Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

Steve Bucknor is officiating the 2nd test which also happens to be his 100th Test match as an ICC umpire. I would be accurate to say that I have seen him more on the TV screen during cricket matches than any other umpire. You’ll hear off Dickie Bird’s love for the game, Shep’s humbleness, Dar’s simplicity, Bowden’s dramatic signals, and Venkat’s laziness BUT there is one guy who does all that and still gives the right decision most of the time. It is none other than our MAAAAAN, the Jamiaca MAAAAAN… Steve Bucknor.

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

He is a very good umpire. Before this series started, Indians feared his presence might tilt some decisions in Pak's favor but I didn't see any such happening. He has done a great job so far. It wouldn't be wrong saying he is one of the very best ones out there!

He is now looking at umpiring in WC 2007, wish him all the best, hope his eyes and judgement stay stronger!

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

Yeah let's wait til he gives Inzi out LBW... and we will be after taking his chaDDee off.

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

:hehe: I didn’t mean to say he is accurate all the times.

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

yeah steve bucknor umpired brilliantly against kumbles fake appeals.

and congrats to him on 100th test ... thats been a long awaited deserved acheivement for him.

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

and their fear was 100% true :frowning:
i feel so bad after tendi getting out… i know bad umpiring is bad of game but I really wish that if pakistan wins then no 1 will say that becase they were given a favour or umpire made a poor decision in favour of us :frowning:

tendiii :flower1:

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

pp.. good or bad - umpire's word is final. look at the number of bad decisions we got in australia but thats life. im surprised such an experienced batsman like tendulkar is so emotional about it. he must have been pretty happy when he wasn't given out in mohali when he really was out.

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

bucknor, umpiring in his 100th test, has wrongly given the indian god OUT....

if india lose this series, i doubt if bucknor will escape alive from india....

P.S. have u seen how every report on cricinfo is talking about how sachin was given out wrong and no one said a word when in the last match inzi was given out wrongly in both innings????
stupid biased indians....

i think bucknor shud get even with them and give dravid, laxman and ganguly out by wrong decisions as well.... :p

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

Not to mention how tendulkar was not given out when he was clearly out in the first test.
I remember when we were complaining about the decisions given by umpires against pakistan everyone was saying how we make big deal of such things. And now one decision against India and it is such a big deal? Welcome to our world, and this is nothing compared to what we have gone through.

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

I bet his 'Die Hard Fan' Sachin is buying him a special gift to go around Bucknor's collars :D

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

Now this one is for the books:)

Bucknor gets a ‘happy birthday’ cake from Pak team

From Waheed Khan

KOLKATA: Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq found himself in an embarrassing position here at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday when a cake his team had ordered for West Indian umpire Steve Bucknor came with “Happy Birthday” written on it.

“We had ordered a cake for Bucknor to present him on his 100th Test appearance but the suppliers got the order mixed up and instead of congratulatory messages for his 100th match the cake had ‘happy birthday’ inscribed on it,” Pakistan manager Saleem Altaf said.

He said the team and Inzamam were particularly embarrassed with the mix-up but Bucknor took it in his stride and had the first bite of the cake himself before distributing it among everyone else. “Bucknor said it was the spirit behind the gesture that mattered and not the gift itself.”

Bucknor hails from Jamaica and was felicitated by the Cricket Association of Bengal and the Indian board on Wednesday something which he enjoyed immensely.

Meanwhile, Inzamam also got part of his wish true that he would have liked some supporters from Pakistan present at the Eden Gardens to back the team.

On Thursday, five Pakistanis from Karachi turned up at the stadium to watch the match and one of them Azeem Khan said that a batch of 150 was expected later in the day from Karachi. He said the group had obtained visas for the match directly from the Indian High Commission and had managed to get tickets for the match in advance through friends in Kolkata.

Azeem is staying at the house of his friend Muzumdar who came to Karachi last year for the one-dayer of the Indian team and was a guest of Azeem. Mazumdar said he is now repaying the hospitality extended to him by his Pakistani friend. Incidentally, Mazumdar works at the restaurant of Indian captain Sourav Ganguly in Kolkata.

But the Pakistanis were a bit surprised at the way the Eden Gardens crowd reacted to Pakistan’s batting on Thursday as hardly a few people clapped when a boundary was hit whereas the 40,000 strong crowd shouted itself hoarse whenever there was a wicket or an appeal or missed chance.

Thankfully, the Eden Gardens crowd was big hearted enough to at least clap and acknowledge when Younis Khan and Yousuf Youhana reached their half-centuries. But still compared to what one saw last year in Pakistan and during the first Test in Mohali, the crowd at the Eden Gardens is clearly very partisan in its support for the home team.

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

This guy makes me think that some times it ok to be racist.

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

If u really think umpiring decisions in Australia going pakistan's way would have made any difference to the result,u must be dreaming. It was also blown out of proportion by babloo just to save his own neck what with people like miandad waiting for any opportunity to jump at him.The decision against tendi was at such a critical juncture when the match hangs in the balance and when he was playing like himself after a long time,it could and i fear will have an impact on the outcome of this match.well u can't do anything about it now but bucknor has always had a hidden agenda against india, giving dravid out a number of times wrongly.

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

old man is a good umpire but is showing some signs of helucination(spell)
- tendu was not out - he gave
- dravid was out at khalil ball - not given

Re: Steve Bucknor - A Tribute

Tendulkar got slap-back from luck for earlier decision (1st inning?) of not leaving pitch when he knew he was out and umpire didn’t give him.

no bad thoughts! :nono:
