[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]this is translation to a great programm in arabic , that mr amr khaled present this ramadan, i copy it for u , its the story that we read much in quran , about the prophet Mussa:

episode 1 :
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]Our program this year is called “Parables of the Qur’an”. We will spend 30 episodes with the longest story in the Qur’an, constituting one quarter of it. Many chapters in the Qur’an dealt with this story in detail, like Surat al-Qasas, Surat Taha, Surat ash-Shu’ara, Surat al-A’raf, and Surat al-Baqara. This year we offer you an opportunity to understand almost the quarter of the Noble Qur’an. Therefore, our neyyah as well our slogan this year is “to live by the Qur’an“. We need to understand, feel, and love the Noble Qur’an. We need to apply it to our daily life. This is our main goal this year and we ask Allah (SWT) to help us achieve it. Hence, we have an idea that will help us achieve this goal. We thought of launching a campaign promoting our slogan “We will live by the Qur’an” targeting to get 10 million thorough reads of the Noble Qur’an done. You will find an electronic counter on www.amrkhaled.net counting the number of your completed recitations and also there is a sticker that you can print out and post everywhere in order to remind yourself of the goal of the campaign “to live by the Qur‘an”.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]This year, we will continue with Part II of last year’s program “Parables of the Qur’an”. This is our first time to spread two years for the same theme. This is due to its importance. A lot of people say that they did not understand the Qur’an when they read it. Allah (SWT) chose storytelling as a practical and easy way for us to understand the great thoughts in the Qur’an. For this reason, stories constitute around one third of the Qur’an. This year we will tackle the longest story in the Noble Qur’an. It is the story of Musa (AS) (Moses) and the people of Israel. This story is mentioned in 50 chapters out of the 114 that constitute the whole Qur’an. Musa (AS) was mentioned 136 times in the Qur’an surpassing all other prophets. He is very distinguished and prominent among the prophets as he spoke directly to Allah (SWT). One of our aims in this program is to let you feel the love towards Musa (AS). Allah (SWT) said about Musa (AS) what can be translated as, **“Said He, ‘O Mûsa! Surely I have elected you above mankind for My Messages and for My Words (to you) …’” (TMQ, 7:144), and what can be translated as, “And I cast on you belovedness from Me, and to be worked out under My Eye (i.e., to be chosen for my Revelation)." (TMQ, 20:39), **and, “And I had you worked out for Myself.” (TMQ, 20:41).
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]The story of Musa (AS)is very rich and full of values. We will live with it for 30 episodes. The story consists of four consecutive parts, with four stages that took place in four countries: Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Palestine. Let us approach the very beginning of the story. The story begins in the year 1200 B.C. The World then was totally different than that we live in nowadays. It consisted of only Africa and Asia, and Egypt was the center of civilization, culture, power, and fortune. It was endowed with very prominent and unique scholars and scientists in mummification, chemistry, painting, architect and many other fields. However, Egypt lacked two very important things, namely, true belief and justice. This is why this story is repeated many times in the Qur’an; these are the main bases upon which any reform is built.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]The hero of our story was sent mainly for these two things. He was the hero of freedom and justice; he was the defender of the poor. At that time, Egypt had two kinds of people: the extremely rich and the extremely poor. The former had all rights and pleasures while the latter were deprived of all rights as if they were slaves. They were named as the “People of Israel” and they lived in caves around the banks of River Nile. “Bra’ Ramses” was capital of Egypt as well the whole world. Its pharaonic name means “the house of the god Ramses”. Our hero was born and brought up there. People were living around the banks of the Nile either in palaces or in poor caves. In one of those caves lived a poor pregnant lady with two children (a son and daughter) and a husband named Imran. The small girl was called Mariam and the boy was Harun (Aaron). The mother was pregnant and was to deliver a baby after some time.

[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]In a gloomy night while all were asleep, once of a sudden the silence was broken with the terrible screams of a lady. The people woke up and ran after the screams that came from one of the caves of the people of Israel. They found that some soldiers on carriages were running with a knife full of blood. People are gathered around that cave and found a lady crying. The lady informed them that those soldiers broke into her house and took her two month old baby boy, killed him, and then left. The mother was shocked as well all the people who heard this. People inquired about the reason and who was it behind that crime. They wondered if they could go to the pharaoh and inform him but they were afraid of getting additional mischief. Here appears the first characteristic in this year’s parable: humility.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]This incident recurred after a week but this time the mother gave birth to twins, a baby boy and a baby girl. The weird thing in this case was that the soldiers killed the boy and left the girl. They even told the mother that they were given orders not to kill a baby girl. In the third week, the incident was repeated again but this time the difference was that after the baby boy was killed, they tossed him in the Nile. After a month, the number of the boys killed became 10 in 10 caves for 10 mothers. It is very odd that those people who faced this inhumane treatment are now killing the children of Palestine in the same way. The people were wondering if that was a sort of a planned crime or if there was a mad soldier, for instance, behind all this. Furthermore, they doubted why Allah (SWT)allowed all this mischief to take place and did not defend or interfere to protect them. Maybe you have the same thinking in your minds right now.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]The story of Musa (AS) is full of morals and values. In each episode, we will highlight one of them and try to develop it in ourselves. Today’s moral is to awaken your natural disposition. This is the seed of truth that Allah (SWT) implanted within each of us. This is Allah’s natural seal in every human heart. It is a sensor He created inside our souls that feels comfort whenever you come closer to the truth and feels restlessness and anger whenever you come closer to injustice and brutality until you overcome it. Allah (SWT) did not interfere with this brutality so as to give the way to the miraculous natural disposition inside us to overcome and settle the injustice. If Allah (SWT) had interfered with His miraculous revenge, then there would have been no need for the natural disposition inside us to reform. Allah wants us to awaken our natural disposition against violence. What happened to the people of Israel allowed their conscience and heart to wake up for the first time. This is the beginning of the story, the beginning of a way of dignity.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]The message of today is to awaken your natural disposition. When people of Israel started to wake up, Allah(SWT)rewarded them by sending someone to defend their rights, someone who had a strong natural disposition. This man was Musa (AS), a very distinguished prophet. He was the one who was elected by Allah (SWT)over mankind for His messages and His direct speech. He faced so many obstacles and difficulties that Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) mentioned him as a unique example of facing and handling difficulties.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]Now it is time to ask yourselves: do you have an awakened natural disposition? It simply appears in your attitude when approaching truth and when witnessing injustice. See how the people of Israel were too afraid even to complain to the pharaoh. Try to ask yourself where you stand in the range between the attitude of Musa (AS)and that of the people of Israel. This is today’s question. Please visit www.amrkhaled.net where you will find a questionnaire that you can fill to find out how awakened your natural disposition is.
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]
[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’]Thank you and see you tomorrow to continue the story of Musa (AS).

Episode 2
In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), the All-Merciful, the Ever-Merciful. Peace and blessings of Allah be upon His prophet Muhammad. I’d like to again stress our motto “Living by the Qur’an." This is actually the name of our online campaign this Ramadan. It basically aims to get 10 million thorough reads of the Qur’an this month by our viewers. Our web counters are on and you can sign up for the campaign and spread the word as well. The Qur’an for life; its morals and sovereign values are what we’re aiming to live by. Prophet Muhammad (SAWS[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’)) advised us to read and contemplate the Qur’an seeking forgiveness on the Day of Judgment and learning the substantial values it preaches for our everyday life.
One of these values has everything to do with our story for today. Our lesson is to never be an ally to an unjust might and never be the reason the poor and the weak are denied their rights, be them mothers, orphans, wives, servants or even low ranking employees. Picture the oppressed watching you rip them off their rights and the sound of their prayer asking for justice. Fear Allah’s inevitable vengeance.
This Ramadan, if forgiveness is what you’re aiming at, then make sure you are being unjust to no-one, not only to people at work or strangers but also among your family. Have you insulted your wife recently? When was the last time you beat your child? Allah (TWT[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’)) says what can translated as, “Then an announcer will announce between them, ‘The curse of Allah be on the unjust.’’’ [TMQ[4], 7:44]. He also says what can be translated as, “Sure it is that the unjust will not prosper.’’ [TMQ, 6:21]. And, “Surely We have readied for the unjust a Fire whose canopy encompasses them; and in case they call for succor, they will be succored with water like molten metal that will scald their faces. Miserable is the drink, and odious is it (as) a resting place!” [TMQ 18:29].
Now, we’re telling the story of Musa (AS[5]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn5/’)) (Moses). Allah teaches us the value of justice and how distorting oppression could be to a man’s soul. In this story we’re introduced to a mighty pharaoh who put up a new law allowing the killing of male infants born of Israelis in his kingdom. After killing one thousand babies, the Israelites were still too scared to complain! There must have been a reason for the pharaoh’s decision and for their meek reaction; there must have been someone they’ve oppressed one day for the cycle of oppression to turn back on them like so.
Before we pick up where we stopped yesterday, I’d like to start with a historical background on Musa (AS). Musa (AS) was the third son of Ukabed[6]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn6/’) and Imran son of Levi brother of Yusuf (AS) (Joseph). Both Levi and Yusuf were the sons of old Ya’qub (AS) (Jacob). Musa (AS) and the Israelites of Egypt were believers; however, Egypt was never their hometown. The story of how the Israelites settled in Egypt dates back 400 years from the time of Musa (AS). It all started with Yusuf (AS), the first Israeli to reach Egypt as a toddler and be brought up in the king’s palace. Yusuf was born with the gift of interpretation of dreams; he foresaw in one of the king’s dreams the seven-year famine and thus the country was able to take precautions for the drought beforehand.
Afterwards, Yusuf’s insight and wisdom were appreciated all over the palace. They were also desperately needed through the world financial crisis that troubled the pharaoh of Egypt at that time. The pharaoh was in fact a Hyksos[7]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn7/’) king who was desperate to find a talented financial minister to guide Egypt through the crisis; however, no help was to be hoped for from an Egyptian because the Egyptians hated the unjust Hyksos and their cruel reign. Therefore, Yusuf (AS) stepped up and the pharaoh was anxious to help a non-Egyptian attain social rank. The Hyksos were very prejudiced and very cruel and unjust to the Egyptians. It may seem that Yusuf (AS) joined the oppressor’s side, but actually Yusuf (AS) used his power to proclaim all people equals and ease the hatred between the Hyksos and the Egyptians. He set up a single trade law that the two parties had to abide by. Justice was finally being delivered and Egypt survived the financial crisis under Yusuf’s guidance.

Yusuf was known as the greatest financial minister who ever lived and was beloved by both the Egyptians and the Hyksos; thus, the king was more than willing to grant him his wish to have his family over as guests in Egypt. Yusuf’s family of 60 Israelis were offered a land that belonged to the Egyptian people at the heart of the fertile planes of River Nile, but the ever-just Yusuf (AS) refused to accept the king’s offer so as not to rip the Egyptians of their land. He rather preferred an un-inhabited land in the desert for him and his people, the land of Gassan[8]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn8/’).

Yusuf’s family lived for years as respected guests out of love and gratitude for the great Yusuf. However, Yusuf (AS) knew that his brothers would not adopt his attitude towards the Egyptians after him. Before his death, Yusuf (AS) predicted that some day along the Israeli line would come a man who would bring justice about again and save the Israeli people from degradation which would be the inevitable outcome of their unjustness. And so Yusuf (AS) died leaving a growing family of Israelis; his prediction came to pass and his brothers started siding with the Hyksos and lending a deaf ear to the Egyptian rights. Years after, no trace of Yusuf’s justness was left in the Israelis; the Hyksos and the Israelis took turns sucking the blood of the people of Egypt.

This continued until salvation came for the Egyptians at the hands of Ahmos, an Egyptian military leader who banished the Hyksos from Egypt and chased them off into the deserts and literally cut them into pieces until they existed no longer. Then, the eternal cycle began and the oppressors became oppressed; Ahmos turned to the Hyksos allies, the Israelis. Their punishment involved six cruel phases through which they were degraded to almost nothing. First, a new law was issued stating that no Israeli was free and they were enslaved just like they allowed the Hyksos to enslave the Egyptians before. Second, they were banished from the land Gassan. Third, they were forced to inhabit mud houses on the banks of River Nile. Fourth, they were torn apart into two communities in the north and south of the country. Fifth, they were prohibited from getting education whatsoever and finally, they were put to hard work around the clock for no pay.

A map of ancient Egypt shows River Nile flowing through the country’s heart, starting way up in the north and ending deep down in the south. Extending on its bank were the Jewish communities in the north and south of the country and on the same bank at the center of the country was the royal palace in the country’s capital Bra’aa mafiis. Bra’aa in the ancient Egyptian tongue stands for the home of Ra[9]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn9/’), the god whose earthly incarnation is the pharaoh Ramses.

Ramses ruled during the darkest times for the Israeli people. He was the pharaoh who ordered to kill the male infants of the Israelis; he allowed his men to have their way with Israeli women and to burn down the Israeli house. Their souls were weakened and wounded so deep that they trembled to the sound of Ramses’ name. Their oppression was really beyond imagination that they stood watching all that being done to them and were too scared to even ask why.

However, Musa’s mother managed to escape the king’s men with Musa (AS) on her hands and ran to the Nile bank. She put her baby in a wooden box and let it go with the flow. The water carried the box from the southern quarter to the royal quarter where our story begins. We will get to that tomorrow.

I hope the concept of the never-ending cycle is clear; today’s oppressor is tomorrows oppressed. Nothing distorts the human spirits and extinguishes human pride like fear and degradation. Musa (AS) had a tough mission at hand trying to pump life into the hearts of a nation that the pharaohs took turns at sucking life out of for ages. Supported by Allah, he succeeded, and the meek prayers of the Israeli mothers were eventually answered. Finally, I have one more thing to ask of you today: never be the oppressor and never perform an act of unjustness.

Episode 3

In the Name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3544.html#_ftn1) The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All praises be to Allah, the God of the Worlds[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3544.html#_ftn2). All Prayers and Blessings of Allah be upon His Messenger Muhammad (SAWS[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3544.html#_ftn3)). This is the third episode of our program “Parables of the Qur’an", and in today’s episode we will continue with the story of Mousa (AS[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3544.html#_ftn4)).

Before we move on to this topic, I would like remind you of the two important values so we can uphold to them during Ramadan. Firstly, our neyyah (intentions); we must all strive to begin and finish Ramadan with the best of intentions. Sometimes, a single small good deed done with the best neyyah is hugely rewarded. So let us begin this Ramadan with neyyahs beyond merely fasting, praying, and reciting Qur’an; let our neyyahs be repentance, good behavior and success. Secondly, our motto in Ramadan this year will be “to Live by the Qur’an.” Let us imitate the way the Prophet’s (SAWS) companions dealt with the Qur’an; they were attached to it and they had lived their lives through its meanings.

This year, we will present the story of Musa (AS). This story was mentioned in 50 Surahs[5]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3544.html#_ftn5) in the Noble Qur’an. In addition, every day we will discuss a different value, for the objective of our program is not only to tell the story but also to discover the important moral and value behind the story.

In the first episode, we discussed how the children of the Israelites were brutally slaughtered and thrown in River Nile. In the second episode, we demonstrated how during the age of Prophet Yusuf (AS) the Israelites arrived to Egypt where they were viciously tyrannized and maltreated. Today, we will finish with the introduction for the story of Musa (AS); we will talk about the circumstances of Egypt during his time and the main characters in Musa’s (AS) story. We will also discuss what the exact mission of Musa (AS) was.

Musa (AS) was a great leader and he is the hero of our story. He was very dear to Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) as well as a role model; whenever he was hurt he always mentioned Prophet Musa (AS) saying that although he had experienced much more abuses but yet he was very tolerant. Allah (SWT[6]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3544.html#_ftn6)) loved him and chose him to be his epithet; no other prophet had reached that same rank but Prophet Muhammad (SAWS). Allah (SWT) has even praised him many times in the Noble Qur’an. For example, He says what can be translated as, “And I had you worked out for myself.” (TMQ[7]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3544.html#_ftn7), 20:41). He also says what can be translated as, “And as your Lord called out to M*ûsa, (Moses)” (TMQ, 26:10).

Let me mention something important; the achievements of a great leader are always measured by the complicated circumstances and the difficulties he had witnessed in his life. Although Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) had faced great difficulties, he managed to deliver his message and to change the face of the world. Prophet Musa (AS) was assigned to endure the biggest human mission on earth; he had faced the most tyrannical Pharaoh on earth calling him to worship the only One Allah. His objective was also to liberate the Israelites from all aspects of oppression, leading them through the desert out of Egypt in order for them to establish a new nation.

