Studying during summer

I am surprised that all the kids get is a recommendation of summer reading program do to in the summer vacations.

In Pakistan, if you recall we had to cover or revise all our subjects in the summer time. I am not a advocate of that because I thought it was too much but I don’t like children not learning anything new for the summer.

Should children stay academically engaged in the summer holidays? Or do they need 2-3 months to just be.

Re: Studying during summer

They call it summer vacation for a purpose , relax and get ready for new academic year.

Re: Studying during summer

let the kids be kids for 3 months...they need that for their normal physical, physiological and psychological development. it's in their best interest. :)

Re: Studying during summer

It doesnt happen in the UK-the is no concept of summer school. woohoo!!!

Re: Studying during summer

No summer studying please!

Re: Studying during summer

There is no need. Also, for the kids to just read (even if it is just fiction) will help them improve their grades all round drastically, so as long as there is encouragement for them to read as a hobbie and to challenge themselves with what they read they don't need anything else. Depending on how old they are you could also subscribe to a weekly broadhsheet so they can look over it from time to time, that would be quite useful.
Other than that, let them relax.

Re: Studying during summer

some kids regress in skills because of lack of practice/exposure/continuity
I think there should be some sort of summer work but not exorbitant
