Situation at Lal Masjid is tene again. Students released by the police have taken control of the masjid and are demanding that Aziz Ghazi by freed and allowed to lead the jumma prayers. They have climbed the rooftop and planted black Al-Jihad flags there. Jihadi songs r blaring from the mosque loud speaker once again. Meanwhile the political stunt by MMA failed when Liaqat Baloch and former NWFP home minister were thrown out of the mosque. Thick skinned that they r, they led prayers outside on the road.

I think this is ridicoulos. We need to de-politicise the mosques…in fact these guys r politicizing namaaz. People inside the mosque r being led by a retired Major. They’ve given a deadline of 2:30 to the govt. to release Aziz(!) otherwise they’ll block the Aabpara road.

Security forces r nowhere to be seen.

Edit: the govt. appointed khateeb has also been thrown out of the mosque.

Update: some students have started painting the mosque with red paint. Others r de-facing it by keying “Lal Masjid” on it in huge letters.

Updated at 1310 PST ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Kahlid Pervaiz has said that all arrangements were made for the Friday prayers in Lal Masjid so that the people could offer their prayers, but some people have gone rowdy, while we want that everyone should offer prayers.

Talking to Geo News, he said that no one has been arrested and the security men have been prohibited from intervening. He told that the administration had made all the security arrangements and the checking of everyone entering the mosque was conducted so that no untoward incident could occur.

He told that Maulana Ashfaque’s appointment was done on merit and added, “We have done our duty, but in the prevalent circumstances, he couldn’t have led the prayer. We had expected sloganeering at the Friday prayer, but residents of the locality wanted to offer prayer, for which, necessary renovation of the mosque was done to facilitate the faithful.

Updated at 1235 PST ISLAMABAD: The faithful in Lal Masjid have refused to offer Friday prayers, when new khateeb of Lal Masjid reached there to lead the prayers.

** They chanted slogans of “Al Jihad, Al Jihad” and demanded to bring back Maulana Abdul Aziz. Some of the people started crying on this occasion.** Later, security officials rushed to provide cover to Maulana Ashfaq and drove him away.

Talking to Geo News, Maulana Ashfaq said that he had refused to accept the ‘imamat’ of Lal Masjid, but the government made assurances that the prayers would be offered in a peaceful environment. Now, he would never lead the prayers in Lal Masjid, Maulana Asfaq added.

I understand the frustration. This again is an effort to treat with kid-gloves terror-infected mad Mullahs. Watch the morons Asma Jahangir, Geo, Aaj, ARY criticizing government yet again.

Reminds me of the fable about the father, son, and their donkey traveling from village to village trying to please people from each village. Finally both were seen carrying donkey on their heads.

This is precisely the Pakistani policy makers are doing and ultimately they are carrying donkey on their head.

BTW, I don't get it. Why did govt. rush to reopen masjid so fast? Is there shortages masjids in Pakistan?

Clearly they are wanting a fight, why else would they do these? I think the government should give it to them.

These people have pbroken several laws, including trespassing and vandalism. I think the police should be sent in to arrest them.

If they so much as try to resist arrest by shooting at police, maximum force should immediately be used.

alright so they have vacated the mosque premises. The administration announced through the loudspeakers on APC, “Come out in ten minutes or we’ll smoke you out”
