steroids inhaler for asthma

My Ped told me that my twinkie A may be asthmatic an needs to be put on inhalant steroid therapy. I sort of not want to take that road but se said they tend to work better than giving her allergy meds. Does anyone have children who have taken inhalant steroids and can you share your exp. I am really confused because I hate meds and I rather take a holistic approach so any advice would be much appreciated.

steroids inhaler for asthma

I started but my husband had the sane concerns for our daughter who was 3 at the time.

We did homeopathic therapy, also avoiding anything that triggers asthma and allergies. She has grown out of it mA. Constant use of honey has helped too.

There are rare instances that she might need an inhaler but nothing on a regular basis.

My bro took nebulization since his early childhood. The side effects for him was hair loss in his early teens.

Re: steroids inhaler for asthma

my sil has a 3 yr old on it.. he has been on it since he was .. a yr old? serious allergies and asthma which he inherited from his dad. she tried homeopathic med and herbal.. nothing helped the kid.. he would choke.

BUT... she says its getting better as he grows older.. like he would need the inhaler several times a day when he started out.. but now that he is a 3 yr old.. its down to far less.. his dr is sure that he will grow out of needing it. even ihs allergies have gotten better. summer season could still be tough but managable.

so far sil hasnt noticed any side effects at all. ..

Re: steroids inhaler for asthma

my kid is on inhalers now and has been on and off for the past few months. he's also slightly asthmatic. its been going well so far in that it helps him immediately but ventolin speeds up his heart rate temporarily. its not uncomfortable for him, just a bit worrying for us. i'm hoping this time it cures the cough once and for all because this time its ventolin that he's on. its improved his cough immensly, AH, and the rattle in his chest is gone entirely.

My brother was like this when he was very young but now in his twenties he seems to have totally grown out of it.. It has literally been years since he's needed to use an inhaler..

Re: steroids inhaler for asthma

Do you have any pets at home? I had dogs at home when my son was born. Both my husband and I had dogs through our lives too. But we got 2 kittens when my son was around 3 yrs old. He never showed any symptoms of asthma till then. The first year after the cats came home, he had a running nose round the year…but somehow, we never thought that it could have been the cats. By the time my son was 5, he was a full fledged asthma patient with inhalers everyday. He was put on steroid inhalers for a while but his weight jumped up like anything and he had problems with climbing stairs and even a little running around. A lot of people including the doctors said that the cats were responsible…we had to give away our 3 yr old cats. Its been more than 18 months now and he hasn’t had a single episode of asthma. My doctor mentioned that rabbits, hamsters, caged birds, and also the very hairy breeds of dogs cause asthma.

Here in India, we get Asthalin Rotocaps for kids. They have a special inhaler called the Rotahaler. The dosage is quite mild but it clears the congested airways pretty quickly.

Desi method I used is boil tulsi leaves and laung for abt 10 mins, mix it with some honey and ensure that he drinks at least a glass everyday.
