Re: Stephen R. Covey - How much will u pay?

With due respect, if I need an advice on my marriage, I would rather go to a person who is living an ideal (or close to one) married life, and not to a freind whose wife is unhappy with him

The point is, just because someone loves me does not mean that the person is qualified enough to coach me in life.

I still need my doctor or financial planner or lawyer for the workable solution of my problems

Re: Stephen R. Covey - How much will u pay?

on the contrary , when u go to a doctor or lawyer or accountant , ur paying them to SOLVE a problem and they deliver...

whereas in these cases ur paying them to tell u that there IS a problem ....but what the heck we already knew THAT !!!!....whats the solution ? "they" advise u to look "within" for the solution ! and u paid them 45,000 for that !

P.S Tariq Chachu ...pay me half that and i promise to solve all ur problems :D

Re: Stephen R. Covey - How much will u pay?

TLK… Leadership seminars and Motivational seminars are two different things… perhaps within the same genre of sham :hehe: some speakers offer one or the other… some offer them both.

Also, both these are quite different from “leadership development” workshops and programs… which IMO have more merit to them by virtue of their methods.

Please don’t compare motivational speakers who claim to know-it-all to professionals who’ve received proper training towards their subject matter. I’d much rather have somebody go to a shrink to resolve their issues than attend a seminar.

“program” is the keyword… a long-term behavior modification scheme customized according to each individual’s needs… not some standardized universal solution.

Your second point is key… getting employees to attend seminars is not going to go far.

Re: Stephen R. Covey - How much will u pay?

I wouldn't agree with you 100% either. When one wants to change its not just a matter of turning on/off a switch inside of us and the change occurs. We need external stimuli to trigger emotions/desires to start up the change. This eventually results in small accomplishments of fractional goals which add up so that confidence builds up, which in turn creates more success in life.

A used to be in sales a while back and started listening to Tony Robins and my sales went up. Another thing that boosted my confidence and morale was this book called Think and Grow Rich, by Napolean Hill. There were some major accomplishments that I was able to achieve after these.

But as someone pointed out, change will only occur if the individual wants it to occur :)

Re: Stephen R. Covey - How much will u pay?

again, the point being that a motivational speaker has no idea about your specific situation and will offer general advice whereas a doctor or a qualified coach will take your specific circumstances into consideration when offering advice. The reason I suggested friends and family etc. is along the same lines... those who we confide in and value opinions of are far more effective in helping us resolve issues than those with a cookie cutter approach to life.

Re: Stephen R. Covey - How much will u pay?

That's the preface to my whole argument... this industry is based on mass producing solutions for anyone and everyone... while it is only individuals who want to change who will benefit from the triggers. Furthermore, I personally think that more than stimuli, people need some sort of prolonged guidance to help them achieve their long term goals. A true coach doesn't offer a one-off piece of advice but sees his/her mentees through to their success.

Re: Stephen R. Covey - How much will u pay?

I've attended such seminars and I do see a value that they could potentialy add in one'e life. But as Hin very wisely said (well that is a rare occasion by itself :D) that change will occur if one has a will to change

and Umar, again as I saidm these seminars provide a thought process, not a direct soution to one's problem.

A lunch with Warren Buffet was auctioned for quarter of a million dollar, few years ago. DO you think that person who won the bid got a bigger value out of that lunch with mr. Buffet

Re: Stephen R. Covey - How much will u pay?

Yea u r right.. i thinkk .. these so called self help books.. 1; there are a bit too many of these out now a days and 2; most of them are just written for money making purposes..

so in the case here... they could be like those over the counter medicines that are made for the masses and many do get better from them. .. when the disease is not too specific.. or the individual is not totally mentally sick but just needs a little push.. like in Tofi baba's case..

Re: Stephen R. Covey - How much will u pay?

i mean whats there to understand each individual separately.. we are all like VCRs .. we play .. we stop .. sometimes rewind.. few times fast forward...

Re: Stephen R. Covey - How much will u pay?

Good one. Here's another saying I read a while back (not verbatim), "We, as individuals, are so different from each other that we are identical".
