next time we are in a crunch situation and we need wickets to win the game the same people would be hoping that Shoaib does the magic one more time.
