^ wow, sounds exactly like what happened to me. a few years ago i was using my pc waaay too much for my undergrad thesis (not typing either, a lot of mouse movements for plotting results). i was in so much pain at my neck and shoulder and my hand was numb and i couldn't get a proper grip on anything. at least your gp recommended a x-ray, my gp brushed me off with an 'inflammation' and told me to take painkillers. i barely used my computer for the summer after my exams and it was ok for a while but as soon as i was back at uni for my masters and in front of the computer, the pain and numbness started again. after 3 years now, i'm just used to it :( i have to limit how much time i spend on the pc so it doesn't flare up. which is a bummer coz i used to play soo many computer games and now i can't play anything that requires too much use of the mouse, so no more first person shooters for me :(
