Student Biryani is no doubt one of the most popular and visited restauranst in Karachi , last time I had it in 2005 and my reaction was ‘ gawd they are cashing their fame now …
now they have a dining capacity of 600 guests in a 4-story building. Beside dining-in they offer take-away, free delivery, outdoor catering, events and in-house parties.
But I missed those good ol’days when we used to go there with da and as there was no proper family sitting available that time , people used to park their vehicles in adjunct ground … Ya all gotta to sit in your vehicles and wait for the scrumptious Briyani .
Damn ….
Has any one tried Student Biryani @ Gulshan-e-Iqbal near Planetarium ?
My husband's always going on about the delicious taste of Student Biryani. Reading all these comments, i do wonder if the chef there adds a good does of MSG / Ajinimoto / China Salt to the dish or some other flavour enhancer and addictive ingredient?

People blame afeem/bhang (marijuana?) for the addictive taste of tea at pathan's khokha/restaurant :D

Yeah, my uncle actually told me about this legend. I thought he was joking, but he assured me it was true!
Really, in pakistan u don't know what they really put in the food. A few months ago in pakistan we all noticed that as soon as we had consumed no more than 3 mouthfuls of the food, we were really full up, couldnt eat more. This applied mainly to the bbq'd stuff. I really think they put something in the masala to make people not want to eat anymore bbq!

Was it at some relative's house who didn't want you to be there? lol otherwise this is anti-business tactic...

No! it was at the PC bourbon, evening dinner buffet. The rest of the stuff seemed ok, but the chicken tikka and other bbq'd meat and chicken sure did have something in it to make u NOT want to eat more.
Now in the above situation, (it being a buffet) it was a GOOD business strategy for them to limit peoples intake of the more expensive items! (Not that we went for the meat much anyway, just needed to taste it. We were much more happy to see the lovely selection of pickles they had!)

It will be great help for people who are dieting. No ?
Well there are other far more delicious biryani cooked in Karachi than the one at Student Biryani. But mostly they cook it for shadi/valima occasions. Those names include Bhoori bawarchi from Eidgah, Asghar and Bashir Bawarchi from Liaqatabad, Ch. Mateen in North Nazimabad, Qadri Memon in Federal B Area and many more.