Prophet Musa (AS( was a highly qualified leader who had many important qualities, most important of which was faithfulness. Allah (SWT) describes him when he says what can be translated as, “And mention in the Book Mûsa; (Moses) surely he was most faithful and he was a Messenger, a Prophet.” (TMQ, 19:51)
This is the important value that we will discuss in today’s episode: faithfulness. Prophet Musa (AS) had to face many difficulties and fears, including wars, death threats, and pursuits yet he insisted on adhering to one and only unchangeable firm stance, which was to fulfill his duty and deliver his message. “Faithfulness” is today’s key word. I wish to have a new generation of young and honest men and women whose only purpose is to work hard only for the sake of Allah.
Let us begin to describe the unsupportable situation of Egypt during the time of Musa (AS(. We will begin with the Pharaoh; this was not actually his name but it was a title given to the ruler of Egypt at that time. Every single harmful action, abuse, and assault committed by this vicious Pharaoh was accurately mentioned in the Noble Qur’an. Allah (SWT) had says what can be translated as, “Surely Firaawn had exalted himself in the land and made its population into sects, deeming a section of them weak, constantly slaying their sons and (sparing) alive their women. Surely he was one of the corruptors.” (TMQ, 28:4).
This is the kind of tyrant Prophet Musa (AS( had to deal with; a man who had placed himself as a god keeping all the powers and the authorities in his hands. He divided the community into troops and classified them in categories in order to rule and control them; therefore, he was deemed to be the first ruler to impose racial discrimination in his community.
Pharaoh had constantly insulted the Israelites, slaughtered their sons and spared their women alive; truly he was a corruptor. Nevertheless, there were two reasons for the Pharaoh’s hatred towards the Israelites: an omen and a vision. News had been transmitted that Prophet Yusuf (AS) had prophesied the arrival of a man from among the Israelites who will put an end to oppression and will bring justice. As for the vision, it had been said that the Pharaoh had once a dream in which he saw fire coming out from the houses of the Israelites burning his castles and soldiers. The Pharaoh was afraid of this vision; his priests had interpreted it saying that a man will come from among the Israelites to eliminate his kingdom.
Nevertheless, in my opinion, these two reasons were not the only ones for the Pharaoh to hate the Israelites. There was another reason which was Pharaoh’s fear of the great numbered Jews to become the allies of the Hyksos against him.
Another thing that I want to talk about is the identity of the Pharaoh. Ancient Egypt was ruled by thirty families beginning with the first family of Mina who united the two kingdoms of Egypt until the time of the Persian invasion and the arrival of Alexander the Great. The builders of the pyramids Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure](Menkaure - Wikipedia) belonged to the forth family.
The Hyksos came during the times of the 14th, 15th and the 16th family and this was also the time when Prophet Yusuf (AS) arrived in Egypt. There was a long period of 400 years between the times of Prophet Yusuf (AS) and Prophet Musa (AS(. Therefore, Prophet Musa (AS( existed during the time of the 19th family and consequently one of the rulers of this family was the Pharaoh.
The rulers of the 19th family were Ramses the first who ruled Egypt for only two years and City the first who ruled Egypt for ten years. The story of Prophet Musa (AS) lasted for 55 years; and the only Pharaoh who ruled Egypt for a long period of 67 years was Ramses the second. Also, he was the only Pharaoh to claim himself a god.
Although Ramses the second was a powerful leader, he began his reign with a victory in a battle called Kadesh. He had the entire country submitted to his command but he had soon changed into a tyrant ruler; he tortured and imprisoned the Israelites within the country as they were not allowed to leave Egypt.
Accordingly, we conclude that the identity of the Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt during the time of Prophet Musa (AS(, was Ramses the second.
Finally I want to tell you about the highly appreciated rank and position of Prophet Musa (AS) and how Allah (SWT) loved him and preferred him as he says what can be translated as, “And I cast on you belovedness from Me, and to be worked out under My Eye (i.e., to be chosen for my Revelation).” (TMQ, 20:39). He also says what can be translated as, “You are already granted (Literally: brought) your request, O Mû
sa (Moses).” (TMQ, 20:36). This means that all his requests will be granted to him and all his prayers shall be answered.
Tomorrow we will talk about the mother of Prophet Musa (AS (how she had met the Pharaoh.

Episode 4
Musa’s (AS)[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’) Birth
In the name of Allah, The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All prayers and peace of Allah be upon our master, Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’).
Today’s episode is the fourth episode of Musa’s (AS) story which will cover his birth. Today’s story’s central theme is Tawakkul (entrusting (committing) one’s soul to Allah (SWT[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’))). Many of us feel that we are victims of injustice and we feel that we are easily defeated by the falsehood around us and that there is no way to defeat the system, but today we will learn the formula in which Musa’s (AS) mother applied to defeat the injustice of Firaawn (The Pharoah). The formula is:
Do everything you can + Tawakkul = Victory and protection from Allah (SWT).
Therefore, it is extremely important to note that tawakkul alone isn’t enough, nor does hard work alone give you true success. They both have to go hand in hand for you to achieve true victory with Allah’s (SWT) help. Allah (SWT) says in Surat Al-Qasas (The Narrative) what can be translated as, “Ta, Sîn, Mîm (These are the names of letters of the Arabic alphabet and only Allah knows their meaning here). Those (Literally: that) are the ayat (Verses, signs) of the Evident Book. We recite to you (something) of the tiding of Mûsa (Moses) and Firaawn (Pharaoh) with the Truth, for a people who believe. Surely Firaawn had exalted himself in the land and made its population into sects, deeming a section of them weak, constantly slaying their sons and (sparing) alive their women. Surely he was one of the corruptors.” (TMQ[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’), 28:1-4)
Firaawn saw in a dream that a boy was born who would snatch away his kingdom from him, so he felt threatened and started killing all the new born boys to the extent that he killed a thousand boys before Musa (AS) was born. Firaawn had a strict plan in place to ensure that no new born baby boy survived. He kept track of all the pregnant women in the city and secretly marked their houses so that when the mother gives birth, he would send his soldiers to surprise the mother by brutally killing the baby and throwing him in the Nile River as soon as he is born. (No wonder why Firaawn died from drowning in the sea himself). Also, random house searches and spies were used to uncover hiding mothers and baby boys. So what was Musa’s (AS) mother going to do in these tough circumstances? She practically followed the tawakkul formula we mentioned earlier. She thought of a plan with her brave daughter Maryam, who would stand by her brother and mother courageously. They also involved their neighbor who would exchange places with Musa’s mother just before the random checks were made in their houses, since Maryam was always monitoring the soldiers to be prepared before they came by rushing her mother into the bushes. This was a very tiring and tense exercise since they had to be on alert for nine straight months, 24 hours a day to ensure the protection of Musa’s (AS) birth. This was the first part of the formula, where they did everything they could and now the remaining part of the formula was also needed, which was tawakkul on Allah (SWT). After nine months, Musa (AS) was born with a very special gift from Allah (SWT) which was that anyone who would see him would immediately love him. “And I cast on you belovedness from Me” (TMQ, 20:39) This shows us how much Allah (SWT) loved him and how much we should love him as well. Can you imagine that Musa’s (AS) mother had to give birth in silence with all the pains of delivery a woman goes through, and they had to cover Musa’s (AS) mouth to prevent his crying from being heard by Firaawn’s people. “And We revealed to Mûsa’s mother, (saying), “Suckle him; so, when you fear for him, then cast him in the main; and do not fear, nor grieve. Surely We will turn him back to you, and will make him one of the Emissaries.” (TMQ, 28:7)
Let us go to the Nile River to live the moment and to really understand the circumstances Musa’s (AS) mother went through. Note that Musa’s (AS) mother was not a Prophet and that she was a simple mother with strong faith, and yet Allah (SWT) revealed to her two commands, two prohibitions and two glad tidings. The first command was to “suckle him” so that he may recognize her milk later and to show us the lovely relationship between a mother and her child. The second was to “cast him in the main”. The two prohibitions were: “do not fear, nor grieve”. The two glad tidings were: “Surely We will turn him back to you, and will make him one of the Emissaries.” This revelation was not like the revelations of Prophets; rather it was a feeling that filled her heart with conviction and tawakkul. One would imagine that Allah (SWT) would ask the mother to hug or hide the child in protection from the enemy, however, when you are dealing with Al-Wakeel )the Ultimate Trustee( you should do what He tells you without questioning and with full submission. Can you put yourself in her shoes?
Musa’s (AS) mother made a basket and put Musa (AS) in it and cast him in the river. For those of you who are unemployed and for the mothers who are suffering with the upbringing of their children, where is your tawakkul? We are at the Nile River spot to really understand the situation with the strong water currents and the big risk Musa’s (AS) mother took, since the basket would never come back to her and there was always a chance of Musa (AS) falling in the river and being eaten by fish. Thousands of mothers lost their children due to Firaawn’s injustice, but Musa’s (AS) mother had true tawakkul and that is what made all the difference. We must however know that there is a big difference between theory and actual practice. Musa’s (AS) mother showed some hesitance and so a second revelation came to her to deal with the state of emergency since Firaawn’s people were coming. Allah (SWT) says in Surat Ta-Ha what can be translated as, “As We revealed what was revealed to your mother: (Saying), ‘“Hurl him in the coffer, then hurl it in the main; so let the main cast it on the shore.” (TMQ, 20:38-39)
Musa’s (AS) sister was then appointed by the mother to follow-up on the task by tracking the basket. “And she said to his sister, “Trail him,” and so she beheld him from afar, and they were not aware.” (TMQ, 28:11) It was Allah’s (SWT) will that the basket would end up in Firaawn’s palace, and so Maryam went back to her mother to give her the bad news. “And the heart-sight of M
ûsa’s mother became empty, (and) decidedly she indeed almost declared him, had We not braced her heart, that she might be of the believers.” (TMQ, 28:10)
So what was the wisdom behind Musa ending up in Firaawn’s palace? It could be that this was the best protection for Musa (AS). Musa’s (AS) duty later would be to free Bani Israel from the injustice of Firaawn and so he had to set an example by freeing himself first, which could only be possible by being in Firaawn’s palace. The other reason could be that Musa (AS) had to be educated to bring reform and the best source of education was no other than the house of Firaawn.
“Then the house of Firaawn picked him out to be an enemy to them and (a source of) grief. Surely Firaawn and Haman and their hosts were sinners.” (TMQ, 28:8) It was the will of Al-Wakeel that Firaawn’s wife Asia’s timing to take the baby before the soldiers was perfect timing. “And the wife of Firaawn said, “He is comfort (Literally: for the eye to get steady and settle down, to be refreshed) to the eye for me and for you. Do not kill him, (for) he may profit us, and we may take him to ourselves as a child.” And they were not aware.” (TMQ, 28:9)
Asia defended Musa (AS), and Allah (SWT) protected him with the weapon of love. As soon as Asia announced that Musa (AS) was not going to be killed and that he would be taken by them as a child, the baby started crying and now needed to be suckled. “And We had prohibited to him earlier wet-nurses. So she said, “Shall I indicate to you the family of a house who will sponsor him for you and advisably look after him?” (TMQ, 28:12)
Musa’s (AS) sister entered the palace with courage, and told them that she knew who would be able to suckle Musa (AS). Therefore, Musa’s (AS) mother was eventually brought into the palace to suckle the child, who is her own, and so she was appointed as the official foster mother of Musa (AS), which wwould earn her a decent salary. “So We turned him back to his mother so that she might comfort her eye and not grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true; but most of them do not know.” (TMQ, 28:13).

Episode 5
In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. Praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds, All Prayers and Blessings of Allah (SWT) be upon the Prophet (SAWS)[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’).
Today in the fifth episode we will deal with the childhood and the youth of Musa (AS) (Moses). Most of us could wonder how Musa (AS) reached such a special rank and could talk directly to Allah (SWT).No one has made a direct conversation with Allah (SWT) except Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) during al-Mi’raj[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’). Also a lot of questions could be raised like what was Musa’s message about and what made him special among all Prophets. The Prophet says:” “My similitude in comparison with the other Prophets before me, is that of a man who has built a house nicely and beautifully, except for a place of one brick in a corner. The people go about it and wonder at its beauty, but say: ‘Would that this brick be put in its place!’ So I am that brick, and I am the last of the Prophets.”
Musa (AS) is a leader created by Allah SWT) to eliminate injustice and to transfer his nation from being weak to being in control. I believe that Musa’s (AS) message is the most difficult one in history after the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAWS) message. Musa (AS) has faced alone and without any weapon, the most oppressive tyrants in the all of history, incest who killed thousands of children. Allah (SWT) has made Musa’s (AS) physical appearance suitable to his difficult mission. He was tall, dark, with a strong muscular body. Musa (AS) was threatened all the time to be murdered and because he faced a lot of hardships in his life the word “fear” was mentioned a lot in his story in Qur’an. Musa’s (AS) main mission was to free his nation by the words “No god but Allah”, these words mean that there is no power or wealth but from Allah (SWT). Eventually, the Europeans were not those who started to proclaim for freedom as it is mostly known, Musa (AS) actually is the first to proclaim for the freedom of his nation.
Musa’s (AS) story could be divided into four stages:
The first preparation stage: (Childhood and youth) it lasted until he was 30 years old, and it took place in Pharaoh’s palace in Egypt.
The second preparation stage: It lasted for ten years and it took place in Madian.
The first accomplishment stage: It lasted fifteen years as he was facing Pharaoh in Egypt.
The second accomplishment stage: It lasted about ten or fifteen years and it took place in Sinai, Jordan, and at the Palestinian borders.
That means that Musa (AS) had lived seventy years into delivering his message.
Today’s episode will show how Allah (SWT) had prepared Musa (AS) to be a leader by adding ten traits to his personality. Anyone who wants to be a leader has to make sure that he has these ten traits.
Musa (AS) has spent his childhood in Egypt on the banks of the Nile. He spent it between the luxury of Pharaoh’s palace and the simplicity of Israelite houses. Musa’s (AS) mother had insisted that he should be raised in her home. Although Asia has tried to let him be raised in Pharaoh’s palace. She had to accept Musa’s mother’s wish especially since she was the only who could breast feed him. Musa (AS) had a lot of memories of his early life on the Nile banks. The name Musa in the ancient Egyptian language means someone who is saved from water; it also has another meaning which is the son of water. Asia was the one who gave him this name. Musa (AS) had spent his early childhood among the care and love of two mothers (his real mother and Asia). Allah (SWT) wanted him to be subjected to the kind of intensive love to build a stable character. From this point we could notice the first trait of a leader which is mercy. A leader without mercy would be a tyrant like Hitler, but Musa (AS) was a leader raised by Allah (SWT).
After weaning Musa (AS) moved to live in Pharaoh’s house as he was his father by adoption. His life in Pharaoh’s palace had helped in developing three traits of his personality as a leader. The first trait is the high educational background that he could not ever gain except in Pharaoh’s house. The second trait is the strong muscular body as the Egyptian took good care of sports and body health. The third trait is dignity and free spirit that made him not to fear Pharaoh or anybody.
When Musa (AS) was about eight years old, Asia decided to tell him that she was not his mother and she did not know who his real mother was.
Asia allowed Musa (AS) to visit his foster mother who was his unknown real mother; that made a strong relationship grow between him and his brother Harun (AS) (Aaron) and sister Maryam (AS) “Mary”. Despite the simplicity of Israelites houses, Musa (AS) found warmth among them, he felt that he did not belong to Pharaoh’s palace. His mother began to tell him about one of the most important figures in Israelite history which was Yusuf. Yusuf was popular for both Israelites and Pharaoh as he saved the Egyptian economy. For that reason, Musa’s (AS) smart mother has chosen to tell him about Yusuf who became Musa’s (AS) ideal. She also mentioned to Musa (AS) that Yusuf was from her ancestors to make Musa (AS) wonder what made them reach such level of humiliation. She made all the preparations to tell her son that she was his mother. Could you imagine how he as a kid had to tolerate such kinds of secrets? Eventually she revealed to him the whole secret with all of its details. Musa’s (AS) personality could tolerate such kinds of shocks because Allah (SWT) has given him a strong spirit that could face all the circumstances.
His mother convinced him to stay at Pharaoh’s palace to avoid Pharaoh’s outrage and to receive a good education. His mother helped in shaping his stable personality. She was a smart and extraordinary woman that is why three of her children’s names were mentioned in Qur’an.
His life in Pharaoh’s palace and Israelite homes had added flexibility to his character. It helped him to be aware of the culture and the life of the Pharaoh and the Israelites as well. That created an open minded character who could deal with different cultures and social background.
Allah (SWT) had gathered the eight traits of the leader that we have mentioned in our episode in only one Ayah. Allah (SWT) says what can be translated as:” And as soon as he reached full age and matured, (Literally: leveled himself in body and mind) We brought him judgment and knowledge; and thus We recompense the fair-doers. “ (TMQ[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’), 24:14).

The last two traits that have to be found in a leader are that he should have a goal and aim in life. Musa’s (AS) aim was to save Israelites. People think Musa (AS) had become Israelites savior because Allah (SWT) had charged Musa (AS) to that mission, but the fact is that Allah (SWT) had charged Musa (AS) to that mission because Musa (AS) had chosen that to be his aim in life.

The last trait that should be in a leader is having good companions. Musa’s (AS) companion was his brother Harun (AS), he was his supporter in accomplishing his mission and in worshipping Allah (SWT). He was his companion in worldly life and in the hereafter.
In a nut shell the traits of a leader can be summarized to be: Mercy, strong muscular body, refined education, flexibility, good companionship, free spirit, having an ideal, ability to coexist, to have a goal in life and courage.

