So thanks to my vacation a few weeks ago…my Chi blew out. I’ve had my 1" Chi Turbo for 4-5 years (the old version where the temp control is on the side). No issues. Took it overseas…worked fine in Indonesia…blew out in Singapore.
I have wavy fine hair that gets frizzy. I straighten it 2-3x/week. I have no complaints about the Chi. HOWEVER, I’ve also read great reviews on GHD.
So anyone here have experience with both of these? Should I stick to Chi or try the ghd? Also, I believe the basic ghd model doesn’t have temp control. Would that work or do I really need to go for the one with temp control?
I have never use the chi but I am ohhh so satisfied with my ghd!!!! Doesn't have temp control though and I don't think you need it. Works on any type of hair. Almost all salons in Pakistan use the thicker plates one ghd
I have fine hair that's wavy and I really don't like GHDs for my own hair. I need temp control because too hot just makes my hair *too *straight, flat and lifeless.
I use a Remington with teflon plates and temp control, it’s a few years old now and they are constantly bringing out new ones. In the past, I’ve usually just checked the reviews on the sites of some big stores and get whichever one at least 4.5/5 average over lots of reviews on different sites. It’s also worth reading them as many people have the same issues with GHDs and they generally comment on whether X straightener is better for finer hair or not.
I looooooove my GHDs
My cousin lives in the US and I’ve used her Chi straightners too.. They seemed pretty similar, but felt GHDs still give a smoother result in my case
I went to Ulta today and saw the ghd's, babybliss, sedu, and chi's. With ghd, unfortunately they were out of the one that has temp. control. Since I have fine hair, I'd feel much more comfy. sticking with one that has this feature. I didn't like the weight of the babybliss. I ended up getting a Sedu. Looks like they got great reviews on folica. I'll give this a few tries in the next 2-3 weeks. If this doesn't make me 100% happy....I return and try to get the ghd. :)
I had a Chi before I got the Sedu and the difference is night and day for my hair. I was actually thinking about getting the ghd as well because there was a great deal on Folica last week but it slipped my mind, so I have to wait until their next great sale :D
I've not used Chi but I have a GHD (I used to have a Remington one before that, and a Mark Hill one), but to be honest I prefer the GHDs.
I've heard of ones called Cloud Nine which are apparently made by the same people who made GHD, but these are more hair-friendly cost they work on a lower heat settings, which I wanna try out one day
I just never got on with GHDs. When they first came out, I borrowed my friends for a trial. Then about a year ago I bought a pair but returned them after a few days.
ok so I used the Sedu for the 1st time today. Hair looks just like it did before when I used Chi. But here’s the problem. When I was straightening it…after each swipe…there was steam coming from the iron! Why? I had blow dried my hair & then used the Sedu almost 2 hours later. I sprayed Aquage spray on it BEFORE I blow dried it. No other product. This is the same thing I’ve done when using the Chi MANY times and never saw steam. Oh and I had the Sedu temp. set at 350.
I got the 20% Ulta coupon so either I’m keeping the Sedu & getting the price adjusted OR returning it and getting ghd …either way need to figure out something within the next week or so (I believe the coupon expires on Feb. 1).
^That is so weird. I put a little bit of product in my hair before straightening and I have never experienced that. Was there a smell? Maybe it was too hot for your hair?
Get the Cloud nine straighteners. They are from the makers of Ghd. My hairdresser told me that Ghd started making straighteners pretty, while cloud nine went into improving technology. I have a ghd myself, but tried the cloud nine at the salon.. world of difference. I have thick wavy hair, and live in a very humid climate. I don't put any product in my hair, cos the humidity will do it for you, but the cloud nine was definately a stand out. Im pretty sure its around the same price as a ghd
Sedu users: Which one do you guys use? The 1st time I got the Pro Ionic. That’s the one the steamed for whatever reason (but straightened GREAT). I forgot to mention earlier but it also snagged the hair a bit.
I went today and got the Sedu Revolution. Figured I’ll give this a try tomorrow when I wash my hair. Once again they were out of the ghd that has temperature control. The ladies giving thoughts on ghd…which specific one do you guys use?
That Ulta 20% coupon valid this weekend only so I’d LOVE to figure this out by then. Return what I don’t want and get price adjusted on the keeper.
