And will you exactly explain by what you mean by an 'Islamist mindset'
by that I mean anyone who views the west (generallly) and the US (more specifically) as the enemy of Islam.
Why are most of you afraid to answer the question? What do you realistically think will happen if your dreams come true and the US packs up and heads home?
what happened when the British left?.. i think the Americans did pretty well for a nation that got rid of a colonial power..
Yes they did, but none of the muslim nations did anything worthwhile after the brits left.
Hallelujah … just sit tight and see the spin when scums run with their tail between their legs.
** President Bush insists he will stay put in Iraq, but that is a face-saving necessity. ** It may not last after the Presidential election in November.
** For two reasons. First, US citizens want to cut and run in Iraq, ** not stay on as in Germany and Japan. Second, Israel comes in the way. After World War II, the US could legitimately claim to be protecting Germany and Japan from a Soviet threat, and this made American occupation tolerable.
But in Iraq, the US is regarded not as Iraq’s ally but Israel’s ally. From an Arab viewpoint, Israel is a western colonial creation, where white men have driven Easterners from their lands. The US simply cannot bring itself to see events in this light.
It views Hamas and Hezbollah as terrorist organisations to be crushed, where-as even ** pro-democracy Iraqis ** see these outfits as freedom fighters. This does not augur well for a happy ending.

er what do you think will continue to happen if the US doesn't leave? From the US perspective, it will be more flag-draped bodies brought back under solemn military protocols. From the Iraqi perspective, it is hundreds of innocent civilians being blown up at police stations, checkpoints, mosques, cafes, etc.
No one is saying US withdrawal would be a panacea. But keeping US and Brit forces there isn't exactly delivering the beautiful petal-showerings it was originally claimed. There's still some entity called the UN left in this world.
The problem, as i understand is it, is that individuals are being blinded into thinking - there's no other option, we are doing the best we can. It was the SAME IDENTICAL mentality that sustained the sanctions for twelve years. Today, those who endorsed the sanctions have changed their tune ever so conveniently. i hope it will not take another 12 bloody years for the Brits and Yanks to realize that shame is not lost when one acknowledges one's errors of judgement. There is always another alternative.