[FONT=/‘Tahoma/’] Episode 6
In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful
Welcome to the 6th episode from “Parables of the Qur’an” Part II. Let’s live with Musa (AS[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’)) (Moses), love him and see his choices and faithfulness to carrying the message.
Now let us begin with our episode today. In fact, Prophet Musa (AS) was grown up in the house of Pharaoh; however, he knew the truth that he was not not the son of Pharaoh nor Assia and that he was the son of the nurse and one of the poor people of Israelites. Nevertheless, all Egypt knew him as Musa the prince. In addition, Assia told him that she was not his mother but she did not know that the nurse was his true mother. Here, Musa (AS) had to choose.
We come to the lesson of today’s episode, Life is Choices. We all have to choose and Allah (SWT) has given us the free will of choice. That is the reason why Allah (SWT) does not like any one to disable the freedom He has given to his servants.
In fact, the ability of choosing the right choice does not apply only on religoius choices, but also on wordly ones. Some people do not know how to choose; others leave life to choose for them; while others bring some people to choose for them.
Look at Musa (AS) and his choice. Think about the vast space between Musa the prince inside the Pharaoh’s palace with all its ornaments, money, not to mention the suits, servants, soldiers, and so on, and the poor houses of Israelites on the Nile banks, who are needy and persecuted. What will you choose O Musa?!
It’s all about the right choice. Prophet Muhammad (SAWS[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’)) ordered us not to be followers imitating the people in whatever they do. The Prophet (SAWS) advised us to think and decide ourselves. A choice may take you to the highest places in the heavens of eternity, and a choice may lead you astray. What do you want? Think and choose proprely.
Musa (AS) had already chosen. He decided to be on the side of the Israelites to help them and be their patron and supporter even though he was not sent as a Messenger yet. At that time, he was only 30 years old and he became a prophet when he was 40; so he was not a prophet yet, but just a monothiest man who loved Allah (SWT) and hated injustice.
After Musa (AS) had set up his mind, Allah (SWT) put him to a test to examine his decision, especially that the Israelites talked among themselves that Musa was on Pharaoh’s side after all. That is why Allah (SWT) wanted to settle an absolute exapmle, for clearing everything; consequently he would absolutey be with them and not with Pharaoh.
Allah (SWT) said what can be translated as, "And he entered the city at a time while its population were (in a state of) heedlessness. Then he found therein two men fighting, the one of his (own) sect and the other (Literally: this) of his enemy. Then the one who was of his sect asked him for succor against him who was of his enemy; then Mûsa (Moses) punched him (and) so made an end of him. He said, “This is of Ash-Shaytan’s (Ash-Shaytan= the ever-vicious “one”, i.e., the Devil) doing; surely he is an evidently misleading enemy.” (TMQ, 28:15). Why did he enter the city while people were in a state of heedlessness? That was a sign that Musa (AS) wanted to see the Israelites without the knowledge of Pharaoh.
Moreover, he had followers and supporters even though he was not revealed a prophet yet. This is because he was working against injustice. All what I want to tell you here is if you witness injustice, stand with the weak. Be fair.
It is clear that the other man (the Egyptian) who was hitting the Israelite man, was not an ordinary Egyptian; he held a whip and hit that man. By the way, do not think that Egyptians were the enemies of Musa as many people may think. Egyptians were one of three: either believed in him, or defended him even though they did not believe in him like the man we will see today, or a third part who used to watch only.
In addition, when Musa (AS) punched that man, he killed him unintentionally, immediately sought refuge from Satan, and said that this was from the work of Satan due to the fact that he was not aware of the issue very well. Allah (SWT) said what can be translated as, “He said, “Lord! Surely I have done (an) injustice to myself; so forgive me!” Then Allah) forgave him; surely He, Ever He, is The Ever-Forgiving, The Ever-Merciful”(TMQ, 28:16).
After that, Allah (SWT) told us the speech of Musa which can be translated as, "He said, “Lord! For as much as You have favored me, then I will never be a backer of the criminals, So he became frightened in the city and on the watch. Then, only then, the man who had asked his vindication on the day before screamed to him (for help). Mû
sa said to him, “Surely you are indeed an evidently misguided (fellow).” (TMQ, 28:17-18). Allah (SWT) wanted Musa (AS) to experience the feeling of terror because if he was to lead the Israelites against injustice, he had to feel what they had been experiencing; especially that he was in top security while he was in Pharaoh’s palace.
Then, the same man who was supported by Musa (AS), asked help again in another trouble, which angered Musa (AS) who described that man being misguided since that man wanted to solve the problem of his people by making troubles.
Afterwards, Allah (SWT) said what can be translated as, "Then, as soon as he would have assaulted (the man) who was an enemy to them both, (the man) said, “O M*ûsa, would you like to kill me as you killed a person (Literally: a self) yesterday? Decidedly you would like to be nothing except a potentate in the land, and in no way would you like to be one of the reformers.” (i.e., the righteous-doers). (TMQ, 28:19). By that accident, that man from the Israelites thought that Musa wanted to attack him, so he exposed Musa (AS) being the one who killed the man earlier.
Actually, Musa (AS) learned from this accident that not all the Israelites were faithful people; some of them are trouble-makers and others are not good believers. Hence, generalization is wrong. Allah (SWT) says what can be translated as, “And of the people of Mûsa (Moses) there is a nation who guide with the truth, and by it do with justice…And We cut them up into twelve Grandsons, (i.e., tribes). nations” (TMQ, 7:159).
Musa (AS) stayed in distress because firstly he was described from the Israeli man a potentate in the land, secondly the terror of what may happen next after the disclosure of the Egyptian partisan of Pharaoh.
After that, the man arrived the palace of Pharaoh, he found him heading a council of close counsels trying to think of who might be the killer. Then he told them that the killer is Musa. The Pharaoh started to see everything that Musa (AS) was the son of the nurse. In fact, people talked about that because of visiting Musa this woman frequently. He wondered how he was the one who brought Musa (AS) up and taught him and he went to support the Israelites. Imagine the wrath that overwhelmed the Pharaoh; therefore, he ordered that Musa (AS) must be killed. This takes us to the certainty to Allah (SWT) who is the One who decides the destiny of everything. If Allah (SWT) does not predestine killing someone, no power on earth can kill him, and He has all the subsistence.
Afterwards, as Allah (SWT) said what can be translated as, “And (there) came from the remotest part of the city a man going speedily. He said, “O my people, closely follow the Emissaries!” (TMQ, 36:20). This man is mentioned to be one of the believers. He was one of the close counsels in the palace and I think when there was a talk about what to do with Musa, he might have voted for killing him because not all people can choose the right choice publicly, but when they can, they do it.
Today’s lesson is the right choice. When Musa (AS) chose backing the weak, Allah (SWT) sent a man to him to save him. O people the goodness never goes in vain.
Choose wisely in your life and know that if the nation come together to benefit or hurt you, they can only do what Allah (SWT) has predestined. Depend on Allah (SWT) and choose properly in your life.

Re: story of sayduna Musa, many lessons to learn!!!

Episode 7
Having departed from Egypt, Musa (AS) (Moses) set up his mind to go to Madyan to be out of the reach of Pharaoh. On his way, Musa (AS) faced some obstacles: he had to walk 1000 km on his bare feet for eight days, not to mention that this was the first time for him to leave Egypt. This is mentioned in the Quran, “And as soon as he (turned) his face towards Madyan, he said, “It may be that my Lord will guide me on the level way.” (TMQ[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), 28:22).
Although Musa (AS) was most likely to get lost, he had strong faith in Allah.(SWT)[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’) Firstly, he left Egypt all of a sudden, without even saying goodbye to his mother. Secondly, he left without his brother, Harun (AS) (Aaron). Thirdly, he was a prince in Egypt, but nothing more than a poor warrior when he left it. However, he knew very well that since he was doing all this for the sake of helping the poor, he would never get lost. I will keep repeating this over and over again: you always have to help the poor and sympathize with them whenever they need you. This is what made Allah (SWT) honor Musa (AS) by making him “the Addressor of Allah”.
From this time on, Musa (AS) never settled in one place for the rest of his life. He kept migrating from one place to another for 70 years only for the sake of the poor. Today, there are millions of poor people in our countries. What have you done to help them?
On the other hand, the situation in Egypt were upside down. Pharaoh could not find Musa, so he ordered his soldiers to look for him everywhere in Egypt; they even searched the houses of Israelites, tormenting and killing its people. Pharaoh would do anything to prevent Musa from dethroning him as he had seen in the vision. However, the soldiers never thought, for once, about extending their search outside the boundaries of Egypt. There was nothing but a limitless desert out there. No one could enter this desert without riding an animal or a guide, otherwise he would definitely die.
Disappointed and sad, Musa (AS) left Egypt as he was not able to help the poor in his country or guide Israelites to Judaism. Yet, it never occurred to him that this was because Allah (SWT) loves him and is preparing him for something much better. He would not have become “the Addressor of Allah” nor a prophet if he hadn’t left the life of princes and tasted the bitterness of life. Allah even says in the Noble Quran, addressing Musa (AS), “And I had you worked out for Myself.” (TMQ, 20:41).
What happened to Musa (AS) is typical of the saying: “Allah could give you something but prevent you from having another better thing, and he could prevent you from getting something in order to give you a better one instead.” You always have to trust in Allah when this happens; if you are sure that you are doing the right thing- helping the poor- as it was with Musa (AS) but some difficulties encounter you, never be affected. Instead, you have to believe that you are on the right path and that through these difficulties and obstacles, Allah is preparing you for a greater thing.
Please visit: www.amrkhaled.net, list five things which happened to you, that you later on found that it was a preparation from Allah for you to do something for Islam whether helping the poor or anything else.
Another lesson to learn is that our fates belong only to Allah. This was the second time for Musa (AS) to escape from death at the hands of Pharaoh. Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’) even said, that Jibril (AS) (Gabriel) told him that no one would die except after he had been given everything which Allah had kept for him. Thus, do not hesitate to help anyone who needs you, for your fate has already been determined by Allah, and it will never change.
During his journey, Musa (AS) was fighting death as he had neither food nor drink, not to mention scorpions which were everywhere. Similarly, we should exert some effort for the sake of Allah, just as we do for leading a better life. Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) was also badly injured in his feet in al-Taif. He says that the more religious one is, the tougher Allah’s trial to him is. When the Prophet (SAWS) was asked about who gets the toughest trials, he said, ‘The prophets, then the most similar to them in their acts’. If you are toughly tested by Allah, be patient, for Allah says in the Noble Quran, “Surely (the) patient will only be paid their reward in full without reckoning.” (TMQ, 39:10).
Being alone, Musa (AS) started practicing a new form of worship: being in Allah’s company. Try this in Ramadan, everyone. For example, pray two Raka’as[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’) instead of wasting hours talking on the phone, watching TV or playing computer games. Allah says in a Hadith Qudsy[5]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn5/’) that He is with his slave as long as his lips are murmuring words about Him.
Finally, Musa (AS) reached Madyan. Allah made him choose Madyan in particular for a specific purpose; He wanted Musa (AS) to know that Shu’ayb (AS) faced the same obstacles from his people- the people of Madyan. Allah had sent Shu’ayb (AS) to them, but they gave him a deaf ear. Being the Ever-Forbearing, Allah gave them several chances. However, at the end, when they refused to change, Allah, the Almighty, destroyed them. Allah, thus, wanted to tell Musa (AS) that He did not make Pharaoh triumph over him, as Musa (AS) might think. Instead, Allah (SWT) is just giving him chances.
Musa (AS) directly headed towards the well of Madyan. In the ancient times, it was a habit for strangers to go to the place where people gather to collect water so as to find someone helping or inviting them to stay at his house. After a long eight-day journey, with neither food nor water, it was natural for Musa (AS) to look for water. However, he did not do so. He noticed two girls standing away from other shephards, waiting for them to finish so that they would get water from the well. Thus, he decided to bring water for them. Since the bottom of the well is muddy, the later one is, the more mud he will find in its water. The strongest would first use the well and then the weaker, and so on. Thus, these people were strong, not merciful; none of them thought of helping the girls.
What would you do if you were in Musa’s situation? Being the strongest, and at the same time dead-tired, you would launch like a rocket in the direction of the well, pushing men, and immersing your head in the well to drink. You may also sit in a corner hiding your blood-covered hands, or pretend not to have seen the girls in the first place. We all keep saying that we want to enter paradise, but what have we, actually, done to gain paradise? How many widows, orphans, or poor people have you helped?
Since those men are ruled by strength, Musa (AS) decided to deal with them in the same way. Thus, he made his way through the men, watered the two girls’ sheep, and brought water to them. His great love for helping the poor even made him forget to drink although he was about to die from dehydration. Some say that when other men saw how powerful he was, they blocked the entrance to the well with a rock which cannot be lifted by less than ten men. However, Musa (AS) lifted it himself and put it out of the way. This is why the girl would later tell her father, as it is mentioned in the Quran: “O my father, hire him; surely the most charitable (man) you (can) hire is the one powerful…” (TMQ, 28:26).
Here, I have to give a warning to the young men: do not ever make your muscles your first priority, never go bragging about them everywhere to harrase girls. Also do not use your muscles and strength as a means of fighting others. Instead, use it as a means to help the weak as Musa (AS) did.
Your practical task today is to look for any weak or poor person and help him in any way. Just help him. This one may be inside your own house; perhaps your mother, your wife, or your daughter.
Allah wanted to test Musa to see if he would still assist the weak people even after what had happened to him when he stood by the weak man’s side in Egypt. Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) taught us that helping a muslim brother is better for one than to seclude oneself in his mosque-in Madina.. Instead of secluding yourself in the mosque in the last ten days of Ramadan, you could better help a poor family in your village by setting up a project that would help them lead a better life. Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) also told us that Allah helps and supports His slave as long as the slave is assisting his muslim brother.
One of the companions considers it a disaster and a consequence of his bad deeds if a day passes without a poor knocking on his door asking for help. If this day is over, without you finding a poor asking your help, you have to know, then, that you are deprived of a great blessing.
After what Musa (AS) did with the shepherds, he became all alone. He prefered helping the two girls to winning the shepherds to his side. His only companion now was Allah.

Re: story of sayduna Musa, many lessons to learn!!!

Episode 8
In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All Prayers and Peace of Allah be upon our master, the most noble Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) [2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’).
After Prophet Musa (AS)[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’) (Moses) brought the water from the well for the two girls, he went to sit under the shade of a tree next to that well. We can imagine how he feels at these moments; he is so lonely, yet, he is a beloved person to Allah.
As Musa was sitting alone under the tree, his soul and heart were with his creator. He started asking help from Allah (SWT)[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’), telling him that he is a poor man needs Allah’s help.
Let us try to get closer to him and feel what he feels. We know that he used to make du’aa (supplication) to Allah (SWT) all the time and in all situations. Allah accepted his prayers and made all his wishes came true. Dua’a is a very important thing, we all have to stick to it, for Allah never let the believers down. It is wrong to say, like Israelites, that Allah knows our need and request so we don’t have to make du’aa. Allah wants to hear our voices praying and supplicating him.
When Musa wanted to ask Allah’s help, he began his du’aa by mentioning Allah’s blessings on him. Thus, the best du’aa comes after showing humbleness and admitting Allah’s blessings.
Straightaway after his prayer, the girl came to tell him about her father’s invitation. Musa (AS) knew then, that Allah accepted his prayer as a reward for his nobility with the girl and would provide him with food, shelter, stability and marriage as well.
There is a law, which is called “The law of rebounding”. It means that every good deed we do pays off. If we pay money for charity, we get them back doubled. If we help someone, Allah will send another to help us, and so on.
When the two girls returned home early, their father inquired about that so they told him the story of the thirty years old man who brought them water free and without too much talking. The old man was so intelligent and knowledgeable. He knew that such a man as Musa is a good man, and deserves to be paid back. One of the two girls came to Musa walking shyly and told him that her father wanted to pay him back for what he did for them. The Qur’an used the word “shyness” in such a way to emphasize how shy the girl was. Shyness is an essential trait in any girl.
That invitation assured to Musa that they were generous people just like him, so he decided to go with her. He was a flexible man and could deal with his new situation as a stranger, lonely man.
Musa (AS) told the old man his story with the Israelites and the man that he had killed by mistake. The old man told him one thing; he told him that he is saved from the tyrants, which was the last du’aa Musa had made. He asked Allah (SWT) to save him from the tyrants so Allah informed him that his du’aa was accepted.
So, Musa’s du’aa was accepted. We too, should keep making du’aa and you will see that it would pay off, according to “the law of rebounding”, every good deed will return to us. Only a few minutes that separate between suffering and welfare. We see Musa here was a stranger, homeless and just after his talking with the girl, everything changed and all problems solved. Pharaoh- the king- was following Musa and his people and after minutes the sea was split into two parts and they were saved whereas Pharaoh drowned. We only have to trust in our creator who will never let us down.
Musa lived in “Madyan” with that family- which became his later- for ten years from the age thirty to forty. The old man became a friend of him and married his daughter. She was a girl of a strong personality, intelligent, polite and shy. She was the one who suggested hiring Musa to work for her father as a shepherd. If any other man now is in the prophet Musa’s (AS) situation, he would have never accepted such offer. But Musa (AS) was a realistic and flexible man. He was content about what Allah Has ordained.
During Musa’s (AS) life, he dealt with many different kinds of people: palaces’ residents, desert residents and poor Israelites. He learned many languages. Thus, he gained a great deal of experience, which kept him from being a racist.
Here we should refer to “meditation” as a great kind of worship. It was practiced by all the prophets for years to be able to carry their messages and deliver them to the humanity. Muhammad (SAWS) practiced meditation in cave of mount Hira’ for years before revelation. Musa (AS) also practiced it for ten years. All the experiences Musa (AS) has gained helped him a lot in his later life. He lived in the city as a prince where science and culture were prevalent. Then he lived in the desert as a shepherd, which helped him in meditation. Again, this combination helped him a great deal in his mission. Although Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) is the best of all messengers and more beloved to Allah, yet he ordered us not to prefer him to Musa (AS). This indicates the humbleness of the Prophet (SAWS) and the value of Musa (AS).
Back to our story, as the old man saw his daughter praising Musa, he thought of offering him to marry his daughter in return for 8 years, in which Musa should work for the father. He told Musa too that he could make them ten if he wishes. Musa hadn’t been married at the time, so he accepted. He was destined to marry an Arab woman and this is the greatest evidence for being so far from racism.
We can imagine Musa’s life as a shepherd for ten years. He went through a lot. It taught him patience, and thus he became the master of humanity at his time. The lesson we should learn today is that one should go through a lot to be eligible to lead their nations. Moreover, life is not stable. Musa (AS), for example was a prince one day, and the next day he became a shepherd. However, he didn’t lose his patience during hard times. To the contrary, he showed a great deal of content and gratefulness to Allah (SWT), and this is how we all should be.

