Stopping the sale of Pakistan Steel Mills in 2007 - in retrospect

Do you think, may be it was a wrong move by chief justice to stop its sale?

I guess the total loss that would’ve been booked in that sale would be still be less than what it has cost the exchequer in the year since.

I believe the free land available with steel mills worth 5 times more than the offered price at that moment. Aankh dekhi makhi kaisee khai ja sukti hey...

and the cumulative losses since 2008...i think they run close to 50billion......

I believe the move by CJ for this case was based on honesty. He gave direction to sell it on better price. It is failure of govt not to be able to do so.

Look at the launch of bahria town khi project. If you give this land to Malik riaz , he may return much higher than 50 Billion

They can look at the personal properties of the top management at Pakistan Steel and compare that to their salary. The excess should cover some of the losses sustained by Pakistan Steel.

It is not only the assets but also the liabilities that go to the buyer. They should at least post the audited accounts on their website.

^ very well said. Infact it need to be applied for all govt organizations as well as for army generals ( I cannot understand how army officials have such lavish life considering the official salary is much less )
