We used to steralise bottles daily for my nephew but his dr told us to do weekly even though he was sick baby. My daughter had bottle till she was 3.
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
Never. They just get put in the dishwasher in a bottle rack.
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
I simply put feeders after every wash in boiling water atleast for 3-5 mins.
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
oh ok , so that means i can stop sterilizing bottles for my 14 month old ?
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
We did twice a week until he was like 1 1/2. But we don’t anymore. We still steamed the bottles while in Pakistan for the two weeks (daily.) LO is still on bottles because i am too afraid that he will stop drinking milk if i switch him to a cup (seen that happen with a lot of kiddos.) and two i just don’t see any harm in him continuing to drink out of bottles.
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
Yes, definitely stop.
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
Rabia, its ok to let them feed in bottles until they are ready to let go. I do keep trying to offer him water or juice in a glass , as well as in a sippy cup , coz I do want him to stop the bottle at some point in the near future. I am hoping one of these days he will get comfortable with his cup and glass and let go of the bottles ![]()
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles

Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
Its recommended here(UK) to sterilise bottles up till one year.
As for bottles, the recommended age to wean them off ideally is 6 months and also not to use sippy cups with valves for long rather use free flow cups with lids and open cups.
Thats just whats advised to parents but I do know practically speaking, kids take there time to wean off bottles.
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
^6months!!!..thats just crazy!!!..but i know out doc. was pretty upset when at his one year check up we told her LO was still on bottles. Now that he is 2 1/2, i just don’t mention it to the doc. I just don’t see the harm in bottle feeding???
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
Bottle feeding for a long time can actually harm their teeth hence the advise from the doctors not to use bottles for a prolonged period of time.
Problem is that kids take their time .. mine wont get any bit of juice or water in him from a sippy cup , he rather turn it upside down and watch the water flow out ![]()
.
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
Good to know. Oh and mine skipped the sippy cup all together and drinks water and juice out a cup. I used these at home instead of sippy cups: Amazon.com: Sip - a - cup Cup with Built-in Straw (Pink): Baby
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
I sterilized only for 1st the 3 months. I just put them in dishwasher.
CB, get the spill proof sippy cups. Something like Google Search
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
I honestly didn’t sterilize them much except for first three months and then may be once a week or so for 2 more months. I just let him built his immune system ( courtesy if my laziness )
We stopped bottle at 21 months.. Ideally I wanted him to switch over around 18 months but again I was lazy and didn’t bother . At 21 months, I took him shopping for sippy cup with a straw (aka dodho cup) and then we made a huge deal out if it as in clapping and giving him kisses n hugs if he finished milk in his cup, oh and he still expects it sedate. Anyway, first three days he cried for milk at night time in bottle but I told him he was a big boy and didn’t need bottle anymore.. I was prepared to put them in trash, with his help, if I had to but he just got over it and never looked back.
His milk intake definitely reduced though.. He now only drinks milk before bedtime but I make sure he has yogurt/ cheese etc to keep up with his dairy nj take.. If you are ready for less milk intake, then you can do it.
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
The doctor here in the US told me to put the bottles in the dishwasher as the high heat sterilizes them.
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
with my daughter, as she formula fed from quite early on, we sterlised her bottles quite religiously (as you do with a first born). We used a combination of the steriliser as well as the dishwasher :k:
with my son, he started fresh milk from around 13 months, prior to that he was breastfed, we are on and off with the sterilising… if the bottle has been left a day-2 without washing (and yes it happens ok! its not cus we’re lazy), then we give it a good wash in the sink and then put it in the sterliser… but usually if we wash the bottle straight away or plonk it back in the fridge.. its good to go. Plus, we’ve become quite lax with the second… come on, the child will eat sand if he gets the chance
Re: Sterilization of feeding bottles
i dunno… my daughter drank out of a bottle till 4.5. She has no issues with her teeth. I have a feeling my son is going to be the same. But he eats a lot more junk than she ever did. So, who knows
