storing family pictures

I hope this is the right place to post this.
I have as do many people lots and lots of family pic on my camera memory card and also an external hard drive.
I am always worried I might loose them, damage the devices or cards etc. What is the best way to keep pics safe?
I used to also burn slideshows onto cds but my CD writer is not working anymore so can’t do that but that too was a worry what if my cds got damaged or scratched in some way.
SO how do you store your precious pics? what’s the best way? Place?

Re: storing family pictures

There is this service called dropbox but its free for a limited usage only. You can store files there. If you can afford to pay then you can get more storage.

Re: storing family pictures

  1. Make multiple CDs if one gets damaged you will have backup.
  2. Upload you photo to some photo sharing site , but space they give you is limited.
3 Buy a solid state external HD drive or flash drive to save your photos.

Re: storing family pictures

Some specific photo websites:
-Picasa
-PhotoBucket

Microsoft also provides tons of space on their servers with a service called SkyDrive. If you have a live/msn account you should be able to access it. Here’s a link:
https://skydrive.live.com/

You get 25 GB of space on the SkyDrive service

Re: storing family pictures

also, if you can afford, get a hard copy print of some of the most memorable pics. Some online services give you very cheap rates.

Re: storing family pictures

Oh I’ve done that, lost all my pictures.

Agreed with the guys above…save in multiple places and definitely save to an online photo sharing website. That way you can access it anywhere and anytime or share with family members.

Re: storing family pictures

There’s another service called Box.net which offers 5GB of space.

For HP Touchpad owners they have a special deal and offer 50GB.

PS: Sorry, the invite only works with private domains, gmail not supported.
