Strange thing at Karachi Airport

On Sunday we were catching a flight that stopped in Karachi (but we stayed onboard) and after all the Karachi passengers had gotten off the plane the cabin crew opened all the overhead baggage lockers and asked us to claim which bits of baggage belonged to us, we had to physically take it all down and say it was ours then afterwards put it all back up there again.. Has this happened to anyone else? Was thinking there might had been a terror tip-off..

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

One time going to Karachi from Doha Via Peshawar we were asked to check if our luggage not hand carry in overhead compartments but the actual luggage is not missing. The luggage of all passengers was placed out side the plane on the runway . . . :@: it was a machli bazar experience :chai:

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

**it once happened to me too. i was in Kuwait. we boarded the plane and then we were asked to walked down the staircase on to the tarmac and identify our bags that were laid out there. its called matching the passengers with their bags.

its a bit inconvenient but its better to be safe than be sorry later.

did i tell you that it was 50 degrees in Kuwait that day. :(**

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

:hehe: at Peshawar it was almost 0 degree that morning :@:

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

once i remember i left India and the temp there was PLUS 25 degrees Celsius and when i landed at Toronto it was MINUS 25 degrees Celsius. it was awesome to have experienced extreme weather change [50 degrees Celsius] within 16 hours.

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

this has nothing to do with terror. they might be doing it to double check/ confirm that the passengers who are getting off at karachi have actually took all their belongings with them, before the plan leaves for the next destination. some passenger may have complained that their baggage is missing.

this once happened with me also, exactly what khalil khan and malik zulfi mentioned, nothing specific about karachi airport.

:omg:

No :vivo:

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

I've experienced that too. Was in the UK, it was a cold summer so temperatures were hovering around 4-5, got out of Dubai airport and the blast of hot air made me swoon and I got a bit disoriented. It was 45+ in Dubai.

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

**yep...i know what u felt like. just imagine if u left middle east with temps over 45+ and landed in one of Canada's coldest cities like Edmon, Winnepeg or Yellowknife with temperature around Minus 35 degrees Celsius...burrrrrrr.....add windchil factor of another 10-15 degrees to that.

its quite conceivable to see a difference in temperature of over 100 degrees in a span of say 20 hours.**

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

recently when i came from KSA was waiting for my luggage n soon they turned off the belt n said sir saman to khtam hogaya :frowning: my all saman left behind :bummer:

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

It happens frequently when ;
A- Passengers check-in at counter and head towards the 'Boarding Gates'
B- At boarding time they show/surrender a portion of the boarding pass to board the aircraft ( At this point the Passengers Baggage is 'Released for Boarding the Plane as well' in theory.
C-Guarantees that your baggage arrives "with You" at the destination.

Passengers who report 'late' for check-in have more chances of their baggage being left behind and to follow on a later flight.

Passengers who have 'Strong smelly items' in their luggage also stand the risk for their baggage to arrive on later flight. Security would 'Hold' such luggage for 'Cool-Off period' or physical inspection breaking locks etc. Elelctronic devices with batteries emitting electro pulses graded as 'suspicious item' are also 'held over' ,, and there are few hundred other reasons as well,,,,

Always Travel Smart and Light ! :D

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

this sort of thing has happened several times......not uncommon in the middle-east and south asia...

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

did u get it later?

Re: Strange thing at Karachi Airport

This happens some times during flights that stop in transit and not all the passengers leave the plane plus some new passengers have to come in. In that kind of situation, they just ask you to identify your bags to make sure that no one has forgotten any thing in plane. Definitely nothing to do with the terror tip-off :-)

A funny situation i faced once at Dubai airport was that we were ready to leave for ISB and some passenger on the back seats of the plane stood up and started reciting something in arabic. Interestingly, there was no crew member on that flight who could speak Urdu and i dont know what else happened which forced them to ask every body to go out of the plane leaving our hand baggage inside. Whole plane was then searched and they let us go after hours long delay (plus that man was taken off by the security).
