Stuffy Head

OK so I had a cold last week, you know the one with an itchy throat and the sniffles. But since Friday night, my head is so heavy that when I lie down and try to sleep, I get a feeling of stuffiness and fullness in my head, my eyes hurt and it’s so uncomfortable. When I’m up and about, I do have a nagging low intensity headache but it’s when I sleep I have the problem?

What should I take in terms of over the counter meds? Any other suggestions? I don’t feel like making a trip to the doctors office just for this.

Re: Stuffy Head

Nurofen Plus - Thats Ibuprofen with Codeine in it. Should get rid of the feeling and help u sleep.

Steam inhalation with T Tree oil added to the water.

Sleep with a light handkerchief over your face with some Tea Tree oil and a bit of Vicks vaporub rubbed into it.

Re: Stuffy Head

Sounds good, thanks :hugz:

Re: Stuffy Head

try green tea ( only tea ,no milk) with lemon drops in it
or honey in warm water & lemon drops .
vicks also works sometimes

steam, vicks vapo rub, cool mist humidifier, honey, chicken soup...

Re: Stuffy Head

i always find putting my head (with towel covering) over a bowl of boiling water with a spoon of vicks rub in it, then inhaling the steam helps.

Re: Stuffy Head

now wat can i tke apart from paracetamol to help me
would appreciate any suggestions

Re: Stuffy Head

Use a humidifier and take a shower with hot water before going to bed.. breathing in the steam helps to get rid of the stuffiness..Also, drink plenty of soup/hot tea/or any liquid that is evaporating steam!!!

send TLK away for a few days :halo:

but seriousky..dayquil..day quil rocks.
nyquil at night time

Re: Stuffy Head

This happened when he was away :(

I love Day and Nyquill, and that's what I had. I'm all better now!

Re: Stuffy Head

Sounds like a sinus problem. I never suffered from sinus before but 1 1/2 yrs ago I had similar symptoms as yours. Inhalation is the best thing for this. But rather than tea tree oil I would go for eucalyptus oil. I also pour couple of drops of eucalyptus oil on each side of pillow and this helps with night time. You will need to refresh it at some point in the night.

Re: Stuffy Head

Thanks aly-sam. I do have tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil. I used the latter a few days ago along with nyquill. I'm all better now.

Re: Stuffy Head

Heres something that I discovered last winter when I had a really bad sinus/upper respiratory infection. Its called a “neti-pot”. You take simple warm saline (salt) solution and pour it thru one nostril at a time, washing out the entire sinus cavity with saline solution. WHAT a wonder this simple solution is! I would get colds and always had a bad cough all winter until I started using this thing regularly…heres a link:

Re: Stuffy Head

OMG Mama I was going to suggest similar but more manual and rather eeeewh method. Saline solution in a flattish bowl. Your nostril should be in the solution. Close one nostril and inhale (literally take in the solution) through the other and then snuff it out. Is disgusting but really helped me. we dont get those contraptions so have to make do with our utensils unforunately :(

Re: Stuffy Head

aly, lol! poor you! Yes its kinda gross and actually a tough thing to inhale the saline solution thru your nose and the neti-pot kind of bypasses that....but you can still do it at home without the fancy and expensive contraptions. You;d need something like a tiny lota or tiny plant watering container, one with a spout that is small enough to fit a nostril. Fill it with very warm (almost hot) water with salt. Then put the spout well into the nostril, look DOWN into the sink and turn your head to the side opposite the nostril. Let the water drain out the opposite nostril. Repeat on the other side. Blow your nose and VIOLA and oh-my-goodness!!! I can breathe! My headache is gone!!! The dern thing really is a wonder, I use it like weekly now and never get colds anymore.
