Today’s trend is that students as young as 10 year old , also carry a mobile phone on them … do you think students should be allowed to carry ipads/mobiles or any other luxury items to schools and colleges?

A mobile phone in West is a great security device , it is a great security risk in third world countries.

they are so baneful, students should be not allowed mobile phones neither at home nor in educational institutes.

Security tool yes .. but I thought schools are pretty much secure anyways in most ways possible … I think its only a hype that has been created around security ! so why do kids needs ipads and expensive phones at the age of ten?

My 5 years old daughter was dropped off by the stupid school bus driver at the wrong bus stop after school. It was scary , I almost had a heart attach. She was smart enough to start walking in the right direction where my wife could see her. If she had a mobile phone with GPS we could track her or call her , or she could call me or my wife.
Hype or necessity ? There can be many more similar situations.
Many a times the bus is late and we do not get the information , so my heart starts pounding.

I agree Mirch, but then that is only one of the functions ... I see kids around who are literally hooked to blue tooth and texting ... parents have no clue what kids might be upto .. coz they text and then erase the messages ... yes trusting the kids is the key element .. but they are kids after all !

And if that saves one kid from being abducted or dieing then it is worth it. My kids go to schools where they confiscate mobile phone if it is visible and not turned off during school hours . Parents are supposed to go and get it back. Students can go out and use it but not in school halls .School going kids do not get that chance often. Their schedule is pretty tight. Once I had to go and get the phone from school office because my son forgot to switch it off before going into class.

I totally agree with Mirch and above is just one of my fear. If up to me, both of my daughters would be carrying a cell phone. Unfortunately the school does not allow it

one can always buy a cell phone for their kids that could txt or call only 2 numbers. 911 and their parents.

Here in Singapore generally schools do not allow students to carry mobile phones, but most of them do carry as long as do not use when inside the school there is no issue at all.
