Stress and tension = crazy?

Can a person really seriously like become crazy from stress and tension? I’ve been going through some hard times lately watching someone else suffer and be helpless before his circumstances and I feel it taking a toll on my physical health, but more so on my mental health. I get severe headaches and feel like all this is gonna trigger the onset of a panic attack or just make me lose my mind… im constantly crying and worrying and just upset… overworking my mind trying to find a solution, but all it does is make me feel crappier.

How much does one need to go through realistically to actually go crazy and what can be done to calm oneself down other than praying and meditating?
