sticking to a job

6 years and counting

22 years as IT director with the same company.

I don't get as bored of job roles or organizations per say as I do of projects... hence I can't work in a Operations role overtime... with my consulting engagements, the longest I've had a stint with a single client was just over two years and it was an e-Business technology deployment project.

Right now I'm in academia, and I feel like I can continue a lifetime here as long as I get to teach different courses, do research with different people, different organizations, get to travel and hold visiting appointments, and also take sabbaticals to do consulting work every couple of years.

btw this thread belongs in C&A :)

Three to Four years is a good time with any company. If you think your job has become a no-brainer then it is time to change. Variety in work is important and skills need to be polished all the time. You should never settle in a comfort zone…money, job, companies…nothing stays…only your skills do.

^ Well said! :k:

OK Umair, I get the hint

I was doing my part time retail job (whilst studying at college/uni) for almost 5 years.

I’ve never held a full time job for longer than 7 months. I’m easily bored, and I like libraries too much so I can never hold down a proper job … I always dream up excuses to go back to uni. I think its about time I became a research fellow or something :ahaa:

Been with my current employers for almost 4 years now.. but then.. i m so used to the environment.. i got certain reputation here.. people know me well enuff.. they kno my style of work and everything.. n i've learnt so much from them.... i have no plans to switch my job so far...

though my first job lasted merely a month and the second one i guess a little more then 6 months.. :D
