STP, the Taliban were not the allies of the US back in the Afghan-Soviet War; it was primarily the Mujahideen.
Also, Musharraf made up that remark to stir up the sales of his garbage book. The US official he quoted denied it, and we never heard a follow up from Mushy Man.
