Stress

I overheard this UCLA med school guy mentioning that stress is one of the underlying cause of most major medical problems like heart stroke, diabetes, ulcers, irregularities, back problems etc.

Please share your ideas, tips, mental/physical excercises on how to destress oneself.

Theres no better way to destress than to excercise! Hit the gym on a regular basis, sweat it out, jump into the sauna and have a cold beer afterwards. (well omit the last one)

When I was under deep stress I used to meditate, do breathing and stretching excercises. Try going for massages as well, theres nothing more relaxing, especially foot reflexology because there are pressure points in your feet that effect all the organs of your body. (I just had that done last week :stuck_out_tongue: )

And ofcourse, say your prayers regularly, I always feel lighter after Ive prayed.

And watch what you eat, I honestly believe diet has a lot to do with how youre feeling mentally as well. Drink herbal teas.

Read a good book and always make time for yourself to do something you enjoy outside of work/studies.

:rotfl" …kakey, yaar u r just 2 much…(trying to hold my laugh)

one word,

"Yoga"

and if you dont like that word.

"Meditation"

I was wondering about the same topic myself a couple days ago: sometimes when i am stresssed out over something, i cant even sleep peacefully (keep waking up) and i can feel my neck and shoulders all tensed up. I dont feel comfortable going for massages or anything. What to do? :(

^glass o' warm milk

hmmm...

taking a cold shower n then sitting with the Quran...reading Surah yaaseen loudly...always helps relieve stress...

praying namaz regularly makes stress levels overall go down..especially fajar namaz ... this is the only solution i think...

just being strong, getting a grip and telling urself that things r going to be OK inshallah no matter what, and concentrating on the positive things in life...trying to inculcate sabar in the heart abt issues..that helps too...sometimes friends can help coz they can convince u abt this...

gs, msn and just sleeping are sometimes good temporary stress relievers..

sometimes stress is just unavoidable and one just cant run away from it....one just has to suffer the stress Allah has written in their fate ...until the issue resolves and things r back to normal...

Without trying to be arrogant or dis-respectful to anyone else, i'd like to say that most of the mentioned solutions (except for those linked to prayer etc) are only short term relief, and in some cases can make the situation worse.

Im one person who has had an extraordinary amount of stress in the past 2 years for a multitude of reasons, and my mother is adamant that my joint problems, back problems, and other ailments are all as a result of stress.

Am starting to pick myself up now, and i think its all about mindset and dealing with the problem at hand. Every problem is different and needs to be tackled in a positive but detached manner.

What is it, in particular that is stressing you out?

I realised that my main cause of stress was not the tasks at hand , but my perfectionist but procrastinating attitude. I was putting things off, but yet when they were done i wanted them perfect. It created a whole load of problems and im learning to become an anitcrastinator now as well as setting myself realistic goals.

If you would care to explain the problem any further, i'll try to offer what impartial advice i can
