I belive cultural and religous values r outcome of environment, population survival demands (and hence the mode of economy, meeting that demand).
Since some ppl want to be independent in Agriculture economy, they wont open a soup factory to do that. Industrialization is not the effect of civil rights movement, but one of its natural causes. Respect for civil and personal rights did not emerge from the philanthropy of foundering fathers of this nation, but rather a common sense requirement for the best efficiency of the production means. This would explain why business in USA adopts more and more gay friendly rules and regulations, but the USA neocon govt is moving in the other directions. Same goes for civilian rights to use drugs, end their lives, without any govt interference.
