exercise exercise exercise! exercise releases endorphins into the body…endorphins are a natural pain killer and helps relax the muscles.

someone also told me that soaking in the tub helps them release stress.

prayer helps relieve stress as well. :k:

re: Stress Awareness Month: Stress Solutions

3 years ago, I was majorly stressed due to some close family situations and financial troubles. I just passed my day staying busy with household chores and couldn't wait for the night where I could hide in my bed and pretend there was no tomorrow. I was also pregnant with my second daughter.

Then one day I realized that it would be very hard to remain that way so I made a conscious decision to overcome what was bothering me.

I took control of all the negative influences and detached myself from them as much as possible. And the rest I truly left on Allah.

3 years later, we are blessed with a smooth and stable life.

The key is to first acknowldge that you are stressed, then to identify the source(s) of your stress and then to eliminate them slowly by taking control or removing yourself from them.

Angel eyes and Niksik - You both are right.

Exercise does helps. I have just stopped going to the gym and need to be more proactive - no excuses.

Praying also helps.

There are some stresses that you cannot remove yourself from but I think it's better to just get away and not to overthink it.

Sometimes it just helps to stay busy and focussed on something else.

Re: Stress Awareness Month: Stress Solutions

I find the deep breathing technique quite useful to relieve stress and also help me sleep. Its so simple too.

Use the lying down position (its the easiest)

Inhale slowly and deeply...observe that as you inhale, your stomach should expand. This allows the diaphragm and therefore the lungs to also expand an so you can take a deeper breath. (Our normal breathing is actually incorrect where we suck in the stomach when inhaling....just watch a baby breathing when it is asleep...thats the way we should be breathing too)

Hold the breath for couple of counts

Exhale deeply and slowly...now the stomach should be pulled inwards which pushes the diaphragm and the lungs to help expel all the air.

Hold the breath for a couple of counts

Repeat the cycle.

Start off with about 2-3 cycles and then increase as you feel comfortable.

Initially you can place a small pillow on your stomach to make sure you are breathing correctly.

Its great way to ease your tension and you may even feel sleepy during or straight after the technique