Episode 9

In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All Prayers and Peace of Allah be upon our master, the most noble Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) [2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’).
Today’s episode is a very delicate one amongst all the huge events which Musa (AS) was experiencing.
There is just an introduction that I would like to start this episode with.
Allah picks and chooses. He chose the messengers from among the people and then chose his Five Prophets from among these messengers. These five Prophets are: Musa (AS) (Moses), Ibrahim (AS) (Abraham), ISA (AS) (Jesus), Noah (AS) and of course Prophet Muhammad (SAWS). Then He chose Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) from among these five Prophets and made him the closure of all Prophets and messengers.
He chose Maryam (AS)“Mary” from among all women.
He chose Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) and chose for him his followers. He chose us. But take care because Allah doesn’t choose anybody unless he sees something good in him. It is like going to a job interview with your CV saying that you’re good at this and that in order to work at a supreme position.
The value of today is that I want you to imagine that you will be working for Allah. So show me your CV and tell me what you’re good at. Tell me the good characters that you possess in order to make Allah choose you.
You crave for Allah to choose you for a mission, Repair of Ummah, good deeds or for supporting the weak. You desperately want him to choose you on the night of Determination and forgive all your sins.
If you really want him to choose you, you have to search for the good things inside your heart or make a contribution.
Musa (AS) made many contributions. His CV was full of situations of support for the weak people. That’s why Allah chose him for a great mission.
It all started one night at El Tor Mountain. We couldn’t film there but we filmed at a similar location in order to be able to sense the spirituality of these moments. I want you to listen carefully and to pray deeply to Allah to choose you for a great mission one day.
This is the value of today’s episode, to imagine yourself working for Allah.
Let’s go together and see Musa (AS) and find out what he made in order to make Allah dedicate him for such great mission.
We are now in the middle of the dessert. We choose to film in a similar location of El Tor Mountain in order to live the moment of the great night at which Allah spoke to Musa (AS) and confided him with his mission.
At this night Musa (AS) was together with his wife and family on their way back to Egypt from Median. The way from Median to Egypt is very long. It took him 8 days to reach Median while he was on his own, so it must have taken him around 10 to 12 days when he was accompanied with his family and cattle. For this trip, he chose a date when the moon is Full moon in order to benefit of the light during his journey in the dessert. When he approached El Tor Mountain the weather was very mild and calm. Suddenly it all changed. Dense clouds covered the moon, it became very dark, suddenly there was thunder and very strong storm took place. It got very cold and began to rain heavily. Musa (AS) and his companions got very wet. Looking towards El Tor Mountain, he saw fire right by its side. He got puzzled and couldn’t believe the existence of such great fire during such heavy rain. This is greatly recited in Surah “Taha”. He wanted to explore the source of this fire but was afraid to take his family with him because he was not sure what he might find at this location. So he ordered them to wait for him till he goes and examine this fire and try to get them a decent piece of it to warm them up and provide them with some light. He left them and went towards the fire amidst Towa Valley. To his surprise, once he reached there, he found that it got very calm, the weather was nice, there was no rain, the moon was clear and the whole surrounding was very splendid as if the whole universe was in humility for the message that was going to be transmitted to Musa (AS) at these moments. It was as if Allah wanted to tell Musa (AS) that when he was at the other location he was frightened, cold, wet and suffering of darkness and getting lost but when he came to him he found tranquility and relief and calmness. The same goes for us. On regular days, our hearts are away from Allah, we feel frightened and lost and once we enter Ramadan, everything changes and we experience calmness and relief. When our hearts get afraid, lonely and scattered, nothing heals that except Allah. Allah arranged this fierce introduction for Musa (SA) because he wanted him to get prepared for the difficult and hard mission that he wanted him to accomplish. The same thing happened to all Prophets, as they all experienced a very hard beginning for the same reason.
So back to Musa (AS), when he reached the fire location he found that the fire came from a green tree. He was astonished how the fire didn’t burn the tree or the tree didn’t demolish the fire. On the contrary, the fire was increasing. He kept approaching the fire and to his surprise, he discovered that it wasn’t fire, it was light. At this moment, he heard his name being called with a very loud voice filling the universe and telling him his that he was Allah, the one and only God and ordering him to take off his slippers cause he was in a sacred valley. Allah told him that the Day of Judgment was very near and that he chose him to deliver his message and ordered him to warship him and pray to him.
This shows how mankind is very precious to Allah and how much Allah loves all people. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t have chosen a man among them and spoke to him directly.
Allah asked Musa (AS): Do you know, Musa, why I chose you from among all the people to speak to you and to provide you with my messages? Musa answered: O’Allah, why? Allah replied: I searched among the hearts of all my creatures and didn’t find one more obedient and loving to me than yours.
Imagine this situation when Musa (AS) stood between Allah’s hands and Allah called him by his name. Do you crave to be in that position? Do you want Allah to call you by your name? This will happen in Paradise, when Allah calls everyone by his name and asks him if he’s satisfied or not? It can also happen in the world as Musa was not the only man Allah called by his name. Allah named Lady Khadijah Bint-Khuwaylid on her deathbed, when Jibril (AS) (Gabriel), asked Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) to tell her that Allah greets her and promises her a palace in Paradise. Also Allah says that he calls everyone who says dhikr.
So back to Musa (AS), Allah started his conversation with Musa (AS) by introducing himself to him telling him that he was his God and asked him 3 things: 1- Monotheism, 2- Praying, and 3-knowing that the Day of Judgment was coming. Then he asked him: What do you have in your right hand? Did he ask him that because he really didn’t know what Musa had in his right hand? He did that out of Merci in order to minimize and absorb his fear and anxiety by asking him a simple question. Then he ordered him to throw his stick. Musa (AS) threw it without hesitation or asking why. He obeyed Allah as a sign of love and trust. To his surprise, it was transformed into a snake. He got afraid and started running away. At that moment Allah called him and reassured him and asked him to come back and stop being afraid. Then Allah told him to take his stick back and not be afraid of it as it will be returned to its original estate. When Musa (AS) bent to take his stick it was still a snake but he obeyed Allah and started grabbing it. This shows the amount of trust he had in Allah and in his words. When he grabbed the stick, it was then transformed back to its original estate as Allah told him. Then Allah asked him to do another thing. Musa (AS) had a dark skin so Allah asked him to put his hand under his arm and then grab it back. Allah told him that his hand will come out fair colored without any harm or illness. So Musa (AS) was shown two miracles which made him more frightened because he couldn’t understand what was going on. At this moment Allah, The Gentle, asked him to put his hand on his heart to calm down.
The big question erupting here is what did these two miracles have to do with the story of Pharaoh? First we have to know that Allah does not show any miracles unless they are suitable for the time they are shown at. This shows that it is not enough if you have the right but you must present that right in a way that is impressive and competitive for the people you live among. At the time of Musa (AS), his people were top at doing magic so Allah showed him the miracle of the stick because this was what they were good at. This miracle was a message from Allah to Pharaoh telling him to stop his bad deeds and obey the Messenger he sent. But why was the stick transformed into a snake, not something else? The symbol of the nation which Pharaoh ruled that time was the snake, so Allah wanted to tell pharaoh that the snake that he was honoring and worshipping and holding as a symbol of his power will destroy him. He wanted him to wake up and leave this false worshipping and worship Allah, the one and only God. So the stick being transformed into a snake was not a trick but was a presentation method that was attractive, competitive and suitable for the time it was shown at.
Then if we look at the other miracle. What else were the ancient Egyptians super at, besides magic? They were super at mummifying. Mummifying means the chemical treatment of a body in order to transforming it into another condition and make it keep that condition for a long time. So Allah wanted to show Pharaoh his second miracle by showing him Musa’s hand being transformed into another condition while it is still alive and not dead and without even using any chemicals. Pharaoh was able to compete with the miracle of the stick but he avoided the miracle of the Musa’s hand because he couldn’t compete with.
This was not the only message that Allah wanted to tell Pharaoh through these miracles. The white hand that Allah made Musa (AS) show Pharaoh was known as a symbol of Peace. So Allah wanted to tell Pharaoh that he wanted to stop the Unjust and free Beni-Israel and wanted to be the only God worshipped but he was not going to do that using violence. He gave him that white hand as a symbol of peace.
The best thing in the world is when Allah chooses you to work for him like when he chose Musa (AS) for that great mission. The most terrifying is that if you’re not up to that mission he will fire you and hire somebody else to accomplish it. Allah will never choose somebody to work for him unless he loves him and unless he sees something good in him. So we have all to pray for Allah and cry and recite our good characters and try to make him hire us to work for him in order not to live in vain.
Back to Musa (SA).When Allah showed Musa (AS) these miracles, he then told him the reason why he showed them. He asked him to go to Pharaoh and tell him that he was being unjust and show him the way to Allah to worship and fear him. He also wanted Musa (AS) to tell Pharaoh to free Beni-Israel of the big prison that he captured them in and to let them follow Musa (AS) to build a new nation.
Can you imagine how Musa (AS) felt when he heard the mission he was up to? Can you imagine how huge this mission was? What’s your mission in life? To live, eat, drink, get married, etc…? Is this a life? Try to find a mission for yourself that can make you be able to be proud when you stand between the hands of Allah. If you can’t find any, pray for Allah to guide you and provide you with one.
When Musa (AS) heard his mission from Allah, he didn’t take it lightly but he confronted Allah with the problems he thought he would confront. He told Allah that he was afraid that the people would not believe him or that he would then get very annoyed of them and angry that he would loose his ability to talk in a right way, so he asked Allah to send with him Harun (AS) (Aaron), his brother. Musa (AS) was also afraid he might get killed because they want to have revenge from him in Egypt.
See how Allah gave Musa (AS) the space and freedom to present his problems? So every parent and every leader should give his children and followers the space and freedom to speak about their problems, ideas, fears,…etc.
Allah didn’t just listen to Musa (AS) but he also reassured him and told him that he will be with both of them (Musa and his Brother Harun), seeing and hearing what was happening. He told him he wanted both of them to go to Pharaoh and tell him they were the messengers of his God and that he had to send Beni-Israel with them and not torture them and ordered him to show him the miracles of Allah. Allah also ordered Musa (AS) to deliver to Pharaoh his message of peace.
Then Musa (AS) prayed for Allah and asked him to enable him to accomplish that mission and to make it easy for him and to provide him with a fluent tongue so that he would be convincing to the people he was going to speak to. He also asked Allah to provide him with an assistant from his family, namely Harun(AS), his brother to support and back him.
Allah accepted his prayers and provided him with what he asked for. Then Allah started to assure Musa (AS) by telling him his life story starting from where his mother put him in the cascade and threw him in the river Nile, in order to show him that he was always there for him and protecting him.
Allah never abandons those who work for him. He supports and protects them and provides them with all what they need.
Read Surah Ta-Ha tonight and live with the story.

Re: story of sayduna Musa, many lessons to learn!!!

Episode 10
In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All prayers and peace of Allah be upon our master, Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’).
The Qur’an was what did justice to Musa (AS[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’)) (Moses) against the claims that he does not, historically, exist. Some scientists, including Freud, went saying that he is no more than a myth, for not a single trace of him could be found on the paintings on the walls of the Phararonic temples. Moreover, there are not any evidences to prove the existance of Pharaoh’s huge army. I am just narrating what some scientists had said. These are not my words. What is your role, as a muslim, towards such claims? This is not something to make any of you happy just because Musa (AS) is Israelites’ prophet, for the Qur’an did justice to him. Furthermore, a quarter or even one third of the Quran is devoted to the biography of Musa (AS). Allah even says what can be translated as, “We make no distinction between any of His Messengers.”(TMQ, 2:285)[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’). Moreover, Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) says, “We (the Muslims) are closer to Musa than them,” for he knew, beforehand, about such claims.
Thus, you should all love Musa (AS) just as we love Prophet Muhammad (SAWS), for each of them contributed in founding the Islam. Each of them did that by laying a brick in the great structure of Islam. Musa’s (AS) brick was “peoples’ freedom”. He called for it before anybody else in Europe or America. It cannot be denied that the most famous story on rejecting injustice is that of Musa’s (AS).
Having tackled both stages of Musa’s (AS) preparation to carry the message, we reach the middle of the story. He is now a sent prophet, known as “the addressor of Allah”. It is time for him now to go back to Egypt and accomplish the most difficult mission, i.e. confronting Pharaoh. As he enters Egypt, he goes, first, to see his mother. She had to be alive so as to see Allah’s promise to her fulfilled, for Allah told her, and which can be translated as: “will make him one of the Emissaries.”(TMQ, 28:7). We should learn from this that Allah always carries out his promises sooner or later. After that, Musa (AS), courageously, along with his brother Harun (AS) (Aaron) went to Pharaoh. On their way there, Allah said to Musa (AS) what can be translated as: “Go, (both of you), to Pharaoh surely he has tyrannized. So speak (you both) leniently (Literally: say a lenient) to him, that possibly he would remind himself or would be apprehensive.” (TMQ, 20:43, 44). Can you see the contrast between Pharaoh’s tyranny, as mentioned in the first ayah[5]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn5/’), and the mercy of Allah in the second one? Moreover, this ayah shows how polite we should treat everyone, including our most bitter enemies. It makes me sad that some people may use swear words to get their rights, as a result of their over-enthusiasm. Once Haroun ar-Rashid –the Muslim Caliph- said to a man, who came to preach to him using harsh words, “O you man, why you are using such harsh words? You are not better than Musa, neither I am worse than Pharaoh!”
Why did Allah send Musa to Pharaoh in particular and not to the commom people like the case of Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)? The commons at the time either the Egyptians or the Israelites were insignificant, while the people of Makkah were free people. Second, Musa’s message was to let the Israelites get rid of their sumissivness to Pharoah. Thus, you parents should never beat your children or disgrace them or they will grow up to be disgraceful. Also, teachers should not beat or make fun of their students in front of their class mates. Instead, you should make men out of them. Third, Allah could have distroyed Pharaoh to put an end to his tyranny. However, the aim of the confrontation was to highlight the difference between the courageous and the cowards so that the people would learn from this.
After three whole years since leaving Egypt, Musa (AS) stands face to face with Pharaoh. What happens in this confrontation is recorded in Surat[6]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn6/’) ash-Shu’ara and Surat Ta-Ha for two reasons: for you to love, as well as look up to Musa (AS) for his courage and greatness; and to teach you that conversation, as opposed to violence, is the best way to solve problems. Both Musa (AS) and Pharaoh have precise agendas. As for Musa (AS), he has come for two reasons: to, publicly, declare his demands, namely to ask Pharaoh to pronounce the shahadah[7]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn7/’), and to ask him to give Israelites the freedom to accompany him outside Egypt; and to vanguish any feelings of terror towards Pharaoh. Pharaoh, on the other hand, was determined to destroy Musa (AS), psychologically. In order to win things to his side in this conversation, Musa (AS) needed to be both wise and smart, as well as be, psychologically, strong. Although Pharaoh must have tried to scare him, Musa (AS) was not, in the least affected.
Thus, Musa (AS) starts the first round as he was the one who came by himself. If you were him, how would you start? Actually, Musa (AS) is going to, clearly, list his aims and demands just as Allah (SWT) did with him. Similarly, you should all have precise aims for life or your life will be meaningless. Allah tells us what Musa (AS) said to Pharaoh that can be translated as: “We (both) are the Messenger of The Lord of the worlds. (Saying) Send forth with us the Seeds (Or: sons) of Israel)” (TMQ, 26: 16, 17). He also says what is narrated in Surat Ta-Ha: “we have already come to you with a sign from your Lord” (TMQ, 20:47). Musa was both clever and polite to say, “your Lord” to Pharaoh. He did not attack him, neither told him that he is not a god as he assumes. Similarly, we should always choose the language which we use.
Pharaoh ignored Musa’s words. Then Allah narrates his reply to Musa (AS) through what can be translated as, “Said he, “Did we not rear you among us as a newborn, and did you not linger among us years of your age? And you performed the performance you performed and you were one of the disbelievers.” (TMQ, 28: 18, 19). In a very clear and simple way, Musa (AS) replies, “lo, I performed it and I was of the erring. So I fled from you as soon as I feared you.” (TMQ, 28: 20, 21). Musa (AS) admitted that he has made a mistake, yet he balanced things by saying, “Then my Lord bestowed upon me judgment and He made me one of the Emissaries.” (TMQ, 28:21). As for Pharaoh raising him in his house, Musa (AS) replied, “And is that a favor you oblige me with, that you have taken the Seeds (Or: sons) of Israel) as slaves.” (TMQ 26:22). It is true that he raised Musa, but he also enslaved the Israelites. He honored one man and enslaved a whole nation.
Having been defeated by Musa (AS), Pharaoh decided to turn to round two. Allah (SWT) says, what can be translated as, “Who then is the Lord of both of you, O M*usa?” (TMQ, 20:49). By choosing the words “the Lord of both of you”, Pharaoh is hinting at the issue of gods’ multiplicity. Musa (AS), on the other hand, understands the hidden meaning behind his words. Thus, he answers him in what can be translated as, “The Lord of the east and the west and whatever is between them (both), in case you (can) consider.” (TMQ, 26:28). Pharaoh, in return, started to make fun of Musa (AS) in front of the attendees. However, he realized that they became, strongly, affected by the courage of Musa (AS). Being cornered, Pharaoh resorts to violence. He says to Musa, “Indeed in case you take to yourself a god other than me, indeed I will definitely make you one of the imprisoned.” (TMQ, 29:26). Here, we learn that we should never end our arguments with our children with a serious punishment, or they will, unconsciously, learn to use violence as a solution.
Then, starts round three, which depends on action rather than words. Musa (AS) decided that it was the perfect time to give Pharaoh evidences to prove what he said. Thus, he threw his stick to the floor of Pharaoh’s palace, making it turn into a gigantic snake, and draws his hand which has turned white although his skin is dark. The two miracles created a kind of balance for the effect of the former is astonishing and scary, while that of the latter is tender. Imagine how terrified Pharaoh was. Consequently, he said what can be translated as, “Surely this is indeed a knowledgeable sorcerer. Who would like to drive you out of your land by his sorcery; so what do you command?” (TMQ, 26:34, 35). Having realized that this is not sorcery, the attendees, being now on Musa’s (AS) side, suggest organizing a debate with him and the sorcerers. At the end, it has been decided that this debate will take place on an Egyptian feast day, where thousands of people will witness.
Having a precise message and being on the right path, Musa (AS) won the debate, for he declared his demands, as he wished, and gained a tremendous psychological power. Moreover, the people of Israel understood that it was not enough for Musa (AS) and Harun (AS) to work on their (the Egyptians) freedom on their own. Instead, they have to ask for their rights by themselves. Furthermore, all the attendees, including Asya and Pharaoh’s cousin, start to believe in what Musa (AS) had told them. Thus, Musa (AS) won without Pharaoh realizing that. You, too, have to be always on the right path. Allah tells us these stories through the Qur’an to learn from them. This is the aim of the campaign “We will live by the Qur’an”.
Until we meet again.

