[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’] Episode 6
In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful
Welcome to the 6th episode from “Parables of the Qur’an” Part II. Let’s live with Musa (AS[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’)) (Moses), love him and see his choices and faithfulness to carrying the message.
Now let us begin with our episode today. In fact, Prophet Musa (AS) was grown up in the house of Pharaoh; however, he knew the truth that he was not not the son of Pharaoh nor Assia and that he was the son of the nurse and one of the poor people of Israelites. Nevertheless, all Egypt knew him as Musa the prince. In addition, Assia told him that she was not his mother but she did not know that the nurse was his true mother. Here, Musa (AS) had to choose.
We come to the lesson of today’s episode, Life is Choices. We all have to choose and Allah (SWT) has given us the free will of choice. That is the reason why Allah (SWT) does not like any one to disable the freedom He has given to his servants.
In fact, the ability of choosing the right choice does not apply only on religoius choices, but also on wordly ones. Some people do not know how to choose; others leave life to choose for them; while others bring some people to choose for them.
Look at Musa (AS) and his choice. Think about the vast space between Musa the prince inside the Pharaoh’s palace with all its ornaments, money, not to mention the suits, servants, soldiers, and so on, and the poor houses of Israelites on the Nile banks, who are needy and persecuted. What will you choose O Musa?!
It’s all about the right choice. Prophet Muhammad (SAWS[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’)) ordered us not to be followers imitating the people in whatever they do. The Prophet (SAWS) advised us to think and decide ourselves. A choice may take you to the highest places in the heavens of eternity, and a choice may lead you astray. What do you want? Think and choose proprely.
Musa (AS) had already chosen. He decided to be on the side of the Israelites to help them and be their patron and supporter even though he was not sent as a Messenger yet. At that time, he was only 30 years old and he became a prophet when he was 40; so he was not a prophet yet, but just a monothiest man who loved Allah (SWT) and hated injustice.
After Musa (AS) had set up his mind, Allah (SWT) put him to a test to examine his decision, especially that the Israelites talked among themselves that Musa was on Pharaoh’s side after all. That is why Allah (SWT) wanted to settle an absolute exapmle, for clearing everything; consequently he would absolutey be with them and not with Pharaoh.
Allah (SWT) said what can be translated as, "And he entered the city at a time while its population were (in a state of) heedlessness. Then he found therein two men fighting, the one of his (own) sect and the other (Literally: this) of his enemy. Then the one who was of his sect asked him for succor against him who was of his enemy; then Mûsa (Moses) punched him (and) so made an end of him. He said, “This is of Ash-Shaytan’s (Ash-Shaytan= the ever-vicious “one”, i.e., the Devil) doing; surely he is an evidently misleading enemy.” (TMQ, 28:15). Why did he enter the city while people were in a state of heedlessness? That was a sign that Musa (AS) wanted to see the Israelites without the knowledge of Pharaoh.
Moreover, he had followers and supporters even though he was not revealed a prophet yet. This is because he was working against injustice. All what I want to tell you here is if you witness injustice, stand with the weak. Be fair.
It is clear that the other man (the Egyptian) who was hitting the Israelite man, was not an ordinary Egyptian; he held a whip and hit that man. By the way, do not think that Egyptians were the enemies of Musa as many people may think. Egyptians were one of three: either believed in him, or defended him even though they did not believe in him like the man we will see today, or a third part who used to watch only.
In addition, when Musa (AS) punched that man, he killed him unintentionally, immediately sought refuge from Satan, and said that this was from the work of Satan due to the fact that he was not aware of the issue very well. Allah (SWT) said what can be translated as, “He said, “Lord! Surely I have done (an) injustice to myself; so forgive me!” Then Allah) forgave him; surely He, Ever He, is The Ever-Forgiving, The Ever-Merciful”(TMQ, 28:16).
After that, Allah (SWT) told us the speech of Musa which can be translated as, "He said, “Lord! For as much as You have favored me, then I will never be a backer of the criminals, So he became frightened in the city and on the watch. Then, only then, the man who had asked his vindication on the day before screamed to him (for help). Mûsa said to him, “Surely you are indeed an evidently misguided (fellow).” (TMQ, 28:17-18). Allah (SWT) wanted Musa (AS) to experience the feeling of terror because if he was to lead the Israelites against injustice, he had to feel what they had been experiencing; especially that he was in top security while he was in Pharaoh’s palace.
Then, the same man who was supported by Musa (AS), asked help again in another trouble, which angered Musa (AS) who described that man being misguided since that man wanted to solve the problem of his people by making troubles.
Afterwards, Allah (SWT) said what can be translated as, "Then, as soon as he would have assaulted (the man) who was an enemy to them both, (the man) said, “O M*ûsa, would you like to kill me as you killed a person (Literally: a self) yesterday? Decidedly you would like to be nothing except a potentate in the land, and in no way would you like to be one of the reformers.” (i.e., the righteous-doers). (TMQ, 28:19). By that accident, that man from the Israelites thought that Musa wanted to attack him, so he exposed Musa (AS) being the one who killed the man earlier.
Actually, Musa (AS) learned from this accident that not all the Israelites were faithful people; some of them are trouble-makers and others are not good believers. Hence, generalization is wrong. Allah (SWT) says what can be translated as, “And of the people of Mûsa (Moses) there is a nation who guide with the truth, and by it do with justice…And We cut them up into twelve Grandsons, (i.e., tribes). nations” (TMQ, 7:159).
Musa (AS) stayed in distress because firstly he was described from the Israeli man a potentate in the land, secondly the terror of what may happen next after the disclosure of the Egyptian partisan of Pharaoh.
After that, the man arrived the palace of Pharaoh, he found him heading a council of close counsels trying to think of who might be the killer. Then he told them that the killer is Musa. The Pharaoh started to see everything that Musa (AS) was the son of the nurse. In fact, people talked about that because of visiting Musa this woman frequently. He wondered how he was the one who brought Musa (AS) up and taught him and he went to support the Israelites. Imagine the wrath that overwhelmed the Pharaoh; therefore, he ordered that Musa (AS) must be killed. This takes us to the certainty to Allah (SWT) who is the One who decides the destiny of everything. If Allah (SWT) does not predestine killing someone, no power on earth can kill him, and He has all the subsistence.
Afterwards, as Allah (SWT) said what can be translated as, “And (there) came from the remotest part of the city a man going speedily. He said, “O my people, closely follow the Emissaries!” (TMQ, 36:20). This man is mentioned to be one of the believers. He was one of the close counsels in the palace and I think when there was a talk about what to do with Musa, he might have voted for killing him because not all people can choose the right choice publicly, but when they can, they do it.
Today’s lesson is the right choice. When Musa (AS) chose backing the weak, Allah (SWT) sent a man to him to save him. O people the goodness never goes in vain.
Choose wisely in your life and know that if the nation come together to benefit or hurt you, they can only do what Allah (SWT) has predestined. Depend on Allah (SWT) and choose properly in your life.

[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftnref1/’) The word Allah is the Arabic term for God. Although the use of the word “Allah” is most often associated with Islam, it is not used exclusively by Muslims; Arab Christians and Arabic-speaking Jews also use it to refer to the One God. The Arabic word expresses the unique characteristics of the One God more precisely than the English term. Whereas the word “Allah” has no plural form in Arabic, the English form does. Allah is the God worshipped by all Prophets, from Adam to Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad.
