I am looking for a good straightening iron. I have heard rave reviews about CHI and i remember it being mentioned in threads here before. Now, i have wavy hair and not extremely curly like some people have so not sure if i need something of that high power. I have tried a couple different brands. The one from Conair sucks but Wigo (Jade) is pretty good.
I need to invest in a good iron and money wise, i can spend about 150-200 bucks to buy something that would last me a while and give great results. I am confused about irons with stone plates versus ceramic ones.
Please share your experiences with the various brands out there and help me figure out why stone or ceramic (or any other material for that matter) is better than the other.
A ton of people from my work use a straightener called Kamashi and it uses tourmaline. It is about $80 in Canada. A lot of people with really really thick hair have used it and their hair looks amazing. Sorry I can't give my own testimonial, I'm still liking my wavy hair for now.
Here's some info that the lady at my work who sells it provides:
Tourmaline is a precious stone that possesses unique ionic and infrared properties. Tourmaline generates 400% more negative ions than regular ceramic.
Why are negative ions important when using a hair iron?
Negative ions close the cuticle layer to create smooth, silky hair and seal in the hair's natural moisture. This provides ultimate shine, control and moisture protection for your hair. Negative ions also eliminate static electricity on the hair surface so that your hair is left silky and frizz-free.
Why buy this and not the others?
Adjustable temperature control to adjust the temperature to the desired level that's right for your hair. Ladies with various hair type - thick or thin.

Salaam..ceramic is the best. Remember to put in some sort of leave-in conditioner in ur hair, then blow dry it, make sure its comp. dry and use the straightener
if u have rather thick hair, i'd recommend the GHD.. its a bit expensive but its well worth the money. You can get the thin plate one (which allows u to even curl ur hair) or the wide plate one... i like the wide one cus i can create long flicks in my hair and curl them too if i want..
^ u know the ghd actually works really good on damp hair too... i totally love it.. i used to have a remington but it never worked in my hair... mines thick though and curly
Thank you for the response ladies, i really appreciate the input.
I was looking at reviews for GHD at amazon.co.uk and it seems like a lot of people had experienced burnt hair. Does that mean all of them were using it incorrectly? I would love to use this once in a while but dont want to damage my hair.
^ ive been using mine since jan and ive not experienced burnt hair at all! but then again im pregnant and for some reason my hair has gone all healthy...
seriously though, ive not had any bad experience using it...
hmmm well i use isinis' ceramix' digital ceramic flat iron.. with tourmaline

but it's amazingg.. heats up in seconds n gets the job done in well .. minutes, but i love it!
I m using CHi since a long time now..it will under your range and works awesomly!...but i m not sure bout the damage it causes to hair.. ofcourse every hot iron or product will cause damage to hair but i m not sure which ones causes the least!