Episode 11
In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3614.html#_ftn1), The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All prayers and peace of Allah be upon Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3614.html#_ftn2).

Last episode, we stopped when Musa (AS) (Moses) defied Pharaoh alone; he was so strong in his belief, brave and self-confident. They agreed on an appointment on the Adornment Day (Easter - Sham Elnesim Day) at noon. In this episode, Musa (AS) and Harun are going to confront 10.000 Egyptian magicians. What is going to happen?

The Glorious Quran depicts this confrontation in surat[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3614.html#_ftn3) Ta-Ha and ash-Shu’ara. Allah says in the Glorious Quran what can be translated as, "He (M*usa) said, “Your appointment shall be upon the adornment day, (i.e., the feast day) and let the multitudes be mustered at the forenoon.” (TMQ, 20:59). Why did Musa choose Adornment Day in particular? He did so as it was a national feast. Musa (AS) here declares a significant point: I’m with Egyptians celebrating with them in their national feasts. Religion is not against patriotism and loving one’s country. The point here is that Musa(AS) even with his different beliefs is still celebrating with all Egyptians in their feasts.

Our value today is that of what is one’s right. Right is stronger than all materialistic powers. If you have a right, you will be the strongest. We are not here to depict a scene or narrate a story. If you have a right, declare it. The right of someone is very powerful. So, live for the sake of your rights; never be cawardly. Don’t be afraid, never. If right is in one side and your personal interests are on the other side, never prefer your own interests over what is right. Say the truth in your job, your town, and your city as well as your country; say it with your wife. Devote your life for the sake of the truth. Don’t let yourself utter a false testimony or tell lies. Our parable says right is victorious. Allah makes right triumph over vanity. If right has not been acieved, vanity will continue; if right does not prevail, vanity will replace another vanity.

Let’s now open surat Ta-Ha starting from the ayah[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/articles/articles3614.html#_ftn4) no.59. Do you remember how Omar Ibnul-Khattab converted to Islam? Reading the first aya of surat Ta-Ha, Omar responded to right as he loved everything that was right.

How foolish was it for the Pharoah to gather hundreds of thousands of people to see Musa’s miracle, in a place similar to the Roman Theatre. Imagine a stage where Pharaoh, his wife Assya, and cousin- who will believe in Allah later- magicians, Musa (AS) and Harun as well as the crowded spectators are all gathered to see an interesting scene: Pharoah and his 10.000 magicians are challenged by just one person of Israilities. What an exciting scene!

Pharoah ordered his magicians as mentioned in the Glorious Qur’an, "So gather your plotting, (and) there- after come up in ranks; (i.e., in battle, ranks) and whoever seeks exaltedness today will readily prosper.” (TMQ, 20:64). Apparently, the Pharoah was not ashamed of his vanity. Hence, never be ashamed of your commitment to your religion, to your veil, my sister.

Musa (AS) entered the stage beside his brother Harun confronting 10.000 magicians. He was not scared, as he believed that Allah has called himself The Truth and will reveal the truth. On the other hand, Magicians were dreaming of their gifts, high positions and authorities as Pharoah promised them. Pharoah started to provoke magicians to defend their career; otherwise Musa (AS) will have the upper hand in magic and let them idle. The Glorious Quran depicts Pharoah’s and Haman’s speech to magicians speaking about Musa and Harun as follows, “They said, “Decidedly these two (men) are indeed (both) sorcerers; they would (like) to drive you out of your land by their sorcery, and go away with your exemplary mode (of life). So gather your plotting, (and) there- after come up in ranks” (TMQ, 20:63). Therefore, Pharaoh threatened to dismiss the magicians in case they did not do what he ordered them.

Pharaoh began to address Musa, as mentioned in Qur’an, "He said, “Have you come to us to drive us out of our land by your sorcery, O Musa? (TMQ, 20:57). In this moment, Musa attempted to gave a piece of advice to the magicians warning, " Musa said to them, “Woe to you! Do not fabricate a lie against Allah (or) then He will eradicate you with a torment; and whoever fabricates (a lie) is readily disappointed.” (TMQ, 20:61). Musa (AS) started saying the word of the truth by advice. He was not afraid to do so. Never be ashamed of telling the truth and declaring right.

Musa’s words excited arguments and doubts among magicians. Allah says, “Then they contended among themselves their command, (Or: their affair) and they conferred in secret” (TMQ, 20:62). (i.e., in battle, ranks) and whoever seeks exaltedness today will readily prosper.” (TMQ, 20:64)

When the magicians saw Musa, they believed that this was not the face of a magician. Once, a jew came to Madina to ask our prophet Muhammad (SAWS) some questions and make sure of his prophecy. When he saw his face, he knew he was truthful.

In the very beginning of the confrontation, Musa (AS) began speaking to the magicians. He chose to let them throw first. He was not afraid as he was on the right side. "They said, “O Mu*sa, either you will cast, or we will be the first to cast. He said, “No indeed, you cast!” Then only then, their ropes and their staffs were made to appear to him, by their sorcery, to be gliding along. (TMQ, 20:65-66). Musa (AS) imagined as if their ropes were walking like a snake. Of course, the spectators uttered in a high voice, “Woo” affected by their magic.

The following ayah confirms Musa (AS) is a human being, who feels and fears like all of us. “So Mu*sa entertained a fright within himself” (TMQ, 20:67). Are we like Musa (AS) or the Israelites? We have the miracle of Qur’an: do we have fear like Musa? Some of the magicians were real magicians and the others were scientists who brought pipes full of hot mercury to heat and move on a hot land, throwing 10.000 ropes, pipes, and sticks.

In this moment, Allah says, “We said (to Musa), “Do not fear (anything); surely you (yourself) are the most exalted” (TMQ, 20:68). It was narrated that Jibril (AS) (Gabriel) came to Musa saying to him; “Be patient to these magicians: they are Allah’s pious righteous men; they will be with you from noon to the afternoon, and then will enter paradise”. Therefore, we do have hope that Allah will have mercy on us to enter paradise. When we prostrate, we get nearer to paradise despite our sins, as Allah is merciful.

Then, Allah ordered Musa, "And cast down what is in your right (hand). It will gulp what they have worked out; surely what they have worked out is only the plotting of a sorcerer; and the sorcerer will not prosper where he comes up.” (TMQ, 20:69). In no time, Musa’s stick turned into a snake, which swallowed and devoured their ropes. Therefore, right devoured what they brought 10.000 ropes: it is a real miracle, as they would not have any tools to continue challenge; Musa’s snake swallowed all their tools, so they have nothing to present in this challenge.

As a result, the magicians surrendered and believed in Allah. The Glorious Qur’an narrates this scene, "Then the sorcerers were (all) cast down constantly prostrating. They said, “We believe in The Lord of Haru*n and Musa.” (TMQ, 20:70). The magicians looked as if they were pulled by a magnet. This is exactly what happened to Omar; when he listened to surat Ta-Ha; he believed at once. Musa thanked Allah. The Israelites said, ‘There is no god but Allah’. They looked at the Pharaoh as if they were saying to him, “You are not a god. Perhaps, his wife Assya said I believe in Allah; 10.000 Egyptian noble magicians declared they would live for what they believe in, no matter what the consequences would be.”

Pharaoh claimed that the magicians conspired with Musa to do so and threatened to punish the magicians and torture them saying, "He (pharaoh) said, “Have you believed him before I gave permission (to do so)? Surely he is indeed your great (master) who has taught you sorcery; so indeed I will definitely cut off (The from of the verb implies an action done repeatedly or to great extent or high degree. Of surat Yusuf 31) your hands and legs, alternately; and indeed I will definitely crucify you upon the trunks of palm-trees; and indeed you will definitely know whichever of us is more strict in torment and more enduring.” (TMQ, 20:71).

The magicians shouted constantly, “We will never prefer you over the supreme evidences that have come to us, nor over Him Who originated us; so decree whatever you will decree; surely you will only decree touching this present life (Literally: this lowly life, i.e., the life of this world). Surely we believe in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and the sorcery you have compelled us to (practice); and Allah is The Most Charitable and The Most Enduring. Surely whoever comes up to his Lord a criminal, then surely for him will be Hell wherein he will neither die nor live. And whoever comes up to Him a believer, having already done deeds of righteousness, then those, for them are the exalted degrees. Gardens of Adn, (Eden) from beneath which rivers run, eternally (abiding) therein, and that is the recompense of him who has cleansed (himself). (TMQ, 20:72-76).

All of us will die; it does not matter to put an end to our life as long as Allah is pleased with us. We all have hope in the mercy of Allah; whatever sins and vices you have committed, you can repent to Allah at any time and Allah will forgive and eradicate all your sins.

Pharoah ordered his soldiers to kill all magicians; a trully criminal act. Why did the magicians die? Why didn’t Allah save them like Musa? They should have been killed by Pharoah so that Israeilties would believe in Allah. As for Musa (AS), he should live to complete his mission.

Please read, today, surat Ta-Ha and ash-Shu’ara. Also log into www.amrkhaled.net, download the sticker of the campaign “We Will Live By the Qur’an”, and stick it in as many places as possible. We want the spectators of the program to finish reading the Quran 10,000,000 times. Let’s live for the truth. What will Egyptians do? We will see in the next episode, insha’Allah.

Episode 12
In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All prayers and peace of Allah be upon our master, Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’).
Almost half of the month has passed by now. Are you satisfied with your relationship with Allah? If you haven’t yet exerted as much effort as you should, then do. Ramadan can be likened to winter, for the creatures, during summer, suffer from dehydration. This state ends with the coming of winter, with its rain, which supplies the creatures with enough food and drink for the rest of the year. Similarly, Ramadan supplies us with spiritual energy, love to Allah and values enough for the rest of the year, until the next Ramadan.
Actually, I have a dream. I dream of Egyptian youth with the traits of the true Egyptian spirit. My dream extends to the young people in the entire Arab World. They should have ten traits: to have much experience and knowledge of life; cultured; to know the history of their country and benefit from it; smart and wise; devoted to his country; positive; have the ability to present and introduce themselves using different approaches; courageous when it comes to speaking the truth; believers. Most people think that being religious only means to be a believer. However, it is a combination of those ten traits.
What has taken place on the sorcerers’ day resulted in two things: first, Israelites were, strongly, influenced by the leading, honest, courageous, rational character of Musa (AS)[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’) who is, completely, devoted to his message; Second, many Egyptians believed in Musa’s (AS) message, but kept it as a secret. Some were remarkable figures and others were simple and poor. Among the latter was the hairdresser of Pharaoh’s daughter. While she was combing the girl’s hair, the comb fell from her hand, and she, unconsciously, uttered the name of Allah.
“You mean father, don’t you?” asked the girl.
“No, Allah is my God as well as yours and your father’s,” replied the hairdresser, and, being affected by Musa (AS) as well as following the sorcerers’ example, she spilled out all that she has kept secret.
Immediately, the girl told her father, Pharaoh, about this. Consequently, he ordered for her four children to be fetched. Then he asked her, “Do you have another god besides me?”
“Allah is my God as well as yours,” she would reply. He kept asking her the same question before he burned each of her first three children alive, and she would give the same reply. Until the youngest one, who was a baby, was left. She was about to revert when her baby spoke out and told her she is on the right path and she shouldn’t be afraid. Then, they burned them both. Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) narrates that, as he was making al-mi’raj[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’), he smelt the sweetest scent ever. When he asked Jibril (AS) (Gabriel) about it, he told him that it’s the scent of Pharaoh’s daughter’s hairdresser and her four children. Put in mind, young people, that on hearing these stories, you should act rationally and courageously, yet think wisely before making any move.
Although it might seem that, after killing the simple hairdresser, Pharaoh had got rid of such troubles, he never knew that he had a much bigger danger awaiting him- Asya believed in Musa’s (AS) message as well. It seems that Pharaoh started to torture her for it is mentioned in the Qur’an what can be translated as, “Lord! Build for me a house in your Providence in the Garden, and safely deliver me from Pharaoh and his deed (s), and safely deliver me from the unjust people!”(TMQ, 66:11). What makes her great is that she was not dazzled by the luxuries of life like most women are, and chose Allah’s path over all these. Many women do want to get veiled and be on the right path. However, they are too attracted by fashion, brands and lights to be on the right path.
Sensing the growing danger towards him, Pharaoh says, as mentioned in the Qur’an, “Leave me (alone) (i.e., Keep away from me) to kill Musa, and let him invoke his Lord.” (TMQ, 40:26). In this very moment, a new character appeared in the story. He is Pharaoh’s cousin as well as one of his chief counselors. He believed in Musa’s (AS) message long ago, but thought it was not the right thing to speak up the truth until this moment came. His name was not mentioned in the Qur’an, but he was described as a “believer” to draw our attention to this trait of his.
Being cornered, Pharaoh orders that Musa (AS) should be sentenced to death. At this very moment, the believer took a step forward and says what can be translated as, “Will you kill a man for that he says, ‘My Lord is Allah,’ and he has come to you with the supreme evidence (s) from your Lord? And in case he is a liar, then his lying is upon himself, and in case he is sincere, some of that which he promises you will alight on you. Surely Allah does not guide him who is extravagant, a constant liar.” (TMQ, 40:28). He uses the rational approach to provide a powerful reason for not killing Musa (AS).
After that, the believer moved to a different approach. He said what can be translated as, “O my people, today the kingdom is yours, you being topmost in the land; yet who will vindicate us against the violence of Allah in case it comes upon us?” (TMQ, 40:29). He is speaking in terms of patriotism. Thus, it is not true, as some may think, that religion contradicts patriotism. Having a very good historical background, he warned them against the consequences of killing the innocent, for this, according to history, always leads to the fall of nations. In other words, he was, indirectly, telling them that they should put an end to Pharaoh’s tyranny.
Thus, Pharaoh thought that taking the people’s opinion concerning killing Musa (AS) is, no longer, a good idea. He says what Allah narrates and can be translated as, “In no way would I let you see except what I see, and in no way do I guide you except in the way of right-mindedness.”(TMQ, 40:29). The believer, however, ignored him and started to use the emotional approach. He said what can be translated as, “O my people, surely I fear for you the like of the Day of the (allied) parties. The like of the steadfast manner of the people of Nuh, (Noah) and Aad, and Thamû
d and the ones even after them; and in no way does Allah will an injustice for (His) bondmen” (TMQ, 40:30, 31).
After that, he speaks in terms of belief in the Day of Judgment, for the Egyptians believed in it. He says what can be translated as, “And O my people, surely I fear for you the Day of Summoning. The Day you turn away, withdrawing; in no way would there be a safeguard for you from Allah; and whomever Allah leads into error, then in no way would anyone be a guide for him.”(TMQ, 40:32, 33). In other words, he is telling them, politely and indirectly, that when that say comes, Pharaoh will never bother turning to them. Similarly, if you want to make an objection about somebody’s opinion or words, you should not do it in an uncivilized way by publishing it on the web or anything of the sort.
Then, the believer shifts to the historical approach. He says what can be translated as, “And indeed Yusuf (Joseph) already came to you earlier with the supreme evidence (s), yet in no way did you cease being in doubt concerning what he came to you with, until, when he perished, you said, ‘Allah will never send forth (any) Messenger even after him.’ Thus Allah leads into error him who is extravagant and (always) suspicious.”(TMQ, 40:34). He wanted to tell them that there is no difference between Musa (AS) and Yusuf (AS), for both came with the same message.
In an attempt to draw the peoples’ attention, Pharaoh said what can be described as, “O Haman, build for me a tower that possibly I would reach the means (of ascension); The means of the heavens, (and) so view the God of Mu*sa, and surely I expect him to be a liar indeed.” (TMQ, 40: 36-37). On the other hand, the believer found that this was the perfect time to speak about himself and declare his belief in Musa’s (AS) message. He said what can be translated as, “And he who believed said, ‘O my people, closely follow me; I will guide you in the way of right-mindedness… Then you will soon remember what I say to you; and I confide my Command (Or: my affair) to Allah. Surely Allah is Ever-Beholding (His) bondmen.’ So Allah protected him against the odious (things) of their scheming, and an odious torment redounded on the house of Pharaoh.”(TMQ, 40:38-45)
The price which the believer paid in return to this was that he lost his position among Pharaoh and his opponents. Unfortunately, some people are not ready to sacrifice for the sake of saying the truth. However, Allah protected him from Pharaoh and his soldiers, who attempted to kill him. Some might ask why he stayed alive, while the hairdresser died. Allah may want to tell us from this that we should do right thing and leave the rest to Allah. Tomorrow we will see how both Pharaoh and Musa (AS) are going to react. It seems that Musa’s (AS) residence in Egypt is about to come to an end. Pharaoh will never dare, after that day, to threaten to kill Musa (AS). On the other hand, Allah, as well as Musa (AS), has a surprise for Pharaoh. Don’t forget to login to www.amrkhaled.net, where you can download the believer’s traits. See you tomorrow. peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you.

