Steel Tawa

Anyone here ever used a steel tawa? is it any good and worth having one?

Is it any better than a non stick tawa?

I have the option of keeping a steel tawa , my husband got from pakistan. But I am confused coz people are telling me , despite greasing it , things will stick on it. Please advise me on this .

Re: Steel Tawa

i have 2 steel tawas from pakistan...urgh they don't work on electric stove.

Re: Steel Tawa

We still use an old style steel tawa as my mum thinks roti shrinks on non stick. We don't grease it.

We use non stick crepe pan for parathas.

Re: Steel Tawa

Is it possible to make paratha's on the steel tawa ? I have already got a non stick tawa, but its pretty old. Currently I have the option to keep one of the two tawa's that husband got from pakland. A steel one and a non stick one. Which one should i best keep?

Re: Steel Tawa

So I had no option but to try the steel tawa out and ended up hating it. Made just two roti's on it and a baby paratha and it was the hardest job to clean the grease on it .. I think I am going to give it away.

Re: Steel Tawa

I bought a light weight steel Tawa from pk

Re: Steel Tawa

It's great for roti, paratha and even omelette
The only issue is cleaning it but I use astonish and comes out sparkling

Re: Steel Tawa

I wouldn't use it for paratha, use It for roti. If you really isn't like it then give it away n use what u r used to using.

I find the opposite true... steel tawa works awesome for paratha and not so great for roti...i really have to be quick and watch it for the roti otherwise it will burn and stick. Paratha is easy-peezy cos idk abt everyone else... but i always use about a half teaspoon's amount of oil on the tawa, spread it around and let it get hot then add my paratha. Then i basically cook the paratha in that oil. It works perfectly.

Re: Steel Tawa

I don’t know - I can never make my roti right on the steel tawa (I have an electric cooking range) So I have to use the crepe pans for rotis/parathas.

I use the steel one to give ‘dum’ to my biryani pot. That’s it I think its used for :hehe:

Steel Tawa

Roti is never good on an electric cooker be it steel or non stick Tawa
I do it old style and heat both sides of the Roti on Tawa and then take the roti off the Tawa and cook it over the flame

^ yeah, same! I find it cooks better and doesn't burm that way.

Re: Steel Tawa

yeah tawa's dont fare very well on electric stoves ..

I also found that I was using more oil on Steel tawa as compared to the non stick one I have .. Also a reason why I dont want the steel tawa.
