How do you do it?
Do you keep prints of the important ones?
Or do you rely on the internet to keep you memories safe?
Or your computer?
What kind of redundancies do you use.
Most of my pictures are on a portable hard drive. I know it’s stupid, because the hard drive could crash any day and I’d lose all those pictures. But I’m lazy.
On drive, sync with NAS. Important non-family on FB, Google+ and other online services. Personal/family pics on private picture portals and dropbox.
its a never ending battle to keep them organized. So all suggestions are welcome.
I try not to post my wife’s and sister’s pics on my facebook profile. I know about the settings thing but dont want to get into discussion with folks that are visiting someone and they would bring up pics on someone’s profile saying that they saw it but the person I blocked would then get offensive.
Dropbox…
direct upload from phone makes it worthwhile and then I can organize as I wish. I have one public folder and one family-shared folder so I can move the uploaded pics to these folders easily.
Me neither. My sister can post her pics on her own profile, no problem. But I prefer not to post them on mine, mainly because not everyone on my friend’s list knows my sister so they definitely don’t need to see her pictures.
All my data, including about 40 GB of pictures, are on my primary machine, backed up to an encrypted external drive as well as an encrypted .tib archive that is on one of my servers at work which gets backed up to tape once a quarter which is then retained for 7 years offsite with Iron Mountain. My data is pretty damn redundant and secure.
I still haven’t learned and store them on the computer and then lose them because computers break. I started using dropbox recently so I had some of my recent pictures stored there but not all and guess what my computer died on Saturday. So yea, I will be saving my pictures and documents in multiple places from now on.