Episode 13

In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All Prayers and Blessings of Allah be upon our master, the most noble Prophet, Muhammad (SAWS)[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’).
Welcome to our new episode. Let us revise the sequence in the story of Musa (AS)[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’) (Moses). Musa (AS) returned from Madian, Allah (SWT) spoke to him at Mount Tor, and assigned him the following tasks; confronting the Pharaoh, eliminating injustice, and taking the people of Israel out of Egypt.
Today’s episode begins with a serious incident: earth’s swallowing up of Qarun. He was one of Musa’s (AS) people. Allah (SWT) says what can be translated as, “Indeed, Qarun was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them” (TMQ, 28:76).[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’) Qarun betrayed his people and spied on them. He did this for more wealth and to help the Pharaoh persecute and dominate Musa (AS) and the people of Israel. After Qarun’s death, the Pharaoh lost most of the financial and economic powers that supported him.
All the above-mentioned events took place in Egypt and lasted for 15 years, beginning with Musa confronting the Pharaoh and ending with Musa going out of Egypt. The message was revealed to Musa when he was 40 and he remained for 15 years calling people to worship Allah (SWT). Like Musa, Prophet Muhammed (SAWS) received the message at the age of 40 and after 15 years, he fought the disbelievers in the battle of Badr. During this period, Allah revealed to Muhammed (SAWS) verses from the Qur’an relaying the story of Musa (AS).
Allah (SWT) sent the Pharaoh many opportunities to repent, but he insisted on rejecting faith because of pride and vanity. Allah (SWT) says what can be translated as, “And they rejected them, while their [inner] selves were convinced thereof, out of injustice and haughtiness” (TMQ, 27:14). Gradually, Allah (SWT) stripped him of his powers. First, Allah (SWT) deprived him of reason and logical proof in the first confrontation between him and Musa (AS). Second, Allah (SWT) stripped the Pharaoh of his powers when Musa (AS) threw down his staff and his hand came out white. Third, he was defeated when Asia (his wife) embraced Musa’s faith. Fourth, he was defeated when another believer appeared within his family. Fifth, after killing the sorcerers, he was defeated by the media. Sixth, when Qarun and his fortunes were swallowed by the earth, the Pharaoh was overcome economically.
Musa (AS) also found out that because of the Pharaoh’s persecution of the people of Israel, they were transformed from a noble people to a downtrodden people. The people of Israel said to Musa, “’We have been harmed before you came to us and after you have come to us.’ He said, ‘Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy and grant you succession in the land and see how you will do’” (TMQ, 7:129). Musa (AS) was subjected to great distress from the Pharaoh and from the people of Israel whom he struggled and sacrificed a lot for. Similarly, when Prophet Muhammed (SAWS) was harmed, he was heard to have said that may Allah have mercy upon Musa (AS), for he was subjected to great distress but he was patient. Musa (AS) wanted the people of Israel to have strong belief in Allah (SWT) and to work hard so that if Allah gave them the responsibility of reforming earth, they would qualify. We all see the condition of Muslims today, but instead of blaming fate, we have to get ourselves and our children prepared to be of benefit to Muslims and to serve Islam.
Oppression begets servility and servility begets nervous breakdowns. Inner selves become distorted and minds are retarded due to servility, likewise drugs cause retardation. Allah (SWT) says what can be translated as, “But no one believed Moses, except [some] youths among his people, for fear of Pharaoh and his establishment that they would persecute them . . .” (TMQ, 10:83). That is why Musa (AS) focused on the youth. The greatest treasure in our Arab world today is our youth but unfortunately, no one concerns themselves with them. Prophet Muhammed (SAWS) was once heard to have said that when he started calling for Islam, it was youth that believed in him first not the elders. Similarly, when Ibrahim (AS) (Abraham) broke the idols, he was a young man. Likewise, in the case of Yahya (AS) (John), Allah (SWT) says what can be translated, “. . . And We gave him judgment [while yet] a boy” (TMQ, 19:12). Lady Maryam was a young woman and so was Maryam (Musa’s sister) who saved him. We have to consider youth a hope and youth have to trust in themselves. “And Moses said, ‘O my people, if you have believed in Allah , then rely upon Him, if you should be Muslims’” (TMQ, 10:84).
The value you should learn from today’s story is that you should pay attention when Allah (SWT) sends warning signs to you. You should not neglect His warning signs thinking that Allah (SWT) has left you because once He (SWT) punishes you; He (SWT) will do it severely. Do not insist on oppressing others or committing a sin because of stubbornness and pride.
When Musa asked the Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out with him the Pharaoh refused. He did this for three reasons. The first reason was a military one; the people of Israel had been the subjects of his persecution; therefore he was anxious that they may form a strong state of 500,000 and threaten him. Similarly, this was the reason why Quraysh rejected the Prophet’s (SAWS) going out of Makkah to Madinah.[5]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn5/’)
The second reason was a political one. Had the Pharaoh let them go, the strength of his state would have weakened and the Pharaoh would have fallen. Consequently, he felt forced to continue oppressing them and as a result Allah (SWT) tightened the circle around him. The Pharaoh could not solve this dilemma because of his excessive injustice; he was forced to find justifications for his oppression. The third reason was a personal reason and this was his stubbornness and pride. The Pharaoh did not accept that Musa (AS) opposed his objections against him going out with the people of Israel.
Consequently, seven warning signs were sent to the Pharaoh. The first warning sign was an extreme famine. This famine reminded them of Yusuf (AS) (Joseph), as if Allah (SWT) wanted to remind them of Musas’s (AS) grandfather who dealt with this problem in the past. Had people believed in Musa (AS), he would have solved their problem because these signs were evidently sent by Allah (SWT). However, they rejected out of injustice and haughtiness. The Pharaoh ascribed the famine to Musa’s (AS) deeds instead of reconsidering his actions. When Musa (AS) told the Pharaoh that this sign was from Allah (SWT), he replied, “And they said, ‘No matter what sign you bring us with which to bewitch us, we will not be believers in you’” (TMQ, 7:132).
The second warning sign was the flood that ruined the cultivated lands. When the flood subsided, a third sign appeared which was the swarms of locust that destroyed crops. All these signs targeted Egypt’s economy which was based on agriculture. After the locusts disappeared, the fourth warning sign was the appearance of a certain kind of insect. This insect damaged crops and destroyed them before they grew. As a result, people barely had anything to eat. The fifth sign was the appearance of frogs that spread in the fields and the Nile river. The sixth warning sign was blood. The color of the Nile turned to red like blood for a few days. People wanted to drink from wells but the color of the water was like blood. Allah (SWT) says what can be translated as, “So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood. . .” (TMQ, 7:133). The last sign was the punishment represented in the plague.
These warning signs were proofs that Allah (SWT) is The Ever-Forbearing who gives people opportunities before punishing them. His mercy makes you too ashamed to disobey Him (SWT). However, if you do not take advantage of these opportunities, He will punish you.
Today we have many signs such as the spread of disease around the world and global economic crisis, so pay attention to Allah’s (SWT) warnings. I do not want you to leave hard work and labour, but you have to balance between the two concepts. When the Prophet (SAWS) returned from at-Ta’ef after being beaten by its people, he asked Allah (SWT) whether this was a warning sign that he should heed. When you go through this experience, you have to reconsider your deeds because the experience could be a form of distress that will win you a higher degree in paradise if you are patient and persevere or it could be a warning alert. If you use your power to be unjust to others, remember that Allah (SWT) is The Omnipotent.
Musa (AS) supplicated to Allah (SWT) as he was sincere and devoted himself to his message. When the Prophet (SAWS) had conquered Makkah, he set people of Makkah free, after 20 years of harming Muslims. A true believer does not hold a grudge against painful memories. “But when We removed the punishment from them until a term which they were to reach, then at once they broke their word” (TMQ, 7:135).
Allah says what can be translated as, “And when the punishment descended upon them, they said, ‘O Moses, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. If you [can] remove the punishment from us, we will surely believe you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel’ (TMQ, 7:134). After they had believed and the punishment had been removed, they broke their word, “So We took retribution from them, and We drowned them in the sea because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them (TMQ, 7:136). Allah (SWT) says what can be translated, “And We had certainly given Moses nine evident signs, so ask the Children of Israel [about] when he came to them and Pharaoh said to him, ‘Indeed I think, O Moses, that you are affected by magic.’ [Moses] said, ‘You have already known that none has sent down these [signs] except the Lord of the heavens and the earth as evidence, and indeed I think, O Pharaoh, that you are destroyed.’ So he intended to drive them from the land, but We drowned him and those with him all together” (TMQ, 17:101-103).
The Pharaoh gave his last speech, “And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, ‘O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see? Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear? Then why have there not been placed upon him bracelets of gold or come with him the angels in conjunction?’” (TMQ, 43:51-53). Musa (AS) took the initiative and prepared to get out of Egypt with the people of Israel at night before the Pharaoh’s army destroyed them.

Re: story of sayduna Musa, many lessons to learn!!!

Episode 14
In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All Prayers and Blessings of Allah be upon our master, the most noble Prophet, Muhammad (SAWS)[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’).
Today’s episode is a conclusive one. In today’s episode, Musa (AS)[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’) (Moses) and the people of Israel will move from Egypt, the sea will be split for them and the Pharaoh will be drowned. Today’s episode represents a great moral, “Feel the Sovereignty and Greatness of Allah if you are oppressed and fear Him if you are an oppressor.” I invite all of you to review this story while contemplating the Name of Allah “The Ever-Magnificent”. Fill your hearts with the essence of this name every time you bow in your prayers saying, “Glory be to Allah, The Ever-Magnificent”. Throughout this episode, every oppressed and weak person must feel and realize the power of Allah to support him, while every oppressor must realize the power of Allah over him. It is to show how Allah, the Ever-Magnificent and The Almighty, avenges the oppressors.
Let me remind you that the slogan of this program this year is “to live by the Qur’an”. That’s why I want everyone to realize that the Ever-Glorious Qur’an is not just words to be recited without feeling its meanings. We have to feel the power and might of Allah through Qur’an. Let us begin today’s story by explaining how Musa and the people of Israel left Egypt.
Allah commanded Musa (AS) to leave Egypt and to take the people of Israel. Allah says what can be translated as, “And We revealed to Mûsa, (saying), “Set forth with My bondmen by night. Surely you will be closely followed” (TMQ[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’): 26-52).
The map illustrating the route that Musa and the people of Israel took is available on www.amrkhaled.net. You can see it to know that Musa and his people left Egypt secretly at night where they first stopped in Sinai then went up to enter the holy land of Palestine. However, they did not enter it and it was destined for the ummah (Muslim nation) of Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) to be the ones to enter Palestine. They continued their trip towards Jordon where they were lost and went astray.
I want you to notice how much effort Musa (AS) exerted in the cause of Allah (SWT)[5]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn5/’) and how he offered his entire life in suffering. This brings to my mind the example of the two great scholars, al-Imam al-Shafi’ and Imam Ahmed ibn-Hanbal. The lives of these scholars are representations of the life of Prophet Musa (AS). They spent their life in continuous travel.
Now, I want you to imagine the scene of the people of Israel and Musa (AS) while they were hastening to leave Egypt at night in compliance with the command of Allah. Musa (AS), Harun (AS) (Aaron), their mother and sister, Maryam all were leaving together at night. Harun was knocking on the doors of the houses of the people of Israel to hurry them up. Musa (AS) was aware that the Pharaoh will follow them with his soldiers. The Pharaoh, immediately, started to gather his soldiers and forces, the Qur’an says what can be translated as, “Then Firaawn sent among the cities musterers” (TMQ: 26-53). This act took him a while. In the meantime, Musa (AS) and the people of Israel were approaching the sea.
Here, it is worthy to mention that everyone reaps the fruits of his deeds. That is why Allah (SWT) decreed for the Pharaoh who tortured the people of Israel by killing them and their children and throwing them in the Nile to be drowned in the sea. Here, let me ask a question, “Did all the people of Israel leave with Musa (AS)?” Yes, all of them went out with Musa (AS) at night. However, most of them left because they had no other choice, while others were true believers and were persistent in defending truth and defending themselves against the Pharaoh’s oppression and torture. Here we can draw a picture comparing the case of the companions of the Prophet (SAWS) and the people of Israel. The former emigrated to Madinah with their own free will for the sake of the message, while the latter left Egypt to avoid the oppression and torture of the Pharaoh.
Let me ask you a question, “If you were among the people of Israel, which group would you follow? Those who had faith and trust in Allah or those who were negative, oppressed and wanted to escape torture?”
Now, we are back to the final scene in the life of the Pharaoh and his soldiers. He used provocative words to gather and urge his armies on. The Qur’an says what can be translated as, “Then Firaawn sent among the cities musterers. Surely these are indeed a gang of a few (persons), And surely they are indeed enraging us, And surely we are indeed all wary” (TMQ: 26-53-56).
The Pharaoh, his soldiers, forces, arms approached while Musa (AS) and the people of Israel were near the sea. Allah disposes everything and chooses. This is the way Allah punishes the oppressors, it is illustrated in the Qur’an in what can be translated as, “and if you had made a mutual appointment, you would indeed have differed about the promised appointment, but that Allah might decree a Command that was to be performed, that whoever perished might perish by a supreme evidence, and whoever lived might live by a supreme evidence; and surely Allah is indeed Ever-Hearing, Ever-Knowing” (TMQ: 8-42).
I would like you to imagine the feelings of the people of Israel when they saw the soldiers of the Pharaoh approaching the sea. They said what can be translated as, “Then, as soon as the two gatherings sighted each other, the companions of M
ûsa (Moses) said, ‘Surely we are indeed overtaken!’” (TMQ: 26-61).
They seemed to implicitly reproach him for bringing them to this situation before the Pharaoh. They thought that they would be overtaken by the soldiers of the Pharaoh. However, Musa (AS) was firm and had trust and belief in the power of Allah, The Almighty. He said what can be translated as, “He said, ‘Not at all. Surely my Lord is with me; He will soon guide me’” (TMQ: 26-62). He was sure that Allah will never let him down. Allah, at once, revealed the matter to him. He gave him a command that can be translated as, “Then We revealed to Mûsa, (saying), ‘Strike with your staff the sea.’ So it split, and each (separate) part was as a tremendous towering mountain” (TMQ: 26-63). This represents a new miracle by which Allah supported his prophet. This is Allah when He wants something, He just says to it “be” and it is. All this was done by the power and will of Allah, The Almighty. We must put our trust in Allah and never fear anything or anyone as long as we believe in Him.
The Pharaoh, who used to accuse Musa of sorcery, hesitated whether or not to cross the sea in order to catch Musa (AS). The reason for his drowning in the sea was because he was too embarrassed in front of his soldiers not to cross the sea to catch Musa. Allah ordered the sea to drown him and all his soldiers who took part in oppressing and torturing innocent people. So, beware of helping or supporting the oppressors or you will be among them. Allah says what can be translated as, “And leave the sea becalmed; (Or: furrowed) surely they are a drowned host” (TMQ: 44-24).
At this moment, the Pharaoh realized that he will meet his end by drowning in the sea. He said what can be translated as, “then Firaawn and his hosts followed them up inequitably and aggressively till, when the drowning overtook him, he said, ‘I believe that there is no god except He in Whom the Seeds of believe, and I am one of the Muslims.’ Do you (believe) now? And before (that) you readily disobeyed, and you were (one) of the corruptors. So today We will (safely) deliver you with your body that you may be a sign to the ones succeeding you; and surely many among mankind are indeed heedless of Our signs” (TMQ: 10:90-92).
This is the end that Allah decreed for those who wrong others unjustly. Here, the third stage of Musa’s life comes to an end. He is now 55 years old and he achieved the first goal and mission for which Allah has chosen him. It can be translated as, “send (forth) with us the Seeds (Or: sons) of Israel)” (TMQ: 20:47). This was the first stage which was to get the people of Israel out of Egypt. The second stage was to settle down and establish the ummah.
Another point that I need to highlight in this regard is why the Prophet (SAWS) recommended that we fast on the day of ‘ashura’. This is because it is the day on which Allah saved Musa and the people of Israel. So, the Prophet wanted Muslims to observe this day in order to love Musa. We also have to reflect on the difference that occurred in the figure of the Pharaoh who was transformed from a tyrant into a dead body and that even he could not push death away. Imagine his situation on the Day of Judgment upon hearing the verses of Qur’an revealed on him. This can be represented in the verses of the chapter of “Ghafer” which can be translated as, “and an odious torment redounded on the house of Firaawn: (Pharaoh). The Fire. They will be set before it in the early morning and at nightfall, and on the Day when the Hour (comes) up, ‘Make the house of Firaawn (Pharaoh) to enter into the strictest torment.’ And as they argue among themselves in the Fire, so the weak will say to the ones who waxed proud, ‘Surely we were a following to you; will you then avail us against any assignment of the Fire?’ The ones who waxed proud will say, ‘Surely every one of us is in it; surely Allah has already judged among (His) bondmen.’ And the ones who are in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, ‘Invoke your Lord to lighten for us one day of the torment!’ They will say, ‘And did your Messengers not come up to you with the supreme evidence (s)?’ They will say, ‘Yes indeed.’ They will say, ‘Then do you invoke!’ And in no way is the invocation of the disbelievers in anything except in error. Surely We indeed vindicate Our Messengers and the ones who have believed in the present life (Literally: lowly life, i.e., the life of this world) and upon the Day when the (noble) Witnesses rise up, The Day when their ready excuse (s) will not profit the unjust, and theirs will be the curse, and theirs the odious Residence. And indeed We already brought M
ûsa (Moses) the guidance, and We caused the Seeds (Or: sons of Israel) to inherit the Book, A guide and a Reminding for the ones endowed with intellects. So (endure) patiently; (This is addressed to the Prophet) surely the promise of Allah is true. And ask forgiveness for your guilty (deed), and extol with the praise of your Lord at nightfall and before the rising of the sun” (TMQ: 40:45-55).
To conclude, feel the Might and Greatness of Allah and ask His forgiveness.
peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you.

