Well simply put, we all need faith before we can question anything. The Quran holds in it everything we need to know about our lives and how to live them. The Quran isa guide for mankind. Faith comes from Allah.
Theres is absolutely nothing wrong with asking question, nor is there anything wrong in learning about other faiths. But one must have ones own faith to go off with the rest.
Perhaps the other person thought it not such a great idea because you might get confused? People who do not know too much about Islam, can easily get confused. Its normal for all of us.
What would be great would be to read the Quran with its translation. Thats what we Muslims should all do. For a better understanding.
Anyway theres nothing wrong with the bible classes. Let us know how it goes.
Can you imagine a child in the third grade who has just come to Canada from lets say India , has no knowledge of English (or maybe can speak English) - can you imagine what it would be like for him to try and read a novel in English? About the culture in Canda, the typical idioms, etc? Or understand grammar?
One of the biggest issues with people who read the Quran by themselves esp lets say Christians, is that they take it at face value. You cannot Im afraid, read the Quran without the help of a learned scholar - and expect to understand it.
u said "Well simply put, we all need faith before we can question anything. "
A critical thinker needs to shed all faiths and beliefs before examining something. A researcher needs to re-examine his assumptions all the time, to make sure that he is not making his conclusions based on false assumptions.
Hmmm care to give references too as to where does the number comes from… and which ayats… or is it also one of our games to create rifts.. as you have been playing ignorant and giving comments on honor killing thread and have failed to defend your own words and data to the references I asked…???
The Quran was supposedly told by Gabriel to Muhammed who told it to others who told it to others who recorded it some time after Muhammed’s death. One would have to assume God was either using Gabriel’s voice and image to speak (can’t do that, there’s only ONE God) or Gabriel was reading His script or Gabriel had perfect memory and recitation skills. Then one would have to accept that an unread man was able to perfectly memorize the exact words spoken by God (Gabriel) and recite them to others, who also had perfect memorization and recitation skills because the message wasn’t in its finished form, it was retold yet again to others who transcribed the them to book format. Another obstacle to overcome in believing the words to be the LITERAL words of God, is to believe He speaks in rhyme and out of order.
One of the biggest issues I have is how can a book that is supposed to be the word of God for all people and all ages be so dependent on knowing the culture of an ancient, barbaric, uneducated society. To have to depend on “learned scholars” leaves us open to the interpretations of bin Ladens and Mullah Omars. That’s not a “perfect” scenario.
So where is your emperical evidence to justify this statement and assumption:
What unique environmental, population and survival demand existed in the western world that set off the industrial revolution here that did not exist in the middle east/ south east and infact the rest of the world? Europeans didnt immigrate to another country that was industrialized and find out that individualism works better than the collective/ extended family. Where is the emperical evidence for such certainty in this ** belief** of yours?
I have had the opportunity to read both texts. I think Allah in the bible is sometimes both a little more violent and at other times slightly more affectionate than in the Quran. I find the orientalist charge that Allah in the Quran is more violent and incompassionate compared to the bible, at best a result of a lack of ability to appreciate another culture and language and at worst, prejudice. To me, the Quran and coming of Mohammad feel like the natural continuation of what was prophesised in the Jewish and Christian scriptures, just as it says in the Quran.
Many westerners, in my experience, just read stuff written by other westerners, about the Quran rather than invest the time to research such charges for themselves. Those who do the research for themselves, sometimes, sincerely, come to a less hostile conclusion about the Quran.
Everything would start to make sense if you look at Prophet P.B.U.H. out of context of a normal Human being… He is the Prophet Allah SWT. the same Allah SWT who made road in the middle of the sea for Hazrat Mousa(Moses) and when Moses army crossed through the sea and all the members of the firoun army were inside the sea following Moses the route was finished… Its the same Allah SWT which asked Moses to drop a stick and it became a snake… its the same Allah SWT who made Hazrat Issa A.S. born without a father… are you doubting on Allah SWT that he can do so many miracles but cannot convey the message… the text in the quran is itself witness of the unseen knowledge it has which scientist has discovered today and are still discovering… how would a person 1400 years ago give so much knowledge which people are discovering now after so much research and technology development..hmm makes you wonder doesn’t it… hmm you doubt the authenticity of Quran… isn’t it enough of the long story you came up with how it was compiled and stuff.. and still unlike bible and torah there is still one version out there… no one has still been able to alter the text of Quran… and if you are still in doubt following is the website I ran into line where you’ll find amazing facts.. I haven’t checked it out completely.. but I hope its serves as a good source for your knowledge.
Its amazing how far some people can go.. and use religon forum on bases to spread false propoganda and crack jokes by mentioning some unreferenced information which can be offending or misleading to others… Specially lost soul and his twist logics which don’t even makes sense.. based on his ideology on honor killings I won’t be suprised if he says if a guy hits someone cars deliberately the person who gotten hit should also get the same punishment as the one on fault…eventhough he is a victim… shouldn’t it Mr. Lost Soul..care to answer please??? his ignorant and lost mind went as far as implying that punishment of rape should be the same as punishment of zina.. and later he accused me for some hindu / muslim comparison..when I didn’t even mentioned hindu in my post… Shows his motives to creates rifts… Is that the purpose of this religon forum… to crack jokes on other religons… throw baseless accusations and spread around filth… I think for sensitive issues like religon this forum could be used better if the moderators could get some scholars from islam, christianity, hindus whatsoever and have them answer the queries people have.. right now it just seems that everyone seems like he is scholar and is fully justified in spreading baseless accusations, filth and crack jokes on other religons without any proper reasoning… to me the forum doesn’t fullfill any purpose besides what I mentioned above…
