Re: Studies and disappointment

Tell me about it! :(
I do study and study and study but unfortunately I don't get the grades I want.
I'm not sure what Ill do this year since I"ll be taking as many courses as possible so that I can graduate ASAP, but if i'm doing so poorly when not taking many credits how will i fare when taking a lot :( It worries me...

Re: Studies and disappointment

ahhh.. just went through this today! spent whole semester working on this class and totally studied butt off for the final and still didnt get the grade i wanted. spent rest of today telling self that it would be ok.
the thing that really bothered me was that this was a freshman level class and i've done much better on far more advanced classes!
oh well, u just get on with it i guess
hey sara i know ur married and in school as well, do u feel that sometimes it affects ur classes and studying?

Re: Studies and disappointment

^ it’s the 14 month old hanging around that affects it most :hinna:

Re: Studies and disappointment

what 14 month old? yea i'm sure that makes it difficult

Re: Studies and disappointment

the one in my house.. :D
No not really difficult, its just he comes around every so often wanting to get his hands and teeth on any given thing bt for the most part, i do get ample time to study...but i just get too lazy to leave and go to the library where i can get more work done...

Re: Studies and disappointment

Dissapointment in itself can bring the best out of you, i wasn't a grade A student back in the day, infact for the first 2 years my grades were awful, i just stepped up and it all worked out.

Re: Studies and disappointment

I have a very hard time studying, this is one of my biggest problems. So when I get a bad grade I am not completely surprised. However, despite all the classes I have failed and received bad grades in, I stay motivated to continue because I have a goal to reach in life. Several infact. And yes my family certainly helps in giving me motivation.

I've told myself I am going to work a lot harder next semester Insha'Allah. Life is about improving, and also about failures that can help propel you to success. smile

Re: Studies and disappointment

My motivation is always my father. He has worked hard all his life and even after coming here to States, is still working hard to earn another professional degree. He was basically doing MD in Crib. Island many years ago (before I was born) but due to financial aide and few other circumstances, he had to go back to Pakistan. So seeing him study and working keeps me motivated. If he, being at his age, can get A's throughout his cources and keep a GPA of 3.8 and get presidential award, then I should have no excuse to do bad (which I don't Alhamdulillah).

I have seen many people in my life (and still do)who have worked hard and are working full time, driving cabs AND studying and still doing good in their cources (and by good, I don't mean getting C's and D's). And they are not working for their own pleasure but rather because they have to, otherwise I am sure they would rather concentrate on their studies. Hard working people like these have always inspired me.

Re: Studies and disappointment

I would also agree with Orphy that dissappointment brings out the best of you (if you're sincere in realizing that you went wrong) because it gives you a chance to evaluate yourself and prepare better for the future. My advice: Do not look back and weep over what happened but rather look forward and and work to improve yourself.

Re: Studies and disappointment

seriously.... i was gettin 74 out of 80 in one of the classes.. and the 20% was the final exam... i failed the exam and i failed the entire course....i mean what the hell... we dont even get to see the exams so that we can know wat we did wrong.... thats just so not fair !!... i just hate it .. no matter how good marks you're getting through out the semester and if you fail final exam..you fail the entire course!... there goes 600 bucks of that class in waste!

i cant even tell you guys how hard it is for me... managing part time job and univ is really tough.. now i have to work again to get 600 dollars so that i can pay for that course again .... omg...with all the stress... i think ill be bald soon!

Re: Studies and disappointment

Great responses. I think the key to motivation is to set a goal and find out how that particular class fits into that goal. Make it seem practical, for example, if you are taking a killer Physics course for Pre-Med, think about how it may come in handy in your future career as a doc.

Visualize it!

On the other hand, if you are just taking some random class that does not fit your goals, then drop that class.

Motivation to do well comes with perspective. So even if you hate Math (for example), think about how it may help you in everyday life.

Re: Studies and disappointment

The best way to deal with disappointment is to completly forget about it. What happened, happened. Tommorrow is a new day. If you are feeling down, take a nap or do some physical work to get your body tired. Do not think about same thing over and over again. It will lower down your overall confidence.

Next day start off new, nothing you think or do will change the previous grades, so it is worthless to think about it. It makes you fresh, also try to decrease the distractions before the test/ exams. Do not maintain the same routine because that same set up has led to those failing grades. Remember, you have to improve and need a fresh chance.
