South Indian Hinduism is considered by many scholars as a “purer” form of Hinduism as was existing before much of North became a bigger cultural melting pot than the south. But I am not qualified enough to comment on that. **Many North Indians are Lord Rama and Lord Krishna devotees whereas many South Indians follow Bhagwan Vishnu or Bhagwan Shiva. Still a piligrimage to Kashi in the North is not considered as complete by many without a piligrimage to Rameshwaram in the South. Basically the 4 Piligrimage places (Char Dham) considered Holy by most Hindus are Badrinath to the North, Dwaraka to the west, Puri to the east and Rameshwaram to the South. Basically you can find important piligrimage places all over. **And, like Babloos mentioned, there is Tirupati and many temples built almost a millennia ago with wonderful architecture which are considered as heritage sites and still used in worship.
