Re: stopping your period
lol, so theres really no way around it :). is there ways to know when you're ovulating? meaning, does your body give you signs (cramps, raging hormones, etc)??

wow, thats a lot of scary stuff :S. i've also heard lots of stories about infertility being associated with bcp and shots and patches and such. i'm getting married by the end of this year, iA...and wanted to know what the best options are for preventing pregnancy??
i don't want to do the patch or injections and may consider pills if they are of low enough dosage. we're planning on having kids after 1 or 2 years iA, so i don't want to do any damage to my system. what brands of bcp have you girls used and what are the pros/cons? how soon do you start taking them? what about other means of prevention you may have come across (besides abstinence and condoms)??
this may sound silly (and i'm just naive with all this stuff) but does anyone know if you're trying to get pregnant...do you just stop taking the pill? how exactly does that work??/quote]
They suggest/recommend that if you want to get pregnant, have a "natural" cycle first. Meaning, stop your last pack of the pill and then have one months natural cycle before you start trying.
This was what I did, I was on the pill 4 months, 3 months before wedding (to ensure I wasn't on my period around wedding time!) and one month after. I stopped taking the pill, had a period and got pregnant immediately MA, (unfortunately it wasn't to be).
I was on Dianette, but I don't know much about the other brands and stuff as I wasn't really on them long term/planning to be using them long term
HTH
Re: stopping your period
There are over-the-counter ovulation test kits you can buy now. They will tell you when you're about to ovulate. They're pretty effective and easy to use, comes with a whole explanation of the cycle, what hormones are released when, a chart for you to keep track of ovulation...
Re: stopping your period
Keeping track of ovulation is not the best method of birth control though. From what i know, the only non-hormonal way to birth control is condoms.
Re: stopping your period
Hey sara...most birth control meds do not stop the cycle, just the hormones. Like the Depo-Provera. You're supposed to still get normal cycles (rarely happens with it though - it commonly causes almost constant spotting and no real cycles). Big trouble with it though and there are many women who suffer the after-effect of infertility - can be reversed with injectible fertility meds but still. And those new meds that advertise "Only two cycles per year" are just scary. Like I said, Mother Nature gets pretty pissed when you interfere with her! I learned this the hard way!
The traditional "Pill" has been used for many decades now and is very useful esp to regulate abnormal cycles and can even help those who suffer from Polycystic ovaries. So it isnt nearly as scary as the newer meds.
Oh i meant personally..i wouldn't trust it.. not that "if i were u i wudn't trust it."
anyways, those seasonale type things.. they just don't sound right at all. i mean i get wanting to regulate ur period, but stopping it til its 3-4 times a year? why wud anyone wanna do that?
Re: stopping your period
**chanda, **you're playing roulette, hon! :) but at least you know what you're doing... i wouldn't recommend that method though. well, it wouldn't work for me simply cos i know im too undisciplined to keep track of these things, and frankly, when you're in the mood, who cares what time of fertility it is? lol :p
i've been on the pill for a while now... im on Yasmin and its worked MA wonderfully for me. its a combo of low dosage hormones so if i miss a couple of pills, i get my period more or less straight away... that keeps me on track, believe me! haha
taking the pill is nowhere near as complicated as it sounds though... i keep mine on the bedside, take it at night before going to sleep, and done! its very low-maintainence i find.
**
mama,** you are amazing for going through that! i'm so happy everything got sorted out for you and your hubs... i remember meeting someone who had
in-vitro and she told me it was so scarring emotionally and physically for both of them, that had she known that beforehand, they would have adopted straight away. they were trying for 2 years and spent about $15 g's on it too. in the end, they did have a baby boy but he had some complications during the pregnancy, and after birth. but i believe he's fine now which is great.
** nabz,** you should talk to your doc about the best solution for you and likely they'll put you on pills to try out what works best... the depo shot also gave me serious mood swings... i was an emotional wreck during that time.
as for how soon, i'd say at least 3-6 months before so you can deal with any side-effects, IF you have them, and also so your body gets used to the additional hormones. i mean, if you start it the night of your honeymoon or a week before, its not going to protect you. it has to be in your system for longer than two weeks, i believe, at least.
Re: stopping your period
Omg. all these posts are scaring the HELLL OUT OF ME. question to all who have taken the pills and have moderate knowledge abt the pills:
its instructed to take the pills right the next day after ur period's done for the cycle in order to not to get them/regulate them the next month. but wat if its taken just two weeks before the cycle is about to start??????? (the purpose behind taking them is to stop the period from coming at its 'normal' time cuz of ..... due to the weddding/marriage.
and pills in question are Alesse.
Please advice.
Re: stopping your period
This is going to sound so weird to those who know my history and my troubles.....
I am considering going back on the pill for a month or two to regulate my cycles to see if I can get pregnant when I come off them again.................
Like I did the first ever time that I got pregnant
Insha allah my plan will work!
