It seems hard to believe but guys in the gym and martial artists as a group are the most peace-loving, laid back bunch of pacifists that I have ever come across.
Does training make people laid-back? Does it give them more self-control? Does it take out the aggression from their lives?
It makes one release the stress and stress is one factor that makes people very hyper. So, I guess that is the reason. What is your own understanding, arshad?
arshad5,
no, it must be about slf discipline. as part of one of the informal mentoring for youth and to offer them a skill, i have hired a very well trained Martial Arts trainter and his group of martial arts teenagers is becoming very disciplined.
it must be a part of learning self-defense - being disciplined even in hitting or confronting to get out of a risky situation.

I think that is one factor. But then you have people like some boxers who are very cocky or arrogant. So I guess there is more to it than just that.

Yes I guess you have to be very disciplined in order to train regularly and I guess self-defence does give you the confidence to deal with a situation without panicing, so you are more likely to exercise self control over yourself.
Also you see people of all shapes and sizes and know you cannot judge their fighting capabilities just by looking at them through experience.
i've heard or probably read it somewhere that if ure stressed out...only two things you can do to overcome..one being having sex and another being working out.
strange thing that i find people believing in is that they think the more muscle mass one has..the less harm they'll get when in fight. This is ridiculous..i've actually came across some naive people who literally punch as hard as they can on my bicep and delt area and then they ask me whether or not it hurt... if i say it does..they think i use some kinds of drugs to enhance muscle growth ..because what they think is that...u're not suppose to have pain when someone hits you... :D
Very nicely pin-pointed in regards to self-discipline and control. It is everything of these two that encompasses a person to limit his/her feelings in a controlled environment. It gives you a type of confidence, something which you have also mentioned, Arshad:
Furthermore, as FrozenFire mentioned, the more stressed a person’s mind and body is, the more enjoyable and determined a workout it is. Compare your stressful days of working out to the days when you work-out with less stress (and with a peaceful state of mind), it is a world of difference in how much energy you release just by doing an extra set or knocking out another 15 minutes at the treadmill.

I believe training helps promote self confidence. It also relieves stress and makes one feel more at ease.