Re: story of sayduna Musa, many lessons to learn!!!

Episode 15

In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), The All-Merciful, The Ever Merciful. All praises be to Allah, all prayers and blessings of Allah be upon our master, the noblest Prophet Muhammad.
Welcome to this episode. We have already reached the middle of Ramadan. The days have passed very quickly, as Allah says what can be translated as, “(The fast is) (for) a prescribed number of days.” (TMQ[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’), 2:184). What have you done in these days? What will you do to be rescued from hellfire? Whoever was negligent in the first half of Ramadan, can compensate for it in the second half. The Night of Determination is still at the end of Ramadan. Maybe some one is now listening to us while his heart moves to redirect his life towards acceptance, mercy, forgiveness, jannah (paradise) and relief from hellfire.
The next point I want to ask about is how many times have you completed reading the Qur’an so far? Do your best in the coming days, for our Prophet (SAWS)[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’) urged us to read the Qur’an because it will intercede on behalf of its reader on the Day of Judgment.
The Prophet (SAWS) called Ramadan the month of Qur’an, and our campaign this month is “We live by the Qur’an.” We want 10 million readings of the Qur’an this month. Why? To strengthen ourselves and so we can come on the Day of Judgment carrying this number and saying, “O Allah, we have delivered in Ramadan 2009 ten million readings of Qur’an.”
Lady Aisha used to read Qur’an in Ramadan from dawn till nighttime. When she was asked why? She explained that the month of Ramadan was intended for reading the Qur’an.
The third point in this episode is very delicate and transparent. It brings up the idea of longing for Allah. We long for Allah at night and stand between His hands. Worship is divided into many ranks, one of which is longing for Allah. Prophet Musa (AS)[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’) (Moses) at this point in our story is longing for Allah. Are you longing for Him? How many times have you cried out of fear and love for Allah, longing for night prayers, for ’umrah[5]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn5/’), etc.?
Allah (SWT)[6]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn6/’) promised to meet Musa (AS). The last time He met him was on Mount Tur (Mount Sinai) before the Pharaoh was drowned. Now, and after 15 years, and after the Pharaoh’s death, Allah’s promise to Musa is realized. Allah says what can be translated as, “And We appointed with Mûsa (Moses) thirty nights and We perfected them with ten, so the fixed time of his Lord was perfect for forty nights” (TMQ, 7:142).
Allah told him that if he fasted, prayed and worshipped Him sincerely for 30 nights, He will give him the Torah as a light and guidance. He will bring him very close to Him. Musa fasted for 30 days and Allah ordered him to add 10 more days so that he will be strengthened with belief when meeting Allah.
Musa had appointed Harun (AS) (Aaron) as a leader of the people of Israel during his absence. The people of Israel were not granted this 30-day fast. Allah granted this fast during Ramadan to Muhammad (SAWS) and his ummah (nation) to be a way for bringing them closer to Him. We are so dear to Allah. What Musa was given alone, was granted for all of us, for we have the thirty days of fasting followed by 6 days in the month of Shawwal.
Allah says what can be translated as, “‘And what has made you hasten from your people, O Mûsa?’ He (M*ûsa) said, ‘They are those ones upon my track; and I have hastened on to You, Lord, that You may be satisfied (with me)’” (TMQ, 20:83, 84). Here we see him longing to meet Allah, so what happened?
Musa returned to the same place at the exact time to meet Allah (SWT) and receive the gift of the Torah. By the way, the word Torah is derived from the name of the Mount Tur. Musa came to Mount Tur again to affirm that Allah was true to His promise and that Allah never breaks His promise.
He asked Allah many questions. These were some of the questions he asked.
Musa asked Allah who was the most noble man in jannah (paradise). Allah’s answer was that it was the last man to come out of hellfire and enter jannah but had thought that it was full and that there was no place for him there. Imagine how many sins this man must have committed to be the last man to leave hellfire! Allah then asks this man if he wished to have the same property as the greatest of kings. The man thinks that Allah is mocking him, but Allah tells him that he would have as much as the greatest king and ten folds more until he is satisfied. Musa was astonished, “Was that the lowest ranking man in jannah?! What about the men with the highest rank?” Allah said that they were those whom Allah secured their happiness with His own hands; no one can imagine what Allah granted them.
His second question was, “How does slumber not overtake Allah nor sleep”? Allah asked Musa in turn to hold two bottles in his hand, but after some time Musa fell asleep and the bottles fell and broke. Allah then told Musa that if He slept the heavens will collapse on earth. At this point, Musa felt embarrassed and acknowledging Allah’s many blessings he asked Him how he could thank Him. He felt that his thanking Allah is in itself a blessing that he should thank Allah for. Allah’s answer was that if he has come to this realization then he has thanked Him.
Musa asked Allah to teach him a supplication, and Allah taught him, “There is no god to be worshipped but Allah.” If the seven heavens and seven earths were put in one scale and this sentence was put in the other, then its scale will outweigh them.
Then Musa asked Allah (SWT ) about two men from the people of Israeli who both supplicated Allah; one good and the other bad. Allah said to the good man, “Here I come to you,” once and to the bad man, “Here I come to you” thrice. But, why? Because the good man was depending on his good deeds while the bad man was depending on Allah’s mercy.
Then Allah told Musa that some of His bondsmen whom He brings into His jannah and lets them choose from its palaces, fruits and rivers are those who bring delight into believers’ homes.
Allah asked Musa if he had done anything for the sake of Allah and Musa answered that he had fasted, prayed and performed charitable deeds. Yet Allah said that prayers will be a light for him, charitable deeds will be a proof for him, all these deeds will be of benefit for him, but has he ever loved anyone for the sake of Allah? Here Musa knew that the highest rank was to love people for the sake of Allah.
Allah asked Musa if he knew why He had chosen him to deliver His message. It was because Allah had searched the inside and outside of hearts in Musa’s time but did not find a heart more humble than his, hence He wanted to raise his rank above all people.
Musa asked Allah about an ummah mentioned in the tablets whose one good deed is equal to one hasana[7]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn7/’), if it is not done and equal to ten hasana, if done and wished it to be his ummah (that of the people of Israel). But Allah said no, that this was the ummah of Prophet Muhammad. Do you see how dear we are to Allah?!
Musa also read in the tablets about an ummah that was the most charitable nation brought to mankind, they command beneficence and forbid malfeasance, and wished them to be his, but again Allah said no they were the ummah of Prophet Muhammad.
After all these questions and wishes, Musa wished to see Allah. Allah said no but that if Musa looked to the mountain; if it settled down then he would see Allah.
When Allah appeared to the mountain, it collapsed and Musa fainted. But why did He pick the mountain? Because it is strong and huge. So what about mankind?! Do you remember when you saw Ka’ba for the first time? I was fortunate enough to pray inside it once. I know many supplications but I forgot them all when I was inside it because I was in awe of the place.
Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) told us that on the Day of Judgment, people will faint. The first one to be revived will be the Prophet (SAWS) who will find Musa clinging to the throne. However, Muhammad (SAWS) will not know if Musa was revived before him or if he was rewarded for his fainting during his meeting with Allah. Do you see our Prophet’s humbleness when he mentions Musa in this event?

Re: story of sayduna Musa, many lessons to learn!!!

Episode 16

In the name of Allah[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’), the All-Merciful, the Ever-Merciful. All Prayers and Blessings of Allah be upon our master, the most noble prophet, Muhammed (SAWS)[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’).
Welcome to episode 16 of our program Parables of the Qur’an – Part II.

There is just a reminder that I would like to start the episode with: “We Will Live By The Qur’an”, our slogan. We read Qur’an not only to get spiritual aid and good deeds, but also to extract the morals and values mentioned in it, the Qur’an is in fact the manual of human being reparation, with its values it repair their souls, their morals, their attitudes and values and their dispositions in life. Daily on our program we deal with one of those values. Those values are the main message of Qur’an.

Another important reminder before starting the episode: One of The Most Beautiful Names of Allah is The Almighty. This name is very related to today’s episode that deals with humility. The Almighty is the one refusing and rejecting any humiliation to His human creatures. A human being should never be humiliated for another one, for money, for wrong doing or for any other reason whatsoever. A person should always be proud and in control of his life since his Lord is the Almighty. Humiliation has a great effect on peoples, it affects them badly, it deforms and distorts them and this will appear all along this episode.

Beni-Israel left Egypt with Musa (Moses) (AS)[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’), they witnessed the miracle of the sea yet the humiliation they lived in Egypt deformed them completely and distorted their souls. We will learn in this episode how does humility darken the soul, distort, disfigure and deform it from deep within. Today’s episode tells you not to humiliate yourself for anyone or any reason lest you deform your soul, always remember Allah’s name The-Almighty. This is the value of this episode.

Our story today is noted in surat[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’) Ta-ha. As we mentioned in yesterday’s episode, Musa (AS) went to meet his Lord. He informed Bani-Israel that he (AS) will be away for only 30 days but Allah ordered him (AS) to complete it 40 days. That was 10 additional days that Bani-Israel knew nothing about it. Before leaving, Musa (AS) asked Harun (Aaron) (AS) to be his successor among his people since he (AS) knew that they cannot be left alone lest they make problems or disasters. He (AS) also asked him to act righteously, i.e. do not let any dispute or conflict happen between them, and finally to not ever follow the way of the corruptors. So Musa (AS) knew that there were corruptors among them but as Prophet Muhammed (SAWS) did with the hypocrites in Madina and as any wise leader will do when dealing with internal problems or conflicts, Musa (AS) choose to deal with those conflicts with patience until they die and pass with time.

Back to our story, Musa (AS) left to his meeting and as above mentioned, this meeting was supposed to be 30 days but Allah extended it to 40. Allah (SWT)[5]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn5/’) says what can be translated as: “And We appointed with Mûsa (Moses) thirty nights and We perfected them with ten, so the fixed time of his Lord was perfect for forty nights.” (TMQ[6]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn6/’), 7:142). Those 10 additional days will have a great effect since the souls of Bani-Israel were not acquainted yet to the idea of faith, of believing. The humility they suffered in Egypt deformed their entire being; they lost their equilibrium, therefore, any new idea, any delay, any absence of Musa (AS) made them collapse and fall down, even with the presence of Harun (AS). Musa (AS) was their controller, their master and first leader and commander. Harun – loved by them – remained in their eyes the second man. They will only obey, follow the first leader. They will only listen to Musa (AS).

Back in Egypt they were deeply influenced by the Egyptians worshiping the calf Abis and they were still admiring them. Why? Humiliation. They used to consider Egyptians and pharaoh as better creatures and higher class then their own and they still do though they were now believers, applying monotheism.

When the 30 agreed upon days passed and Musa (AS) was late, they started to ask about him (AS), where is he? Why wasn’t he back? And a great temptation started to took place, that of As-Samiriyy (The Samaritan).

As-Samiriyy (The Samaritan) was not one of the Egyptians, nor from Bani-Israel. He was of the minorities present in Egypt when Pharaoh was in his glory time, powerful, building temples and humiliating Bani-Israel. At the time Musa (AS) appeared As-Samiriyy was 30 years old. He came from Iraq, from Samara city. He was a great sculpture with an amazing, extraordinary talent and lived in Egypt in the period where sculpture were very demanded for temples, palaces, etc. But he was one of those people who will never gain higher place in the country being from another nationality, being from a less important section of population.

Despite his great talent and potentials, he was doomed to remain in the lowest class to work but not to show his talent, not to be rewarded for it. From Pharaoh point of view, talent and hard work do not matter, what matter is the nationality, the social class, the good relations with high class, etc. Since he got nothing of that, he will remain as he was. As-Samiriyy felted oppressed and humiliated. And humiliation started to darken his soul. When Musa (AS) called, he followed him, not convinced by faith. The idea of faith or believing in Pharaoh does not matter to him. What matters is that no one took care or recognized his talent, and he will get his revenge. When Musa (AS) was late and Bani-Israel started questioning his absence, he seized the occasion. Instead of getting his revenge from Pharaoh who was unjust to him, he will get it from these people even though Pharaoh was unjust to them too. He addressed Bani-Israel and told them that Musa (AS) will not come back unless they get rid of the jewels they took with them from Egypt. Fact is, Bani-Israel women used to borrow jewels from Egyptians women whenever they had a feast or special occasion.

When Musa (AS) called for leaving Egypt, Bani-Israel had a feast and had borrowed jewels but there was no time to give it back now that they had to leave immediately. As-Samiriyy knew it and knew that Bani-Israel will not accept such burden now that they are believers. He used both their faith and humility. What is the use of money with a humiliated soul? He knew they will believe him, and so they did. See how much humility can darken a soul?

As-Samiriyy then went and collected those jewels and brought out a golden calf. Did he really want Bani-Israel to reject faith? That was not the point, the point is that they will admire his creation, his talent; they will bow in front of his sculpture. See how humiliation can create a destructive power? He sculpted a calf because he knew the admiration Bani-Israel had for the Calf of Egyptians, he made it all golden. He positioned it in a way that when air goes through it, it resonate a sound similar to the calf lowing voice.

He waited until they were gathered around it, and that this voice was produced and he told them that this is your god and the god of Musa. Musa did only forget the place, if you want him to come back to you and to his god, you have to worship it. And they did.
Humility made them believe such non-sense. From one side, the idea of faith was not settled in their souls yet, from the other, they needed a leader and commander as they always used to, and if Musa (AS) is not present, then they will leave the command to As-Samiriyy.

How Harun (AS) will react? He started to advise them, to ask them to stop such worship but they refused to listen to him. He (AS) was not their leader as above mentioned. Now he has to choose between confronting them or wait to the return of Musa (AS). As any wise leader will do, he compared between the two alternatives: a confrontation between both parties – believers with him and rejecters with As-Samiriyy – will be a civil war. When Musa (AS) comes back, he might find all of them dead. To wait for him (AS) will save them specially that Musa (AS), as their leader, will end this whole matter with few words. And thus, Harun (AS) waited for Musa (AS) return.

Musa (AS) returned from his meeting with his Lord, with his Tablets. But a choking surprise waits for him (AS), Bani-Israel worshiped the calf. Now imagine how he (AS) will react. Imagine the scene: Musa (AS) going down the mountain, Bani-Israel worshiping the calf with As-Samiriyy, and Harun (AS) waiting for him. Let us observe how a leader should react in such situation, bearing in mind that any wrong decision can cause disaster, either a civil war where they will die, or they will continue worshiping the calf. He (AS) wants to bring them all back t faith, to take a severe action against As-Samiriyy and against them since this was their second time to reject faith and ask to worship a calf. He will use a gradual way to reach this severe reaction lest a temptation and conflict will take place. So he (AS) will go from understanding, to mercy, to severance and ends with firmness. He started with Bani-Israel, in a soft way and with tender words, he reminded them of the fair promise Allah made to them. He aked them why did act this way, and they blamed it on the As-Samiriyy, he is the one who tempted them and by humiliation they believed his words and acted upon it.

Now that Bani-Israel were back, he (AS) turned to his brother (AS) he used sever action against him since he know that his brother will never get angry from him, and with his severance with him he convoy a message to all others that he is able of taking sever position. So he (AS) asked Harun (AS) why did he not stop them from such wrongdoing?

