Salam all,
My son will be starting at a islamic school for pre-k next week iA. I would like to set up a study area of him since he will be getting home work now. Up-to now he was at a daycare and all the “studying” was very relaxed. But now i want to setup a area when all of his school supplies can be stored. the bed room has too many toys and i think he will get distracted easily.
How did you start this process? Do most of you have the study area in their bedroom?
Also, how did you start the homework routine with them?
What supplies are needed??
Any help would be great for be to initiate this process.
Re: Study area setup for a preshooler
I didn't set up any sort of study area for my kids until the my reached 4th grade or so...until then all homework was done either at the kitchen table or along side my husband or I in our home office/study as we work. Even now, with his own desk in his room, my middle schooler prefers to do his homework at the kitchen table.
Honestly, a 3 year old preschooler is not going to be getting so much homework (if any at all) that he needs a proper study area. If you want to make a nice little nook to organize and store school/craft supplies that's something different (and Pinterest is the best place to get ideas) but as far as a homework routine, once your child is older it's quite simple....come home from school, change your clothes, have a snack and finish any homework BEFORE the TV or a single game/gadget is allowed to be touched.
I now have 5th graders and a 7th grader and they maybe have a maximum of 15-20 minutes of assigned homework a night (if that). School curriculums are really getting away from overloading kids with homework these days. Most of everything is completed in school. I do require my kids to do 30 minutes of reading everyday though, as books are really important to me. My elementary ages twins have required reading logs and spelling lists weekly but that's about it.

Thanks for the input. So he does have home (tracing etc,) but which shouldn't take more thn 30 minutes. I guess kitchen table it will be. I do want a supplies area like you suggested and will look at pinterest for ideas.
