Studying Political Science in Pakistan

Hi,

Next year I’ll be moving to Pakistan along with my brother for further studies. We are not sure where we should be going, though one thing is for sure, we’ll be in hostels.

Our first thought was Islamabad; its atmosphere looks more like this place. Lahore also looks fine too but it’s so crowded and this is the first time I’ll be on my own… anyways, Since we can’t leave Qatar right now for a survey of colleges, we asked a couple of people, but I’ve a feeling that we got biased suggestions …just delusion of what they heard long back and somehow no one liked the idea of hostels..

About my career, well I’ve got Political Science and Commerce in mind. Two different fields I suppose… I was thinking more in the lines of journalism but don’t know if there are any good colleges in Pakistan for studying that and what was it…oh yes, Pakistani society not allowing female journalists? Besides that I’ve a love for business…but I suppose I’d prefer journalism over that. I know it’s a vast field but I don’t have enough information about them… so if anyone is studying Political Science right now, any insight would be helpful.

So right now I need help with names of colleges in Pakistan which you would suggest for the above subjects, their price range, merit etc and accommodation is a problem.

I only know about Journalism. In Lahore, the best place to study Mass Communication ( Journalism ) is Punjab University itself. They've got very good teachers, plus high merit too. Its also being taught in Lahore College for Women but I'm not so sure about Kinnard College. There are a few other colleges but they're not worth mentioning.

Though there aren't any restrictions for female journalists, but their aren't many jobs available. As the subject is Mass Communication ( not journalism ) , so ppl get jobs as PROs in different departments. My sister teaches Mass Comm at masters level. Its a nice field, you should go for it.

Good Luck...

Thanks sac, didn't know it was called mass communication :D

Kinnaird college's Mass comm program is more practical as compared to Punjab university one and if you are good yourself it is prefered over PU one. Because Kinnaird is famous for producing bold and confident girls unlike PU. PU's Mass Comm department has been there for many years, Kinnaird has started it only 4-5 years back. I would personally recommend Kinnaird yea, because i did it from there :p

As for jobs again if you are confident you will end up with a job, depending upon what you want to do. Mass communication provides unlimited oppurtunities in several fields. You can land in advertising, PR, print journalism, broadcasting, telivision production more or less any where :D

As for journalism not suitable/approved for females in Pakistan, I think those days are long gone. The best part about Mass Communication is that you don't have to become a journalist, if u don't want to, the oppurtunities are endless. If you are ready to take them.

If you are looking for commerce Halley college (Punjab university) is still the best.

Wish you good luck.

Oh forgot to ask you looking for graduation or masters level info?

^ graduation. I'm confident enough I suppose...so that won't be a problem. Thanks for all the information :D
