anyone familiar with the procedures for student visas from pakistan to usa???

you apply to american university first and then obtain a confirmation of admission.. They send you papers and stuff. U walk into to any american consulates and get your visa.

It is not that easy.
Apply to American university (usually the uni accepts the student), they issue you an i30 form, which you take it to the embassy and APPLY for visa and then wait for that process to finish, which is very hard.

Its not i30 .. its I-20 form that the university sends back to an international student that they admit.
Then you take that form, along with your financial documents that show you have the money to study in the US, your grades to prove that you are a good student and anything else you might think they will ask.
Most visa counselors are looking at three main things 1) You have enough money 2) You have ties to your homeland i.e. you will come back home 3) You are an OK students.

its i-20 not i-30...its a long wait these days make sure you apply early cause they will do an fbi check on u before calling you for interview..and its not easy these days..a lot of guys get refused these days.and even if u do make it there u can not violate any immigration laws like start working odd jobs without permission or take less than 12 units or dont report to the university and disappear ..if u do any of that they ll have you deported in no time.its not like the 90s anymore.

........I think you need to do TOEFL and get required score which would be mentioned in University prospects.....some students also need to get through GRE.

Its very very hard! Sometimes ur documents r fully completed but the consular just refuses ur visa without a valid reason.

in post 9/1 and 7/7 world I dont know. but uptil 1997 it was as easy as dropping your i20 and passport at the Us embassy in London, no interview was needed, they would stamp the visa and mail you back the passport within a day or two.
