Stringy onion smell

How can the smell of fresh cut onions to be eaten as salad be gone? I usually soak them in salt water or salt alone but even then that stringy smell & taste is there.

What can be done?

Re: Stringy onion smell

spray with Channel #5 perfume :)

Re: Stringy onion smell

Squeeze some lemon juice on it.

Re: Stringy onion smell

sprinkle some salt on them ..leave on the cutting board for a while ..then drain them in water ..squeeze some lemon juice on them and then add to the salad ..or on their own ...

optional: sprinkling chaat masala and lemon gives them a tangy taste and the smell isnt there either

Re: Stringy onion smell

Use red onions, they are usually used in salads and not very strong smell.

Re: Stringy onion smell

I don’t really like onions in my salad or sandwiches.. I don’t like that lingering smell of onion. And if you’re asking about how to get rid of it from your body…well you can’t really. You can use mouthwash, breathmints, gum, deo to mask the odor of onions…but that’s about it. Onion has sulphur compounds that your body tries to get rid of through your breath and the pores of your skin…so you have to wait for your body to elminate it.

In the cooking …you could try cutting the smell of onions with some acid like lemon, or vinegar…like apple cider vinegar.

Re: Stringy onion smell

The only way is to not use any. Even if you get rid of smell when you put them in your salad by any of the methods above , once you chew on them when you eat the salad then your mouth will still smell of it. The onion's smell is in its juice.

May be you should chew a few green cardomoms after eating onions:)
