[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]Our program this year is called “Parables of the Qur’an”. We will spend 30 episodes with the longest story in the Qur’an, constituting one quarter of it. Many chapters in the Qur’an dealt with this story in detail, like Surat al-Qasas, Surat Taha, Surat ash-Shu’ara, Surat al-A’raf, and Surat al-Baqara. This year we offer you an opportunity to understand almost the quarter of the Noble Qur’an. Therefore, our neyyah as well our slogan this year is “to live by the Qur’an“. We need to understand, feel, and love the Noble Qur’an. We need to apply it to our daily life. This is our main goal this year and we ask Allah (SWT) to help us achieve it. Hence, we have an idea that will help us achieve this goal. We thought of launching a campaign promoting our slogan “We will live by the Qur’an” targeting to get 10 million thorough reads of the Noble Qur’an done. You will find an electronic counter on www.amrkhaled.net counting the number of your completed recitations and also there is a sticker that you can print out and post everywhere in order to remind yourself of the goal of the campaign “to live by the Qur‘an”.

[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]This year, we will continue with Part II of last year’s program “Parables of the Qur’an”. This is our first time to spread two years for the same theme. This is due to its importance. A lot of people say that they did not understand the Qur’an when they read it. Allah (SWT) chose storytelling as a practical and easy way for us to understand the great thoughts in the Qur’an. For this reason, stories constitute around one third of the Qur’an. This year we will tackle the longest story in the Noble Qur’an. It is the story of Musa (AS) (Moses) and the people of Israel. This story is mentioned in 50 chapters out of the 114 that constitute the whole Qur’an. Musa (AS) was mentioned 136 times in the Qur’an surpassing all other prophets. He is very distinguished and prominent among the prophets as he spoke directly to Allah (SWT). One of our aims in this program is to let you feel the love towards Musa (AS). Allah (SWT) said about Musa (AS) what can be translated as, **“Said He, ‘O Mûsa! Surely I have elected you above mankind for My Messages and for My Words (to you) …’” (TMQ, 7:144), and what can be translated as, “And I cast on you belovedness from Me, and to be worked out under My Eye (i.e., to be chosen for my Revelation)." (TMQ, 20:39), **and, “And I had you worked out for Myself.” (TMQ, 20:41).

[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]The story of Musa (AS)is very rich and full of values. We will live with it for 30 episodes. The story consists of four consecutive parts, with four stages that took place in four countries: Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Palestine. Let us approach the very beginning of the story. The story begins in the year 1200 B.C. The World then was totally different than that we live in nowadays. It consisted of only Africa and Asia, and Egypt was the center of civilization, culture, power, and fortune. It was endowed with very prominent and unique scholars and scientists in mummification, chemistry, painting, architect and many other fields. However, Egypt lacked two very important things, namely, true belief and justice. This is why this story is repeated many times in the Qur’an; these are the main bases upon which any reform is built.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]The hero of our story was sent mainly for these two things. He was the hero of freedom and justice; he was the defender of the poor. At that time, Egypt had two kinds of people: the extremely rich and the extremely poor. The former had all rights and pleasures while the latter were deprived of all rights as if they were slaves. They were named as the “People of Israel” and they lived in caves around the banks of River Nile. “Bra’ Ramses” was capital of Egypt as well the whole world. Its pharaonic name means “the house of the god Ramses”. Our hero was born and brought up there. People were living around the banks of the Nile either in palaces or in poor caves. In one of those caves lived a poor pregnant lady with two children (a son and daughter) and a husband named Imran. The small girl was called Mariam and the boy was Harun (Aaron). The mother was pregnant and was to deliver a baby after some time.

[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]In a gloomy night while all were asleep, once of a sudden the silence was broken with the terrible screams of a lady. The people woke up and ran after the screams that came from one of the caves of the people of Israel. They found that some soldiers on carriages were running with a knife full of blood. People are gathered around that cave and found a lady crying. The lady informed them that those soldiers broke into her house and took her two month old baby boy, killed him, and then left. The mother was shocked as well all the people who heard this. People inquired about the reason and who was it behind that crime. They wondered if they could go to the pharaoh and inform him but they were afraid of getting additional mischief. Here appears the first characteristic in this year’s parable: humility.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]This incident recurred after a week but this time the mother gave birth to twins, a baby boy and a baby girl. The weird thing in this case was that the soldiers killed the boy and left the girl. They even told the mother that they were given orders not to kill a baby girl. In the third week, the incident was repeated again but this time the difference was that after the baby boy was killed, they tossed him in the Nile. After a month, the number of the boys killed became 10 in 10 caves for 10 mothers. It is very odd that those people who faced this inhumane treatment are now killing the children of Palestine in the same way. The people were wondering if that was a sort of a planned crime or if there was a mad soldier, for instance, behind all this. Furthermore, they doubted why Allah (SWT)allowed all this mischief to take place and did not defend or interfere to protect them. Maybe you have the same thinking in your minds right now.

[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]The story of Musa (AS) is full of morals and values. In each episode, we will highlight one of them and try to develop it in ourselves. Today’s moral is to awaken your natural disposition. This is the seed of truth that Allah (SWT) implanted within each of us. This is Allah’s natural seal in every human heart. It is a sensor He created inside our souls that feels comfort whenever you come closer to the truth and feels restlessness and anger whenever you come closer to injustice and brutality until you overcome it. Allah (SWT) did not interfere with this brutality so as to give the way to the miraculous natural disposition inside us to overcome and settle the injustice. If Allah (SWT) had interfered with His miraculous revenge, then there would have been no need for the natural disposition inside us to reform. Allah wants us to awaken our natural disposition against violence. What happened to the people of Israel allowed their conscience and heart to wake up for the first time. This is the beginning of the story, the beginning of a way of dignity.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]The message of today is to awaken your natural disposition. When people of Israel started to wake up, Allah(SWT)rewarded them by sending someone to defend their rights, someone who had a strong natural disposition. This man was Musa (AS), a very distinguished prophet. He was the one who was elected by Allah (SWT)over mankind for His messages and His direct speech. He faced so many obstacles and difficulties that Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) mentioned him as a unique example of facing and handling difficulties.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]Now it is time to ask yourselves: do you have an awakened natural disposition? It simply appears in your attitude when approaching truth and when witnessing injustice. See how the people of Israel were too afraid even to complain to the pharaoh. Try to ask yourself where you stand in the range between the attitude of Musa (AS)and that of the people of Israel. This is today’s question. Please visit www.amrkhaled.net where you will find a questionnaire that you can fill to find out how awakened your natural disposition is.

[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]Thank you and see you tomorrow to continue the story of Musa (AS).