He took him by his beard and shouted. But Harun (AS) reminded him with their brotherhood, of his order before leaving not to let any conflict or dispute take place between Bani-Israel. Musa (AS) was convinced and he asked Allah to forgive him and his brother. Finally Musa (AS) got to As-Samiriyy and asked him what the matter with him is. As-Samiriyy lied, he did not mention his oppressed talent, he just said that he saw Jibril (AS) (Gabriel) the day they passed the sea from Egypt and that he grasped a handful of dust from its track and put it inside the calf to conserve angel tracks until he (AS) comes back. Not going in details, Musa (AS) took his firm decisions. Firstly, As-Samiriyy will be expelled, secondly, his “god” will be burned and then crushed into poweder inside the see. As for the remaining punishement of Bani-Israel, we will follow it in our tomorrow episode if Allah’s will.

Re: story of sayduna Musa, many lessons to learn!!!

Episode 17
In the name of Allah, The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful. All Prayers and Blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet (SAWS)[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’). First I wish to remind you by our Ramadan campaign “We Will Live by Qur’an”. As we agreed, we want 10,000,000 Muslim complete reciting Qur’an by the end of Ramadan this year.
Now, let us go back to Musa (AS)(Moses). Musa (AS) now became sure that Israelites regret following As-Samiriyy (The Samaritan) and taking the calf as their god, however he (AS) decided to give them a good lesson for this deed. This time he (AS) decided to be strict with them, but first he talked to them gently saying what can be translated as," Surely your God is only Allah; there is no god except He (alone); He has embraced everything (in) His Knowledge." (TMQ[2]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn2/’), 20:98). Then he (AS) talked to them rigorously saying what can be translated as," “…O my people, surely you have done injustice to yourselves by taking the Calf to yourselves. So repent to your Initiator (and) so kill yourselves. (i.e., the unburdening of their sins; forgiveness) That (Literally: these “killings”) is most charitable for you in the Providence of your Initiator; so He relented towards you. Surely He, Ever He, is The Superbly Relenting, The Ever-Merciful" (TMQ, 2:54).

We can notice from the latest ayah[3]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn3/’) that Israelites are different from Muslims. If a Muslim wants to repent to Allah[4]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn4/’) (God), all he has to do is to ask Allah for His forgiveness, resolve not to be back to the same sin again and then be sure that Allah will forgive him. However, Israelites are materialistic people, they don’t believe in any unseen thing. That is why Musa (AS) wanted that their lesson be perceived by their senses. He (AS) asked them to kill themselves. Unexpectedly, each of them held a knife in his hand and was ready to kill himself. It was only then, that Musa (AS) told them that Allah (SWT) forgave them.

Musa (AS) will then take his people to the Aqsa mosque at al-Quds. But first let me tell you a story. In one of the Muslims’ battles with the Prophet (SAWS) against the disbelievers, one of the Muslims soldiers was killed. Muslims then thought he should be in jannah (paradise) as he was martyred, but the Prophet (SAWS) told them that this person is in hellfire as when he was badly wounded, he used his sward to kill himself. Our prophet (SAWS) wanted to teach us that we have to maintain our good deeds to our last breath.

Another one of the Prophet’s companions called Alqama was dying; yet, he could not pronounce shahadah[5]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn5/’) . As a result the Prophet (SAWS) went to Alqama’s mother to ask her if there was any thing that made her upset with Alqama. She told him that Alqama used to bring his wife and kids the good fruits and give her the bad ones. The Prophet (SAWS) told her that Alqama would enter hellfire for that deed. Thus, she forgave him at once so as not to let her son be in hell.

That is why the Prophet(SAWS) orderd us to ask Allah for a good end and to end our life with a good deed. The good end has to do with today’s episode. If one’s heart is full of hatred, envy, arrogance, selfishness, vanity or any similar illnesses, he should then fear bad ending, If not, he can repent to Allah (SWT) and his repentence will surely be accepted.

The Prophet (SAWS) teaches us whenever we look at the mirror, to ask Allah to beautify our morals as He (SWT) beautified our appearences.

Let us continue with Musa (AS). In his way to the holy land, he met a man who looked very pious while his heart was full of sickness. When you listen to this story, you should be examining your heart to know if you have sickness in it or you will have a good ending.

When Musa (AS) was rescued from Pharaoh, he went to Sinai where he met As- Samiriyy and then headed to al-Quds, but first he passed by Jordan where he stayed for a while in the valley beside Nibo mountain. This mountain is where Musa (AS) was buried and from where we can see the Aqsa mosque. The people who lived in the valley beside Nibo Mountain were known as Bani Kan’an. Bel’an Ibn Baoura’ was a man of Bani Kan’an who was known for his religiousness. His story was mentioned in only two ayahs in Qur’an to give a lesson in good and bad endings. He was not an Israelite. However, he was a scholar who new that Musa (AS) was a prophet. This man had an illness in his heart. Though he looked like a pious scholar, he was an egoistic person, full of arrogance and looking for fame. Nevertheless, his people, Bani Kan’an, did not pay him any attention.

Bani Kan’an were known for their good relationship with pharaoh. That was why they feared Musa (AS) and his people as they saw them coming to their valley. Finally, they decided to ask Bel’an for help. They tried to convince him to make a dua’a (supplication) against Musa (AS) and his people. Bel’an was sure that Musa (AS) was a messenger of Allah, consequently he refused. As they new he was looking for fame, they told him that they would raise his rank and give him the fame and the religious authority he was looking for if he consented to do what they want. At this moment he agreed at once. He started to make dua’a against Musa (AS) and Israelites but of course Allah (SWT) did not respond to him. Allah (TWT) says about Bel’an what can be translated as," And recite to them the tiding of him to whom We brought Our signs, yet he stripped himself out of them; (i.e., he abaudoned them) then Ash-Shytan (The all-vicious one, i.e., the Devil) followed up after him, (and) so he became of the misguided… "(TMQ, 7:175).

Bani Kan’an did not give him the rank they promised as his dua’a was not met. As a result, Bel’an became angry, but he was still looking for fame. He said," now that I lost my hereafter, I will not lose my life". He told his people that if dua’a did not work, scheme would certainly work. Consequently, he asked them to adorn their women, let them go down the valley to sell Israelites their goods and whenever any Israelite want to comit adultry with them, they should obey.

Bani Kan’an followed Bel’an’s advice and some of the Israelites were seduced by their women. That is why the Prophet (SAWS) said that Israelites were first tempted by women. Musa (AS) knew what happened; he (AS) made dua’a against Ben’an who stripped himself out of Allah’s sins. As a result, Allah (SWT) responded to Musa (AS) because Musa (AS) was pious and his heart was clear of illness. Allah (SWT) said what can be translated as, " And recite to them the tiding of him to whom We brought Our signs, yet he stripped himself out of them; (i.e., he abaudoned them) then Ash-Shytan (The all-vicious one, i.e., the Devil) followed up after him, (and) so he became of the misguided.. And if We had decided, We would indeed have raised him thereby, but he clung to the earth and closely followed his prejudice. So the likeness of him is like the likeness of a dog: in case you burden it, it lolls (its tongue out), or (in case) you leave it, it lolls (its tongue out). That is the likeness of the people who have cried lies to Our signs. So narrate (these) narratives that possibly they would meditate.." "(TMQ, 7:175-176).

Bel’an did not get what he wanted. Though Allah (TWT) could have made him die, however, He (SWT) let him live to grow old without getting what he wanted exactly like a dog that pants for life. Note how this great story was summarized in only two ayahs to show how great Qur’an is.

Our hearts are what lead us to good or bad endings. Ask Allah (SWT) to grant you the good ending like the Prophet (SAWS) used to do.

I want to wind up today’s episode with some stories. The first is when Belal (RA)[6]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn6/’) was dying his wife was yelling, “O what a catastrophe”. Belal asked her not to say so, because he was going to meet his beloved ones, Muhammad (SAWS) and his companions. See how great this end was!

The other story is for Mu’az Ibn Jabal. When he was dying he asked about the time then, when he knew it was the time before dawn, he asked Allah (SWT) to be in jannah in the morning. Then he cried, when he was asked why he was crying he said that he was not crying for losing his life, he rather cried for missing qiyam (voluntary night prayer) and reciting qur’an for that night.

Sheikh Keshk, (May Allah mercy him), died while he was prostrating in a prayer. Sheikh Ghazali (May Allah mercy him), died when he was defending Islam and he was buried in Madinah between Imam Malek’s and the Prophet’s son’s, Ibrahim, graves.

But let me tell you a different story. My friend was travelling be airplane, a smart man was sitting next to him. Suddenly, my friend noticed this man was dying. My friend tried to help this man pronounce shahadah but he was clinging to his bag full of money and contracts and he died without pronouncing shahadah.
If we want to have a good ending, we all have to discover and cure the illness of our hearts, if they have any and remember that Allah (TWT) says what can be translated as, “O you have believed, be pious to Allah with His true piety, and definitely do not die except as Muslims.” "(TMQ, 3:102).

Episode 18
In the name of Allah, praise be upon Him, and peace be upon Prophet Muhammad. Welcome, may Allah accept your fast and prayers, be pleased with you and us
May Allah make us free from hellfire, and make us from the people of paradise.

Do your best to finish reading Qur’an more than once, we seek to participate in the 10 million Qur’an recitations initiative as a part of the ‘We will live by the Qur’an’ campaign, document your progress on www. amrkhaled.net, post the campaign’s sticker everywhere to encourage people to read Qur’an. May Allah bless you and make us reach the night of determinations (al-Qadr). We will pray by this supplication whenever we come closer to the end of Ramadan.

Let us live with a new virtue in this episode which we will continue. Allah saved Prophet Musa (AS) and Israel people from pharaoh when they exited from Egypt, the Torah was descended, and the Samery story occurred, I’ve narrated the events successively, now he will go to the Holy Land. Do you miss al-Quds and the Aqsa mosque? Do you love them? This is the virtue of this episode.

The virtue of this episode is to know how many of you miss the Aqsa mosque. What does the Aqsa mosque mean to you? What is its value in your life? It is valuable for Allah and for Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Pay attention, it is the first destination towards which we pray (Qibla) and the third Haram of the tow, it is the Masrah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), it is the place where Prophet Muhammad ascended from to the heavens. There is a Surah has its name; Surat Al-Isra’ (TMQ, 17:1)

Every time we hear the Aqsa mosque mentioned, we hear the phrase “around which We have blessed.” Do you miss Umra and the house of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH); Madinah and the Prophet’s Mosque? So much, right? Do you miss the Aqsa mosque like this? Pay attention that the three places are mentioned together always. If I ask you, what are your favorite three cities? Is it one of your favorites?

Back to our story… Prophet Musa (AS) is now directed to go to the Aqsa mosque. We will present this episode from the nearest place to the Aqsa, and in the road that Prophet Musa (AS) walked on. He exited from Egypt, passed by Sina, arriving at Jordan. Yesterday we mentioned that he passed by Kan’an tribe. He went to the Nibu mount, it is the nearest point overlooking the Aqsa mosque, and it is 25 km from the Aqsa mosque. Jordanians know this place, especially, the inhabitants of Madaba city.

This is the same place that Prophet Musa (AS) was walking in, on Nibu mount, because this is the nearest and shortest road that transports to al-Quds and the Aqsa mosque. This is the strangest journey in my life. This road is above the mount where you can see al-Quds and the dome of the rock. There is an official map for his walking line, this place is actually considered a tourist site.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) told us that we ought to travel to the three mosques; the Sanctified Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s mosque and the Aqsa mosque. He told us that the prayer in the Sanctified Mosque in Makkah equals 100 thousands prayers, and in the Prophet’s mosque equals 1000 prayers and in the Aqsa mosque equals 500. When Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was asked about the first mosque that was built on earth, he answered that the Sanctified Mosque in Makkah, then the Aqsa mosque, and there are 40 years between them. Prophet Adam (AS) built both mosques.

The greatest meeting on the earth was held in the Aqsa mosque between all the prophets; Musa, Issa, Sulaiman, Dawud and Muhammad (PBUH). Al-mi’raj was from the Aqsa mosque. “All Extolment be (to Him), Who made His bondman to set forth by night from the Inviolable Mosque to the Further (Literally: Remotest) Mosque, around which We have blessed” (TMQ, 17:1).

All the cities were liberated in Omar Ibnul-Khatab’s time (RA), but he did not receive the key of any except the Aqsa mosque’s key. He walked also on this raod, and passed on Nibu mount. When Musa (AS) arrived at the Aqsa mosque in his torn clothes, all the Jews and Christians said that he is the man whom their holy books talked about and that he will take its keys. It is also written in their books that Muslims will also take its keys.

When Omar Ibnul-Khattab arrived to al-Quds, people told him to pray, but he refused to pray in al-Qeyama church, in order to preserve it as a church and not cause it to be converted into a mosque one day. Omar and his army stood on a high place to see the Aqsa mosque, and he told Bilal to call to prayer, and this day is reported to have made Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) extremely happy. Years later, Salah Ad-Dien walked the same grounds, and he said his famous word “How I can smile while the Aqsa mosque is prisoner.”

This is the map of Musa’s journey to al-Quds by the dead sea and Nibu mount which we are currently standing on. " O my people, enter the Holy Land (Literally: the hallowed land) which Allah has prescribed for you and do not turn back in your traces, (Literally: on your hind parts) (and) so you turn over as losers.”" (TMQ, 5:21).

When he arrived to the point where al-Quds is 10 km away, the people of Israel became afraid and hesitant, hence they were prevented by Allah, to ever enter it. Musa (AS) started to encourage the people of Israel, as in this verse and we are need it, “And as Mû*sa (Moses) said to his people, “O my people, remember the favor of Allah upon you, as He made among you Prophesiers, (i.e., prophets) and made you kings, and brought you what He had not brought anyone of the worlds” (TMQ, 5:20).

In order to understand this verse “which Allah has prescribed for you” you have to understand the Aqsa’s history.. Al-Quds does not belong to any group in particular, because every prophet sent by Allah is responsible for al-Quds during his time. The last prophet is Muhammad (PBUH), so he and his nation are responsible for al-Quds and the Aqsa mosque.

The importance of al-israa and al-mi’raj[1]](http://amrkhaled.net/‘#_ftn1/’) is to take the flag of the Aqsa. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) met all the prophets with Jibril (AS) and prayed with them in the yard of the Aqsa mosque as an Imam of all the Prophets. A man can not be led in prayer by visitors in his house, he should be Imam in his own house, therefore by leading all prophets in prayer, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is forever responsible for the Aqsa.

Understand Surat Al-Ma’idah , Prophet Musa’s parable, and why they did not enter. Musa (AS) asked Allah to be buried near al-Quds walls because he knew that he was not the one responsible for it or else he would not have asked, in fact Musa knew that Muhammad (PBUH) and his nation were the ones responsible for it. Can you imagine that Prophet Musa (AS) knew that you are responsible for al-Quds?.What will you say to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about the status of Quds now? What will you have to say to Prophet Musa (AS)? Indeed, al-Quds is called “The Holy Land” because it is blessed by Allah (SWT), and the most blessed people met in it (the Prophets).

There are two important points here; the first is that life is comprised of war and peace, jihad (struggle) and worship. Worship is two types; one is to charge the spirit and heart. The other is jihad. Allah (SWT) blessed us with two mosques, Makkah and the Aqsa mosque. Makkah is symbolized for worship and peace of heart, and the Aqsa mosque is for jihad (struggle) and reformation. The second important point is that the Aqsa mosque is the thermometer of affairs on earth. How? If you would like to know if the world is OK or not, see the Aqsa is with whom; with believers or with racists. There are several important characteristics which we must strive to reach; courage, entrusting one’s soul to Allah, fraternity and efficiency.

On the contrary, we find the opposite characteristics in those mentioned in the following verse, “O Mûsa, surely there are people in it (who are) giants, and surely we will never enter it until they go out of it. So, in case they go out of it, then surely we will be entering.” (TMQ; 5:22).
“Enter in upon them (by) the gate. So, when you enter it, then surely you will be overcoming them. And so put all your trust in Allah in case you are believers” (TMQ; 5:23). This is a very beautiful verse. They responded “They said, “O M
ûsa (Moses), surely we will never enter it at all so long as they are in it. So go forth, you and your Lord, and then you (two) fight (them). Surely we will be sitting here now!” (TMQ; 5:24). Notice the irresponsible and lazy attitude. Musa replied as we can see in the following verse, “He said, “Lord! Surely I possess (no authority) on anyone except myself and my brother. So distinguish between us (Literally: part between us and “between”) and the immoral people.” (TMQ; 5:25). We can’t say we love the Aqsa without working hard.

The last part of the verse says, “Said He, “Then surely it will be prohibited for them for forty years (while) they go astray in the earth. So do not feel sad about the immoral people.” (TMQ; 5:26). Some interpretations say that it means: it will be prohibited forever. Other opinions say that it will be prohibited for forty years.

Indeed, when one abandons the above mentioned characteristics, they end up going astray. The people of Israel went astray in mountains and cities for 40 years; some believe it takes that long (40 years) for atittudes and habits to change with the new generations.

The role of Musa (AS) today is to prepar youths who have the four characterestics. “Said He, “Then surely it will be prohibited for them for forty years (while) they go astray in the earth. So do not feel sad about the immoral people.” (TMQ; 5:26). Are we from the destined generation blessed with the righteous characteristics or do we have to wait for another generation?

Peace be upon prophet Muhammad and his Companions
