Updated at 1310 PST ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Kahlid Pervaiz has said that all arrangements were made for the Friday prayers in Lal Masjid so that the people could offer their prayers, but some people have gone rowdy, while we want that everyone should offer prayers.
Talking to Geo News, he said that no one has been arrested and the security men have been prohibited from intervening. He told that the administration had made all the security arrangements and the checking of everyone entering the mosque was conducted so that no untoward incident could occur.
He told that Maulana Ashfaque’s appointment was done on merit and added, “We have done our duty, but in the prevalent circumstances, he couldn’t have led the prayer. We had expected sloganeering at the Friday prayer, but residents of the locality wanted to offer prayer, for which, necessary renovation of the mosque was done to facilitate the faithful.

Updated at 1235 PST ISLAMABAD: The faithful in Lal Masjid have refused to offer Friday prayers, when new khateeb of Lal Masjid reached there to lead the prayers.
** They chanted slogans of “Al Jihad, Al Jihad” and demanded to bring back Maulana Abdul Aziz. Some of the people started crying on this occasion.** Later, security officials rushed to provide cover to Maulana Ashfaq and drove him away.
Talking to Geo News, Maulana Ashfaq said that he had refused to accept the ‘imamat’ of Lal Masjid, but the government made assurances that the prayers would be offered in a peaceful environment. Now, he would never lead the prayers in Lal Masjid, Maulana Asfaq added.
** Meanwhile, the angry protestors also expelled MMA leader, Liaquat Baloch from the mosque.**
