Re: Storing coriander and mint
wash it [to remove soil from the roots]. spread them evenly and thinly over kitchen towel. cut the roots out and let it dry OR put them in a glass upright [so the water drains then lay them over paper towel]…store in ziplock bags.
you may want to dry mint leaves complete. that has it’s own unique usage.
Re: Storing coriander and mint
Here’s what I do and it works great.
You buy a fresh bunch. Wash it well. Keep the bunch together. Pat dry. Then wrap in a paper towel and put the wrapped bunch into a ziploc or plastic and refrigerate.
Re: Storing coriander and mint
What i do is make them survive even for 2 weeks. Dont wash, just cut them as u cut and place in a newspaper or any such waste paper which you want to use. And then wrap in plastic bag, when u have to use get it out and wash. Beleive me it can stay for 2 weeks
Re: Storing coriander and mint
unfortunately in my part of the world, seeing some really fresh corriander and mint is luxury! So when ever I spot fresh looking corriander and mint, I buy the chunks in large quantity.
At home, I wash them, drain them well. then chop them into tiny bits .. wrap them in a plastic bag … place them in the freezer.
Works wonderfully.
Re: Storing coriander and mint
Yeah we don’t wash them either, just like AFayiz. Just put them in plastic ziplock bags or containers in the fridge and then take out as much as you need, wash and use! No need to freeze them.
Stays fresh for 2-3 weeks.
Re: Storing coriander and mint
Why not plant such herbs at your home/apartment? Corriander can be planted in small pots, and you can plant 1 set of seeds every day for 7 days. After that, you should have a cycle of sprouting corriander every day. Whatever you can use fresh, you do so. If you are unable to use all of it, just let it dry out and turn to seed, and use that as dry corriander. Not sure if this can be done with mint as well, because i think mint takes longer to germinate.
Re: Storing coriander and mint
I have mint growing in my back yard (karri pata too
), so I just open the back door and pick a few leaves when needed ![]()
For fresh corriander (or cilantro as it is called in my neck of the woods), when I bring it home, I wash it first to release any dirt that may be clinging to the stems, and then lay it out to dry completely, while patting with paper towels. I then wrap it in another dry paper towel, stick in in a ziploc bag as store in my produce drawer of the fridge…it usually stays fresh and lasts me 2 weeks
Re: Storing coriander and mint
MIL taught me to store coriander and mint in the bags that line cereal boxes…you know the waxy ones?
just put the whole bunch in there, roll the top of the bag and put it in the fridge. should be good for a couple of weeks.
oh…don’t wash first…just wash when you are using it.
increased moisture in storage will cause it to rot
Storing coriander and mint
Wash, Chop and then freeze it.
Re: Storing coriander and mint
Treat them like cut flowers: trim the root end and stick them in a glass with an inch or two of water in it, like flowers in a vase, and then put a plastic bag over the whole thing (makes a mini-greenhouse), and stick it in the fridge. You keep the leaves moist but not rotting in water, and the stems drink water just like cut flowers would. You do asparagus the same way.
