Re: step mother

I don't know, my Mom often used it even when she talked pahari zabaan.

Re: step mother

pahari zuban what is this????

Re: step mother

Well, we use it often within our own family and with some Pakistani friends. While growing up, my brothers and I weren't allowed to speak it, my Mom wanted us to learn clean neat Urdu. but it's so much fun to speak Pahari Zaban:

it's like : 'tawara kai haal aa? Tou theek ai na?;
(how are you? you're fine, na?)

We call it pahari zaban. I think it's speaking flat, maybe that's why my mother didn't like us to speak it. :-D

Re: step mother

I used to, and still do, call mine 'aunty'. Seemed appropriate back them and it kind of stuck.

Re: step mother

Paharee zabaan,

The punjabi spoken in islamabad/pindi, azad kashmir and jelum...in the "Pahar" hills

Re: step mother

oh, I kept thinking pahari was like talking flat, because it was a bit disliked for us kids to speak it. We were only encouraged to speak Urdu at the time. so it's actually a "normal" dialect or something, and not flat talking.

I find punjabi quite different from pahari actually.

Re: step mother
