Students and their eating habits

Before I learned to cook, I survived on tv dinners, mac and cheese, sausages, and pasta for nearly a year. Now it has gotten better because I know how to cook and have the money and means to get good food but I still find myself going without food for more than 12 hours sometimes, not drinking enough water, not eating enough fruits and vegetables. I’m sure I’m not the only one because students are notorious for scarfing down cheap junk and being malnourished because of time / money constraints / not having the right cooking utensils.

What were (are) your eating habits like as a student? Were there any special efforts you made to eat healthier? I try not to eat junk from outside and instead get fresh fruit juices and grilled food.

Re: Students and their eating habits

I used to survive on chocolatebars and coke. During one of my exams projects I didn’t realize that I had been eating chocolate for two weeks in a row and nothing else. Erm I think I’ve done this more than once. Only recently ended this practice. Money wasn’t the issue though nor was time, cuz Ammi used to cook and even I’d cook for fam without eating myself. I just used to forget.

I’ve been chocolate 'n coke free for 1½months now :hula:

Can’t wait for my exams to end so I can spend a full day in the kitchen, cooking.

Btw. What do you cook now?

Re: Students and their eating habits

not a student. but eat anything and everything i feel like depending on my mood. freid / junk / healthy / boiled whatever. but i agree, i shoudl now learn how to cook. but it is sooooo difficulttt :( how did you do it?

Re: Students and their eating habits

I pretty much lived the typical college students life. Lived off of dining hall food, and did a lot of late night eating btwn 2-4 am. When I moved off campus, then it was ramen noodles or ate out. Tried the buying groceries thing, boca burgers, turkey, but that didnt last long..I tried to eat healthy, but since I worked out at the gym and played in pick up b-ball games, I didnt make much of an effort.

Re: Students and their eating habits

I had the really bad eating habits. :bummer: Would mostly survive on cafetaria food and then later fast food when i moved to my own place. It was hard not having desi shops around and so i would eat fish burgers, pizzas, taco bells’ chalupas etc etc. I know I was bad! :frowning: Plus a full time job coupled with full time school doesnt help your eating lifestyle either. I know these are such pathetic excuses
As a result I gained quite a bit of weight which i am still trying to lose. Since i haev been back home, i have lost abt 15 lbs just by changing my eating habits in the past 7 months or so.

Re: Students and their eating habits

I eat PB&J sandwhiches, salads, and chicken burgers. When I get extra time I make rice or something easy.

Re: Students and their eating habits

I'm a student at the moment, and yeah i have really bad eating habits tho i do make sure i drink enough water during the day. for instance, yesterday, i decided to make roast potatoes for dinner, cos they're easy and its just a matter of peeling and putting them in the oven so kinda quick to make. anyway, i accidently forgot about them, so when i took them out thay were all shrivelled and pretty burnt but it was about 2am, and i had no other food so i just made some gravy to go with it and ate them anyway. they werent actually all that bad.

Re: Students and their eating habits

Chicken burgers, chips and achar sandwiches. Actually, my diet is still the same, only I can now afford to spend more money and buy Hovis bread rather than Asda's smart price brand.

Re: Students and their eating habits

I bet you still only buy the reduced price Hovis though once its a week past its sell by date.

Re: Students and their eating habits

Hovis is still Hovis, even if it is three days past its selll by date :snooty:

Re: Students and their eating habits

I survived on fast food and my favourite, 3 large packets of cookies with a glass of milk.

Heaven I tell thee.

Re: Students and their eating habits

didn't cook much in student life...pizza's, burgers, tacos, burritos, fried chicken, donuts, cakes....used to go to IHOP and Taco Bell a lot Since both of them used to be open most of the night in my town...oh yeah and a lot lunch buffets tooo...when i used to have time and money then used to go to fancier restaurants....man i miss those days

Re: Students and their eating habits

forget the students, I live alone so still got the same habbits.

Re: Students and their eating habits

Most days I lived on mac n cheese, pizza, french fries, chocolate bars and ice cream, and I never put on an ounce of weight because of all the walking I did around campus. Now I cook regularly and eat well, but I sit at a desk all day long and I'm horrified at how much weight I'm putting on by the day.
